Chapter 170

Lu Beijiu had originally wanted to say that it was because the Dawn Alliance once had a girl named Gu Changge who also cared about titles and hated excessive formalities…

He had only intended to lighten the mood with a bit of banter.

But meeting Lin She’s dark green eyes, Lu Beijiu felt that Lin She didn’t need an explanation; he was simply being hostile toward him.

Gu Huaiwei couldn’t let these two spend this precious hour bickering.

She raised a hand to her forehead, purposely letting her left foot trip over her right. Stumbling forward unsteadily, she grabbed the edge of a nearby table, frowning slightly as she projected a perfectly timed air of weakness.

“Miss Gu, what’s wrong?” Lin She asked in a low voice, reaching out to support her.

“It’s nothing. I think I might… have a bit of thalassophobia. I’m feeling a little dizzy,” Gu Huaiwei said, her voice faint and weak.

“Then go back to your room and rest first. When the time comes, I’ll call you ten minutes early,” Lu Beijiu said, regardless of whether Gu Huaiwei’s dizziness was real or feigned.

After seeing Lin She’s eyes, the sense of unease in Lu Beijiu’s heart had become particularly pronounced. To prevent any complications, he needed to report Lin She’s presence to headquarters ahead of schedule.

Lin She helped Gu Huaiwei into the guest room.

Once inside, Gu Huaiwei locked the door. Instantly shedding her sickly demeanor, she stood with one hand on her hip and said to Lin She, “Next time I’m acting, try to play along. Also, when you’re staring at someone, don’t do it for too long. Remember to blink, or you’ll creep them out.”

In moments like this, Lin She’s interpersonal skills fell short of He Xueyi’s.

Just now, Gu Huaiwei had clearly felt Lu Beijiu’s guard go up against Lin She.

Lin She nodded, humbly accepting Gu Huaiwei’s critique.

Gu Huaiwei explained the reason for her charade.

“When we were descending to the seabed, I checked the passage. There’s no signal down here, so I can’t contact you privately via phone. If we stayed in separate rooms, we wouldn’t be able to discuss things.”

Gu Huaiwei wanted to talk to Lin She about the Baptism.

She wasn’t sure if her constitution could withstand the Dawn Alliance’s brainwashing measures.

“Don’t worry. Even if we were in separate rooms, I would remain inseparable from you.”

“Hmm?” Gu Huaiwei didn’t quite understand.

“I said I would accompany you, so I won’t let you leave the safety range of my control.” Lin She touched Gu Huaiwei’s wrist. The spot where He Xueyi had previously left a thin Red Thread suddenly began to itch. Then, a ring of tiny black scales grew out, covering the original red mark.

“What is this?” Gu Huaiwei raised her wrist to examine the new tattoo.

“This is my mark.” Lin She’s gaze darkened slightly. “With this, it is the same as me being by your side.”

Gu Huaiwei asked, “Can I contact you directly through this?”

“Yes.” Lin She paused. “You only need to touch this mark with your finger, and I will immediately come to your side.”

There were subtle connections that existed between an Operator and an Assistant.

Not just Lin She, but even He Xueyi and Bai Miemie back at the Oasis Matchmaking Agency would be able to sense her if Gu Huaiwei’s body underwent a massive change or if she experienced intense emotional fluctuations.

Lin She’s combat power was similar to He Xueyi’s, but he wouldn’t slack off or wander around playing like He Xueyi did.

If anything went wrong, Gu Huaiwei could have Lin She take her away immediately.
With their retreat secured, Gu Huaiwei got down to business.

“Lin She, did you see the network cables on the ceiling when we came in?”

Lin She nodded.

Gu Huaiwei pulled her laptop out of the Jade Bracelet.

“I brought a computer. Can you hack into the Dawn Alliance’s internal network and find out how they perform ideological reformation on both humans and aliens?”

“I can, but it will take time.” Lin She took the laptop. His long, slender fingers tapped a few keys, and the screen instantly lit up.

Gu Huaiwei pressed further, “How long?”

“Two hours.”

Gu Huaiwei knit her brows slightly and made a quick decision. “In one hour, I’m going to meet with the high-ranking officials of the Dawn Alliance with Lu Beijiu. I’ll try to stall for as much time as possible to give you a sufficient window.”

Lin She gave a slight nod.

Gu Huaiwei continued arranging the next steps. “While we’re gone, try to copy all the Dawn Alliance’s classified data. If you run out of time, prioritize their brainwashing methods and personnel files.”

Gu Huaiwei remembered Zhou Chuanning mentioning that her sister’s personal file was with the Dawn Alliance.

He had refused to let her see it, citing that it was classified information.

Thus, Gu Huaiwei had no choice but to come to the Dawn Alliance to find it herself.

Lin She didn’t look up, his fingers never stopping their rhythmic tapping on the keyboard. He simply replied, “Understood.”

Lu Beijiu knocked on the door ten minutes early.

Lin She put the computer away.

Gu Huaiwei wrapped a bandage around her head and then sluggishly walked to the door to open it.

“Sorry about that… My head is spinning, I’m moving a bit slow today.”

Seeing Gu Huaiwei’s sickly appearance, Lu Beijiu’s lips twitched.

Did thalassophobia really require wrapping such a thick layer of bandages around one’s head?

Lu Beijiu suspected she was faking it, but he had no proof.

He figured that since they were at the bottom of the ocean anyway, Gu Huaiwei had nowhere to run. He let her dawdle along the way, listening to her moan and groan about her headache.

Once they reached the leader’s office, Lu Beijiu was about to leave when Gu Huaiwei grabbed his sleeve. “President Lu, I’m getting nervous, and my head is spinning even more. Why don’t you stay here with me? Having a familiar face around would put me at ease.”

She couldn’t let him go back and disturb Lin She.

Lu Beijiu tried to tug his sleeve away.

It didn’t budge.

Lu Beijiu exercised regularly, and he looked at Gu Huaiwei with a hint of suspicion. Wasn’t she supposed to be weak and ill? How was the grip strength in her hand so high?

“Sigh…” Lu Beijiu let out a heavy breath. He had originally hoped that after the Baptism, the person in front of him would become his old friend again.

But Gu Huaiwei’s series of performances made Lu Beijiu feel that it was impossible for the amnesiac Gu Changge to have returned.

The two of them were simply too different.

At that moment, the so-called leader walked out from the inner room.

The leader was a chubby middle-aged woman with a ruddy complexion and short, curly hair. Her face was so fleshy that it made her eyes look tiny, and her bright red lipstick was so vibrant it looked like a layer of shimmering lard smeared over her lips.

Upon seeing her, Lu Beijiu’s expression immediately turned respectful. “Sister Yu!”

The middle-aged woman known as Sister Yu nodded, then looked at Gu Huaiwei with a smile. When she saw Gu Huaiwei’s face clearly, her eyes actually welled up with tears. “Miss Gu, you’ve finally returned.”
