The Nightmare Beast could feel that portion of its mental power on the verge of being completely devoured. An ominous bloody light flickered within its hollow eye sockets.

It would devour everyone’s soul power.

That would replenish the mental power it had lost.

Agony suddenly tore through the seas of consciousness of everyone trapped inside the prison rooms. Strand after strand of viscous, chilling mental power drilled into their minds, seeking to seize their soul power!

Screams rang out one after another.

Many clutched their heads and rolled across the floor in pain.

Just then, one prison room broke open. It was the room that held Zong Rao, Second Elder of the Xiaoyao Sect. She swiftly led three city residents out.

“Second Elder!” Xiao Lingwei and Ying Wuji both spotted her.

Zong Rao looked in their direction.

“Catch them.” She used spiritual power to send the three unconscious city residents toward the pair.

Then she rapidly gathered her mental power and attacked the prison rooms.

At the same time, she brought out her pill furnace and used mental power to refine an alchemical flame.

A vast blaze surged toward the prison rooms.

“Take it.” Zong Rao casually tossed him a pill bottle.

The disciple fumbled to catch it. When he lifted the stopper, the medicinal fragrance of a third-grade pill drifted out.

It was a Soul-Healing Pill!

Overwhelmed with gratitude, the disciple quickly poured out a pill and swallowed it.

The other four stared at the bottle in his hand with envy and jealousy.

Just then, the black fog fighting Elder Yan and the others rushed toward them.

The two masses of black fog merged into one.

It instantly expanded, radiating an even more crushing pressure.

It seemed determined to stop Zong Rao from sustaining the alchemical flame and charged at her in a frenzy, only for Ying Wuji to intercept it halfway!

Ying Wuji raised his elegant phoenix eyes, killing intent sharpening his gaze. He lifted his sword, gathered mental power along its blade, and swept it sideways!

The fog froze as though it had been sealed in place.

Ying Wuji lifted his eyes and gave Zhai Qingye an indifferent glance.

Zhai Qingye turned his head toward him.

Their gazes met, and Zhai Qingye gave a contemptuous scoff.

Zong Rao’s voice rang out. “You useless old geezers, get over here and lend me the strength of one arm!”

The faces of Elder Yan and the other elders turned green.

Too arrogant!

She had no one in her eyes!

No reverence for the old or care for the young whatsoever!

But now was not the time for infighting. They had to stand together!

Elder Yan and the others rushed to Zong Rao’s side and gathered their mental power, feeding the alchemical flame until it burned even more fiercely.

Under the blaze, the prison rooms gradually broke open.

More and more people were rescued.

The sealed black fog tore free of its restraints and launched a frenzied attack on everyone present.

Then black fog poured from the void above and gradually took the shape of a colossal beast. Its head resembled a gigantic skull, and bloody light filled its hollow eye sockets, chilling and horrifying.

It descended with the collapsing layers of sky, creating a sight of dreadful grandeur.

The stabbing pain in everyone’s sea of consciousness abruptly intensified.

Many collapsed, bleeding from all seven orifices. They clutched their heads and let out agonized moans.

Several city residents who had long since reached the limit of their strength instantly dissolved into wisps of smoke under the Nightmare Beast’s influence.

The beast absorbed them.

It formed a gigantic claw and slammed it down toward Zong Rao and the others.
