Brocade Begonia - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Before I could even finish my sentence, the old nanny’s ruler passed right through my head and struck Meng Jin’s hand.
“A young lady must have the manners of a young lady. The Marquis Mansion is a house of high nobility; how could you eat food offered in such a lowly manner? A single piece of dried meat has caused you to lose all the face of the Marquis Mansion. Vile and lowly-you deserve to be punished.”
The dried meat fell to the ground, covered in dust.
A servant boy and the carriage driver stepped on it, then stood with their hands on their hips beside the nanny, jeering at her.
“With this kind of behavior, she can’t even compare to Cui Zhu in the young lady’s courtyard. And she calls herself a lady?”
“If it weren’t for the need for a marriage alliance, who do you think would want to pick her up? The Marquis and the Madam went to see her five years ago, but they found her illiterate and unpresentable, so they didn’t take her back.”
“Putting on the airs of a young lady… she should take a look at where she came from. An orphan girl who grew up scrubbing manure buckets will never be able to wash off the stench of shit.”
Meng Jin clenched her sleeves, unable to lift her head in her overwhelming shame.
The three of them grew even more arrogant, their words a continuous stream of malice, full of belittlement and ridicule.
The constant crack of the ruler as the nanny ‘taught her the rules’ and the gloating laughter of the driver and servant were so loud. It was annoying.
I thought back to the days when I used to kill people.
“Have you ever seen a human swing?”
The teary-eyed Meng Jin froze.
“You’re going to see one today.”
I extended my long tongue and coiled it around the nanny, hoisting her up into the peach tree. A pincer-like branch caught her by the neck. I blew a breath of cold air, and she began to swing back and forth with a series of frantic rustles.
“Want to go faster?”
Meng Jin was stunned.
The nanny was being choked to death.
The driver and the servant boy screamed as they rushed over to help.
I let out a raspy, cackling laugh.
“Want to see a firewheel?”
The driver and the servant were swept up by the branches, spinning desperately.
They screamed hysterically as their bowels and bladders gave out. Amidst their cries for their parents, their eyes rolled back into their heads one by one.
The young girl went from being terrified to laughing.
After about fifteen minutes, the three unconscious people were lying neatly on the ground.
“They’ve all soiled themselves. None of them are any more dignified than the others.”
Meng Jin and I held the dried meat and ate heartily.
“What is your name? When I return to the capital, I’ll save up money to help perform a ritual for your soul’s release.”
My name was something she shouldn’t touch.
Besides, I couldn’t be released.
“I was struck by a Soul-Calming Pearl. Don’t waste your effort. Moreover…”
I didn’t say it, but moreover, my soul was on the verge of dissipating.
“Just tell them they were choked by a ghost. Looking like this, they’ll only dare to say they saw a ghost in broad daylight.”
I hung myself back onto the tree.
“Live well. After all, what I wanted most was to live.”
To live and send those bastards to hell.
She was stunned for a moment.
“You like the smell of meat. Next time I come to see you, I’ll bring you roasted chicken.”
When she left, she promised faithfully that she would bring roasted chicken the next time she came to see me. But once she left, she was gone for half a year.
