Chronicles of Heaven's Chosen - Chapter 55
After returning from Heavenly Learning Peak, Yuan Yao shut herself inside her bamboo house and cultivated in meditation.
She could faintly sense that she was close to breaking through to the middle stage of the Foundation Establishment Realm.
But she was still missing the final spark.
An idea occurred to her, and she took out one of the legacy keys.
She channeled her spiritual power into it.
In that instant, her consciousness was wrenched violently from her body.
When she opened her eyes again, she found herself inside a small room made entirely of white. It was empty in every direction, without a single piece of furniture or decoration.
As Yuan Yao looked around in alarm and confusion, a faint light flashed. The figure of a young man slowly appeared.
He looked to be in his twenties, with an ordinary face and an elegant bearing. Yet there was something insubstantial about him. He was clearly no more than a projection.
Yuan Yao’s heart tightened, and she instinctively retreated several steps. Only after studying his features did she realize that the young man closely resembled Senior Nie Lie.
Strangely, despite standing only a short distance away, he seemed unable to see her at all. He simply continued with what he was doing.
He stood quietly with his eyes half closed and raised his right hand. A spirit fruit appeared in his palm.
He stared at it with absolute concentration.
The seconds passed.
At the seventh second, the motionless spirit fruit suddenly gave a crisp crack and exploded without warning!
Almost simultaneously, another identical fruit appeared a meter away from the young man.
He shifted his gaze to the new fruit at once and concentrated on it.
Moments later, the fruit rose into the air as if controlled by an unseen hand.
The instant it reached the same height as Senior Nie Lie, it exploded again!
Then another identical fruit appeared three meters away.
Watching the demonstration, Yuan Yao finally understood.
Senior Nie Lie was manipulating the spirit fruits with mental power.
But all he did was demonstrate. He explained nothing.
Yuan Yao found herself at a loss.
Was she supposed to imitate him and stare fixedly at some random object?
Senior Nie Lie’s voice suddenly sounded beside her ear.
“Focus your will and induce resonance.”
Yuan Yao’s heart leaped. The projection of Senior Nie Lie vanished, and a spirit fruit abruptly appeared before her.
Focus her will?
She drew a deep breath and calmed herself as much as possible, then fixed her eyes on the fruit.
One second, two seconds, three…
At the thirteenth second, the spirit fruit finally reacted.
It trembled faintly.
Yuan Yao frowned and tried to make it explode.
For some reason, she could clearly feel resistance against her mental attack.
The resistance came from the spirit fruit itself.
It reminded her that forces always acted upon one another. Only if her mental power surpassed the resistance of the fruit could she suppress it and make the fruit explode.
She focused her will and stared unblinkingly.
Seven or eight minutes later—
Bang!
The spirit fruit exploded.
Before Yuan Yao could celebrate, the next one appeared.
Her interest immediately sharpened.
Gradually, the fruits began appearing farther and farther away.
Their number also increased one by one.
Yuan Yao felt her strength draining away, her mind growing increasingly exhausted.
She continued until she could endure no more, then withdrew her consciousness from the legacy space. The moment she returned, she collapsed onto the bed and fell into a deep sleep.
The next thing she knew, someone was knocking at the door.
Knock, knock!
“Yaoyao, are you in there? Don’t tell me you’ve fallen asleep again.”
It was Third Senior Brother Cang Li.
Yuan Yao opened her eyes blearily and discovered that night had fallen. She climbed out of bed, rubbed her eyes as she walked, and opened the door.
“Third Senior Brother.” She could not stop herself from yawning.
Cang Li produced a steaming bowl of noodles from his storage space. A delicious aroma filled the air.
“You haven’t eaten in days, have you? Here. I made these noodles myself.”
Yuan Yao woke up instantly and looked at him in delight.
“Third Senior Brother, you’re the best!”
“Go inside and eat.” When Yuan Yao reached for the bowl, Cang Li added, “I’ll carry it in.”
She followed him, quickly lit the candles, and sat down.
Taking the chopsticks he offered, she first asked, “Third Senior Brother, have you eaten?”
“No.” With a light sweep of Cang Li’s sleeve, an exquisite large bowl appeared before him. It held steaming noodles topped with a fragrant layer of meat and vegetables, along with several tiny bird eggs.
Yuan Yao’s eyes lit up. Without a word, she thrust her chopsticks toward the enticing meat.
Just before she succeeded, another agile pair of chopsticks appeared from nowhere and firmly blocked her path.
Their eyes met, and sparks seemed to fly.
The next instant, a war of chopsticks began!
A rapid series of crisp clacks filled the room.
Cang Li raised a brow. “Aren’t bird eggs your favorite? Why are you after my meat today?”
“I don’t like eggs anymore. I’m never eating them again.” Yuan Yao’s expression was solemn, though her gaze repeatedly drifted toward the dainty quail eggs.
Cang Li laughed. “You don’t like them anymore? I don’t believe you.”
The girl had loved bird eggs since childhood.
Large or small, every kind of bird egg had gone into her stomach.
He would never believe she had simply stopped liking them.
As their chopsticks continued dueling, something occurred to Yuan Yao. She gave Cang Li an enigmatic smile.
Cang Li gave her a puzzled look.
Then he saw her gaze lock onto the meat in his bowl.
The meat and vegetables rose into the air and flew straight into hers.
Surprise crossed Cang Li’s face. “When did you start training mental power?”
“Today.” Yuan Yao swiftly withdrew her chopsticks, stuffed a piece of meat into her mouth, and answered with a muffled laugh.
Cang Li’s expression became complicated. He looked down at the bird eggs in his bowl.
“You truly don’t want any?”
“No.”
“Then I’m going to eat them.”
“Go ahead.”
“I’m eating them now.”
“Eat.”
“I’m really going to do it.”
At his dawdling, Yuan Yao looked up. “I truly don’t want them.”
“Are you tired of them?” Cang Li still found it hard to believe.
“Something like that.” Yuan Yao returned to her noodles.
Cang Li also began to eat. “Yaoyao, you’ve changed a great deal over the past few days.”
“I think so too.” Yuan Yao grinned.
His movements paused at the sight of her playful smile. “Did nothing truly happen to you?”
【Target Cang Li’s Awakening Value has reached 20.】
Yuan Yao set down her chopsticks and shook her head.
Cang Li studied her for several seconds, then clutched his chest and threw himself wholeheartedly into a performance.
“Do you have any idea how much pressure your sudden diligence is putting on me, Cang Aotian?”
Yuan Yao caught his hand and looked at him with utter seriousness.
“Cang Aotian, cultivate hard with me! Our goal is to punch Youngest Senior Brother and kick Fourth Senior Brother!”
