“Then, in her self-introduction, the client put special emphasis on human bloodline, physical and mental condition scores, lifespan, and language.

“I need to know why she emphasized those points.”

The information they needed to investigate was split into two parts.

There were three of them now.

Gu Huaiwei divided the work into three portions.

One person would stay behind to watch the shop and clean.

One person would go investigate information related to Aliens.

And one person would investigate information related to humans in this world.

“I don’t recommend splitting up. We can go out and investigate together, and leave He Xueyi to watch the shop,” Lin She said, closing his laptop. His dark green eyes looked as if they’d been soaked in night. “There aren’t any new customers right now. It’s perfect to leave him here.”

“Huh?” He Xueyi twirled the pen in his fingers. “But I want to go out with you.”

“This time, it should be my turn,” Lin She said, still hung up on what happened last time.

Splitting up was more efficient, but it came with risks.

Sticking together lowered the risk, but took more time.

Gu Huaiwei did some quick calculating in her head.

In the previous world, she’d already seen what He Xueyi could do-he had the ability, he just liked slacking off and muddling through, a bit too unserious.

This time, she’d take Lin She. He Xueyi might be lazy, but his temper was much better than Lin She’s. Leaving him alone here, he wouldn’t start demanding extra things.

But if she left Lin She at the shop again, with how petty he could be, he’d hold a grudge and go on strike.

With that in mind, Gu Huaiwei turned to He Xueyi. “Then this time, I’ll go out with Lin She. We’ll be back before dark.”
She paused, then added, “He Xueyi, stay in the shop and don’t slack off. If any new customers come in, take care of them.

“Wait, Miss Manager.” He Xueyi lifted a hand lightly to stop her. Those glassy, golden eyes of his carried a hint of disbelief. “You just assigned four things in one breath.”

Gu Huaiwei’s tone was bright. “Yeah. They’re all small stuff. You can handle it-think of it as getting some exercise.” In fact, she still hadn’t finished listing everything.

“The three of us can go out together,” He Xueyi said. He clearly didn’t want to stay behind doing grunt work. It would dirty his pristine white clothes.

“No. Someone has to stay in the shop.” Seeing the slightly troubled look on He Xueyi’s face, Gu Huaiwei put on a fake, pained expression and joked, “I mean, I’m just working for the boss too. Lin She walked alongside Gu Huaiwei. Gu Huaiwei kept her head tilted up, focused on the strange phenomenon in the sky, not talking to him.

She could see it clearly: the purple-red sheen of the heavens had been torn open by several jagged rifts, like a monster had raked its claws through the sky. Within them, a hazy sea of stars churned, and there were even some living ships drifting above.

“Why aren’t you counting on me?”

Gu Huaiwei was transfixed when Lin She suddenly spoke. His voice was low and slow, like a cold draft brushing lightly past her ear.

Lin She’s features were handsome, yet his skin was so pale and bloodless it gave him a sinister air. The lines of his face were hard, and his eyes always seemed full of shadow.

“I do better than He Xueyi by a lot. He can’t even handle basic cleaning in the shop. You could apply to the boss and have him fired.”

So he wanted to stab a coworker in the back.

Gu Huaiwei rested her thumb against her chin and thought for a moment. “Mm… you can think of him as the shop’s atmosphere team.”

He Xueyi would actively chat and engage with customers-social skills Lin She simply didn’t have.

Gu Huaiwei lived by the principle that there were no bad employees, only dumb bosses who didn’t know how to put people in the right roles.

She would make sure they were all used to their fullest.

When Lin She didn’t respond, Gu Huaiwei smiled and soothed him. “I’m counting on you too.”

“More than him?” Lin She pressed, darkly petty.

Gu Huaiwei gave him the answer he wanted to hear. “For now, I’m counting on you more.”

Competition created pressure. Letting them push each other was good for running the plane.

With a bit of a mischievous thought, Gu Huaiwei figured that if the boss could assign a few more employees while those two were letting their guard down, that would be even better.

The more hands for the work, the better.

They didn’t take the Heavenly Ladder inside the waterfall. Instead, they drove out. The Apocalypse Armored Vehicle was perfect for mountain roads. After a bumpy ride, they finally reached a repaired highway at the foot of the mountain. Through the window, Gu Huaiwei saw a modern city on both sides-harmonious at first glance, yet strangely off.
