Cold Blade, Warm Wine - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
“That was quite a performance,” I said, gritting my teeth as I offered Situ Mo my praise. Now that the entire Assassin Hall had been wiped out, his identity as an assassin no longer existed.
“You weren’t so bad yourself. A very natural performance,” he replied with a smirk.
I had been scared out of my wits when he collapsed. When I rushed over to hold him, my panic had been genuine.
It wasn’t until the rascal reached out and brushed against my chest while lying in my arms that I realized the damn man already knew my identity and my plan.
My face burned at the memory of that little gesture.
Zhishen wanted to fulfill his father’s dying wish and go to guard the frontier.
As for me, I had a lazy personality, and Situ Mo was weary of killing. So, we returned to Green Mountain.
As soon as I entered the house, a force pulled at me from across the room. He grabbed my wrist and pinned me against the wall.
Situ Mo leaned in and kissed me.
He was overbearing and unreasonable, his kiss messy and persistent.
When his grip loosened slightly, I thought he was going to let me go, but he merely softened the pressure, shifting into a light, exploratory kiss.
It was as if he had discovered something fascinating and intended to study it thoroughly.
I nearly suffocated and tried to push him away before he finally allowed me to catch my breath.
Situ Mo said, “I think I’ve figured out what I want.”
“What?” I asked.
“I was suppressed and trained for so many years that my instincts and desires were long ago extinguished. But after meeting you, they’ve all awakened. I want you to be in my life.”
Situ Mo sighed. “I have always worked hard to avoid being controlled by others, yet I never expected I was destined to be held captive by you.”
I tried my best to suppress the upward curve of my lips. “Fine. Since your only hideout has been destroyed and you have nowhere else to go, I’ll look after you from now on.”
“That’s more like it. How did you know I was Situ Mo?”
“Your Situ Army is the Emperor’s trusted force. Every successor of the Situ line has the character for ‘Loyalty’ branded on their back, signifying they can only be loyal to the Emperor.”
“I see.”
“Do you remember your origins?” I asked.
“I don’t,” he replied. “I was only five when I was abducted, and they were constantly trying to erase my memories. I only have some scattered fragments that appear in my nightmares. In my dreams, I trained myself to assemble those fragments into small scenes, and then I investigated them one by one.”
I was speechless. He was someone who could even control his own dreams.
“Our families were friends for generations. If it weren’t for those misfortunes, we might have been betrothed since childhood-true childhood sweethearts,” Situ Mo said with a hint of regret.
I thought about it; that really was a possibility.
Situ Mo fastened a jade pendant to my waist. The quality was exquisite, and it was tied with a silk tassel.
“How to bind our affections? With fine jade and silk tassels! How to unite our hearts? With plain threads and double needles!” Situ Mo recited.
It was quite romantic.
However, I couldn’t help but think that this jade looked like it was worth a lot of silver.
“If you dare to pawn it, I will hunt you to the ends of the earth,” Situ Mo said ominously.
I immediately deflated.
“Why do you love silver so much?” Situ Mo grumbled. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you have more silver than you can ever spend.”
My eyes sparkled, and I nodded vigorously.
Situ Mo smiled slightly and pulled me into his arms.
“A fox dies with its head facing its home hill; a dying eel rushes toward the sea.
Even animals know to find a resting place for their souls.
As for me, I am willing to entrust my soul to you from this day forward.”
I replied, “Good!! I’ve caught it!!”
