Chapter 3

The third time the World’s Best Assassin came to kill me, he was covered in wounds and looking quite pathetic.

Remembering how decisively he had handed over the silver last time, I decided to go all in and fetched my medicine chest to treat him.

The Assassin looked at me with a gaze full of suspicion.

I suddenly recalled the first time he came, when he watched me accidentally poison myself into a stupor. Back then, he had looked at me like I was an absolute idiot.

He could doubt anything about me, but he really shouldn’t doubt my medical skills. Truly.

In the end, because the sword wound on his back was in a spot he couldn’t reach himself, and seeing me staring at him with eager hospitality, he raised an eyebrow and tossed his medicine to me.

He actually refused to use the medicine I had made. He really didn’t know quality when he saw it.

I took his medicine and gave it a sniff; the formula wasn’t particularly precious.

So, I poured over half the bottle onto his wound as if it cost nothing. Then, I wrapped cotton cloth around him dozens of times with great force-that’s the only way to ensure the bleeding stops properly.

The Assassin stared at the mountain of cloth piled on his chest and back. He looked like a girl trying to pass as a man, but failing because her bust was far too magnificent.

He glanced at me in silence, his expression saying, “As expected.”

Of course, I still received my reward.

I beamed with joy. This wasn’t an assassin; he was practically my lord benefactor.

The fourth time the World’s Best Assassin came to kill me, I was busy catching a rabbit.

That rabbit was incredibly crafty, hopping and leaping all over the place while I lunged after it like a fool.

The Assassin sat on a tree branch, watching the farce unfold.

Eventually, as if watching wasn’t enough, he spotted the plum wine I had just unearthed from beneath the tree. He leaped down, grabbed a jar, and went back up to drink.

For as long as I spent eating dust down below, he spent watching the show from above.

I felt like a total moron.

So, I looked up at him with a fawning smile. “Just drinking wine is a bit dull, don’t you think?”

The Assassin arched an eyebrow, signaling for me to continue.

“If you knock it down for me, I’ll make you spicy rabbit meat to go with your wine. That flavor… tsk…”

Before the words had even left my mouth, the Assassin flew out. When he returned, a pair of rabbits was skewered on his scabbard.

To think he had watched me struggle for an hour when he could do that in the blink of an eye. That bastard…

The Assassin ate with great satisfaction and left behind a sizeable ingot of silver. He was quite generous.

My previous resentment vanished instantly.

To ensure my guest would return often, I sycophantically included a gift.

I wanted him to experience the hospitality of my establishment-where you get to eat and take something home.

The Assassin looked at the rabbit-fur gloves in front of him, looking quite startled.

“I have always been the one sending things to people. No one has ever sent anything to me before.”

I was curious. “Then what do you usually send people?”

The Assassin replied, “I send them to see Yan Wang.”

I broke into a cold sweat. “It’s just a small trifle. No need to return the favor. Really, no need.”
