Damian - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
I thought back to our first chat.
Damian and I had been roasting each other.
I said, “I love my boss so much I’d die for him!”
Damian gave a soft scoff.
“Only unwanted trash gets handed out for free.”
“I’ve already prepared a billion as the bride price for my baby.”
“As long as she wants it, she’ll get the most loyal dog in the world!”
He really was impressive.
I was cowardly and poor.
I was still living in a shared apartment.
So I told Damian,
“If we’re talking about drugging him, I don’t even have a secret place to imprison him.”
“Oh, right. Back in my hometown, there’s still one pigsty that hasn’t collapsed. How about-”
Damian paused, then said with great loyalty,
“I’ll help you.”
“Enjoy yourself.”
Chapter 4
Heaven was on my side.
The company’s celebration banquet had been moved up by a full two months.
I was too much of a coward.
Normally, I didn’t even dare say more than a couple of sentences to Gu Zan.
Only at a banquet could I do it.
Everyone feared and admired him, and everyone would offer him a drink.
I could blend in among them.
“CEO Gu, this toast is to you. This project’s success was all thanks to you steering the ship.”
“CEO Gu, CEO Gu, CEO Gu…”
I stood in the corner, giving myself a pep talk.
Over and over, I repeated the lines I was going to say in a moment.
As someone who could spiral internally over anything,
just thinking of Gu Zan’s deep amber eyes, pressed beneath his sharp, straight brow bones like a dragon lying dormant in the abyss,
made me shrink back in fear.
Timid, socially anxious, insecure.
I really was a gloomy little rat.
“Ah-Zan, this toast is to you. Congratulations on the project’s overwhelming success.”
A woman’s voice rang out, melodious and pleasant.
I looked up.
It was Sheng Luan, the heiress of Sheng’an Department Store.
Elegant, alluring, with a figure so perfect it was almost unfair.
I lowered my head and stared at the tips of my shoes.
Be brave, Cheng Tutu.
If you can work at a Fortune 500 company, that proves you’re amazing.
I quickly poured the powder Damian had sent me into the wine.
Stirred it. Swirled it.
Then I got up and walked toward the center of the crowd.
It was as if all the lights in the room favored him.
A soft halo of light, sharp brows lowering over his eyes.
And yet he happened to have petal-like lips that curved upward at the corners, softening his aggression.
“CEO Gu.”
I held the glass of wine, standing only a breath away from him.
“What is it?”
He was too tall. When speaking to others, he always politely lowered himself, especially when accommodating someone like me, who wasn’t wearing heels.
His gaze reflected off the shimmering light in the wineglass in my hand.
Closer.
What a beautiful face.
His lips were damp with wine, glossy and soft, like rose petals bleeding red.
“CEO Gu, I want-”
I want you to drink this glass of wine, and then be eaten by me.
“What do you want to do?”
He lowered himself even more, leaning closer.
His magnetic, low voice carried an inexplicable coaxing note.
“I… I want to go home.”
“May I take leave?”
The smile at the corner of Gu Zan’s lips, gentle as honey, froze.
“Ah.”
“You want to go home?”
It was as if he had chewed my words over again in his mouth.
When Gu Zan was angry, he would smile instead.
So a lot of the time, I couldn’t tell what he was really feeling.
Still smiling, his gaze swept over the glass of wine in my hand.
“What a shame, Secretary Cheng. I’ll have to trouble you to take me home.”
He made as if to take the glass.
I had no idea where the courage came from.
I lifted my hand and beat him to it, draining it in one go.
“CEO Gu, I… I’ve had alcohol too. I’ll contact the chief secretary and have them arrange a driver for you, okay?”
It felt exactly like a mouse meeting a cat.
Gu Zan smiled again.
As if from anger.
“I didn’t drink, Secretary Cheng. When the banquet ends, I’ll take you home.”
“Can you accept that?”
As if my little scheme had been seen through, my voice automatically shut down, and I did my best to shrink my presence.
“Yes, CEO Gu.”
