Dimensional Store: Welcome to the Apocalypse Apartment - chapter 104
Before leaving, Gu Huaiwei left Xiao Ai a ticket. Then she bought some souvenirs from the Neon Nest and asked Xiao Ai to take them back to Li Niang and the others.
“You’re not going back?” Xiao Ai hugged the pile of gifts, finally snapping awake from the past few days of hollow pleasure. “Are you leaving like Changge did?”
“Yeah.” Gu Huaiwei nodded. “Thanks to you showing me around, I had a great time these past few days. This is goodbye forever. I hope everything goes smoothly for you from here on out.”
“There you go again with the polite lines…” When Xiao Ai had parted with Gu Changge, Gu Changge had also said a few comforting words.
“It’s not politeness. I mean it.”
Gu Huaiwei lifted her head and looked at the largest electronic screen inside the Neon Nest. It ran nonstop, twenty-four hours a day, broadcasting news from the other districts.
She saw the Tenth District’s district chief remove his Protective Suit mask, revealing Lu Hao’s face. Lu Ziyi stood beside Lu Hao, talking animatedly, going on about how the Tenth District’s district chief had always been her little brother.
That gun with only a single bullet had been snatched by Lu Ziyi.
Some people just had lives that were hard as nails-tough as weeds, growing back no matter how you cut them.
Gu Huaiwei seriously suspected that if Lu Hao’s build hadn’t been a better match for the previous Tenth District district chief, Lu Ziyi would most likely have killed the former district chief and taken the position herself.
Xiao Ai tried to keep Gu Huaiwei from leaving. She brought up Karl, and the people at the Oasis Hotel, but Gu Huaiwei’s determination to go was the same as her sister’s.
“Will we meet again?”
Gu Huaiwei shook her head. “No one can say what the future holds.”
Xiao Ai fell silent for a moment. “I’ll wait for you both to come back together.”
“Okay.” Gu Huaiwei knew the “you both” Xiao Ai meant-her and Sister Changge.
Gu Huaiwei had been lingering around the Neon Nest these past few days. Qian Duoduo did have some skills; she kept helping cover for Gu Huaiwei and the others, interfering so Professor Feng couldn’t find them.
Whenever Professor Feng couldn’t get his hands on a single clue, Qian Duoduo would toss out a scrap of information. Whenever Professor Feng thought he finally had hope, Qian Duoduo would snuff that hope out again.
Back and forth like that, Qian Duoduo realized Professor Feng couldn’t do without her. The benefits she gained were actually greater than what she’d gotten from focusing on being his lapdog.
When Professor Feng finally found Gu Huaiwei, the look Qian Duoduo gave her was practically cannibalistic.
If looks could kill, Qian Duoduo would have carved Gu Huaiwei into a thousand pieces.
Qian Duoduo tried to interrogate Gu Huaiwei with her eyes-why had she run so slowly, and why was she still in the Upper District?
If Professor Feng dragged Gu Huaiwei back again, Qian Duoduo wouldn’t be able to keep stringing him along with Gu Huaiwei’s whereabouts.
But Gu Huaiwei only told Qian Duoduo one thing: Xiao Youqi was dead.
Qian Duoduo’s expression went blank for a heartbeat, then returned to normal. “Dead is dead. You didn’t have to tell me specifically.”
Professor Feng, meanwhile, looked like he couldn’t stand being deceived by Gu Huaiwei. He slowly removed his gold-rimmed glasses. His eyes were full of disappointment. He pressed his fingers tightly to the bridge of his nose, his voice low and strained.
“Why are you leaving?”
“Well… I’ve got two legs. I like running around.”
“I offered you such good terms, just because I thought we were the same kind of person.
“We stand above everyone in this plane. We know the truth behind the world. We should have been the two closest souls-yet you’re leaving me!”
His voice was still relatively calm at first, but Gu Huaiwei stood there quietly, watching the countdown on her watch. That airy indifference infuriated him, making his words come faster and sharper.
“Do you even know? After your sister left, I was terribly lonely. No one could understand me. No one knows where I came from, and no one can comprehend what I say.”
“You’re an adult now. Adults need to learn how to be alone.”
Gu Huaiwei thought with a twinge of melancholy: if Lin She was reliable enough, then in three minutes, she and He Xueyi could break away from this plane.
There was still an Arena show tomorrow.
The girls in the Red Light District had told her to come back the next day to bring them business.
She hadn’t had her fill of fun yet.
Seeing Gu Huaiwei spacing out, Professor Feng suddenly yanked open the collar of his white lab coat. The veins on the back of his hand stood out clearly.
He nearly bellowed, “I just need someone by my side who can understand me-someone like me! How dare you two leave me?!”
Gu Huaiwei lowered her eyes. When people decide not to be reasonable, this is what it looks like.
She didn’t want to bother with him.
She’d just obediently wait out her countdown.
Professor Feng’s steps turned messy. He lifted the gun and aimed it at Gu Huaiwei. “Why aren’t you talking? You should be ashamed of what you’ve done! I’ll give you one last chance-if you’re willing to stay here like a good girl…”
“Sure.” Gu Huaiwei agreed at once.
The time was almost up. Better not provoke Professor Feng-just in case Lin She’s timing was off and Professor Feng kept losing it.
“Hm?” Professor Feng froze, the hand holding the gun stopping short. “You… you’re agreeing to stay?”
He didn’t quite believe it and wanted to hear it again.
The countdown-
Five, four, three, two, one.
Gu Huaiwei watched the white light bloom around her. The corners of her lips lifted as she gave Professor Feng a smile as lovely as spring sunlight in the early morning.
“Just kidding, idiot.”
Right before she left the world, Gu Huaiwei watched everything in front of her get swallowed by white light, and thought to herself: Lin She really was a punctual, trustworthy employee.
Professor Feng’s bullet fired, cutting through the ring of light.
They disappeared faster than the bullet.

The sky glowed with a purplish-red sheen. Stars swirled and streamed overhead like a dark, surging river, gathering into a single point.
The Matchmaking Agency Gu Huaiwei now ran was perched atop sheer cliffs. From up there, looking down, she could only see the Heavenly Ladder, faintly visible within the waterfall.
“Ah, it’s in some godforsaken place again.” Gu Huaiwei sat on a big stone block at the entrance, staring at the ramshackle wooden building behind her with an expression like she’d lost the will to live.
A battered old sign hung above it: Oasis Matchmaking Agency.
Who would come to a place like this looking for love?
Just climbing that Heavenly Ladder was enough to kill someone, okay?
Lin She and He Xueyi had both changed into new work uniforms. With no customers, they went together to tidy up the courtyard out back, hauling the moldy Matchmaker God outside to air it in the sun.
Gu Huaiwei bent over, using a sickle to cut down the weeds by the door.
Just then, a pair of red leather shoes appeared in Gu Huaiwei’s line of sight.
A soft female voice came from above her.
“Um… miss, can you help me find a partner here?” Her voice was small, uncertain.
Their first customer. Gu Huaiwei instantly perked up.
“Of course! Professional Matchmaker-fair and honest. New customers get a discount.”
Gu Huaiwei looked up with a bright smile, but the moment she saw the girl in front of her clearly, she froze in surprise.
