Becoming the Cold Little Bird's White Moonlight - Chapter 5
“…Woman, you’re playing with fire.”
The irate little bird woke at my shouting, as foul-tempered as ever.
No… I shouldn’t call him a little bird anymore.
My gaze slid downward. I hastily jerked it away from the part that could not be described.
But there were far too many parts that could not be described!
His face was flushed scarlet, and a faint sheen of sweat dampened his pale skin.
An exquisite body sprawled across the bed, dark hair scattered in disarray, a living picture of seduction… None of those phrases came close to capturing the scene.
It looked as though I had just done this and that to him!
How did taking human form manage to make him look like he had just finished going into heat?
This innocent college student, who had been single for over twenty years, could not handle it at all!
“Aaaaaah! Get up right now, you wretched bird!”
I yanked at his arm and shrieked like a madwoman.
“You lunatic.”
“Tell me. What do you want now?”
“Are you really so obsessed with my body that you won’t even let me sleep in peace?”
Ling Xiao lay on his stomach and gave me a sleepy glance, then helplessly pushed himself upright.
With the movement, his silky black hair spilled down and covered half his body.
It still did not stop me from seeing something I shouldn’t have.
“Aaaaaah! Lie back down this instant, you wretched bird!”
I covered my eyes and screamed like a maniac.
“Are you trying to torment me to death?” Ling Xiao ground out.
“Y-you need to put some clothes on.”
I could barely get the words out.
“Where would I get clothes?”
He sounded utterly justified, even rather proud.
In a flurry, I pulled out the pile of clothes I had prepared and threw them at him.
“Tch.”
“Ugly.”
Ling Xiao picked one up and held it against his upper body.
“Too small.”
Then he compared it to his lower body.
“Even smaller.”
At last, he slipped the tiny outfit over one hand and mocked,
“Woman, is this supposed to be a glove?”
Aaaaaah! I was going to kill the System!
Why hadn’t it told me that such a tiny bird would turn into such a big man?!
Early the next morning, I stalked into the finest clothing shop in the city with enormous dark circles under my eyes and resentment radiating from every pore. I bought up a pile of ugly men’s clothes no one else wanted.
Originally, I had meant to buy Ling Xiao the finest ready-made clothes. But then I remembered his sarcastic face last night.
I couldn’t let it go!
I hadn’t made it more than a few steps from the shop before I heard people spreading rumors about me right in front of my face.
“Hey, did you hear? The prime minister’s second daughter just bought a whole pile of men’s clothes. They must be for her secret lover.”
“How shameless.”
“You could tell she wasn’t a proper young lady from that parrot she keeps, but I never imagined she would be this improper.”
“So wanton and fickle. What respectable young master would ever want her?”
They all talked over one another.
None of them realized the woman standing behind them was the very person they were discussing.
“You have it wrong. Her secret lover isn’t some young master from a great family,” I cut in.
“He’s just a lowborn fool with nothing but a pretty face.”
“His one redeeming quality is his infatuation. He has admired the prime minister’s daughter for ages, exhausting every scheme to attract her attention and seduce her.”
“Why, just last night, he resorted to a ruse of self-injury so he could offer himself to her bed and become her kept man.”
“Oh, and he isn’t her only kept man.”
After spreading rumors about Ling Xiao and myself, I left in excellent mental health.
My good deed done without leaving a name behind, I abandoned a crowd of people gaping like stunned dogs.
Smile.
Go mad.
If I had to suffer, Ling Xiao could suffer with me.
For some reason, after the little bird took human form, I felt he was different from before.
I shared the thought with Tongtong.
“Of course. How could his bird form and human form be the same?”
The System dismissed my concern entirely.
Just then, I caught sight of Ling Xiao approaching from the corner of my eye.
His clothes were thin, and he always wore them loose and disheveled.
His collar gaped open just enough to reveal his elegant collarbones.
He wasn’t wearing his clothes properly again!
For some reason, teaching him to dress decently was harder than anything else.
Watching him stroll past me like this every day genuinely made me feel as if I visited a brothel daily and had bought the services of its finest courtesan!
I had told him more than once to dress properly.
Every time, he said he was “hot.”
I could straighten his clothes one moment, and he would tug them open again the next.
If I didn’t know him better, I might have suspected he really wanted to become my kept man and was going to all this trouble to seduce me every day.
“Ling Xiao, let me tell you a secret.”
“Little demons who don’t dress properly in the human realm get carried off by big demons.”
He looked at me as if I were an idiot.
…
At last, I understood what was different!
The little bird had gotten smarter.
I couldn’t fool him anymore.
I suddenly missed the simple, gullible, easily startled, irate yet adorable little bird he had been.
But that was all right.
When one plan failed, I always had another.
“Ling Xiao, are you dressed like this because you’re trying to seduce me?”
I walked over and hooked one finger beneath his chin.
“Hah.”
He gave a cold laugh.
“Oh, I understand. You’re shy. You’re too embarrassed to admit you want to seduce me.”
I nodded to show that I understood.
“Woman, is there something wrong with you?”
Utterly speechless, he straightened his clothes.
“No need to say anything. Those who know, know.”
“Man, you’re playing hard to get.”
I shoved him against the wall and teasingly hooked his collar open, exposing a seductive sweep of cool, pale skin.
