Chapter 191

With a creak, the wardrobe door was pushed open. Two slender, pale hands slowly reached out, gripping either side of the doorframe, as a little girl in a white Western-style dress leaned out from the cabinet.

By the moonlight, Gu Huaiwei secretly pulled a mirror from her pocket. In the reflection, she saw that the girl’s face had no pores, her skin possessing a waxy sheen. Long black hair clung wetly to both sides of her face, her gums were severely decayed, and her teeth were as white and sharp as needles.

However, the object hanging around the girl’s neck was sparkling, looking like something of high value.

Gu Huaiwei looked at the girl.

The girl was also looking at her.

Bella’s skirt was tattered and stained with flecks of dark red blood. The massive gray mist crystal gem hanging from her neck looked like a moon shrouded in dust.

She pointed toward the wardrobe and gave Gu Huaiwei a sinister smile. “You have to go in there and count.”

Gu Huaiwei stepped into the wardrobe.

Bai Miemie followed behind her.

Bella’s head tilted from side to side with two mechanical clicks, as if she were wound up by a clockwork key. Her gaze fell on Bai Miemie, and her glass-like eyes actually showed a hint of confusion. “Click, click, click… What is that thing following you?”

“My little Assistant. She isn’t participating in the game.”

“I’m Bai Miemie. You can call me Miemie, or you can call me Little Bai,” Bai Miemie greeted Bella with a cheerful grin.

“Not human… click, click, click…” Bella had never seen a creature like Bai Miemie. She seemed to be glitching slightly, like a bug appearing in a game.

Gu Huaiwei immediately promised, “Miemie is a good girl. She won’t interfere with our game.”

Bella stood still. She was silent for a moment before slowly tilting her head, a laugh escaping her throat like a sharp, thin blade. “Bella likes new toys. Let’s play together. Wait for the Bell Toll… click, click, click… then we can be together forever.”

An Anomaly is an incredibly powerful, immovable existence within its own Instance.

Humans have no way to kill an Anomaly.

The only way to escape is to follow the Rules.

Bella had lived in the Gray Mist Town Library for many years and had devoured countless Trial-takers.

As soon as the Bell Toll sounded, she could begin her hunting game.

Bella was looking forward to it.

Although she didn’t know how Bai Miemie had gotten in, she wanted to taste what a new species was like.

Fang Zhao was in no mood to listen to this. He urged from the side, “Let’s just hurry up and start hide-and-seek.”

The more time he wasted, the less time he would have to find the Toy Room.

“Then, the game begins.”

Gu Huaiwei walked into the open wardrobe, raised her arms, buried her face in her forearms, and closed her eyes to begin counting.

“One, two, three…”

The moment the game started, Fang Zhao quickly left the attic to search for Bella’s Toy Room on the sixth floor of the Library.

Bella, however, did not leave the attic.

She stood right there, waiting for the moment of the Anomaly hunt to descend.

Gu Huaiwei’s back was turned to Bella.

As she counted, she felt the deathly aura unique to an Anomaly lingering behind her, refusing to dissipate.

A chill ran down her spine.

The little girl probably hadn’t left.

Bella pressed her face close to Gu Huaiwei’s back.

Human… but not a Trial-taker…

How did this human break into a closed Instance?

Bella’s brain short-circuited slightly. Her brain had suffered a heavy blow when she died decades ago, and it frequently malfunctioned.

A total of five investigative Reporters had come.

One had died in the elevator.

Bella counted on her fingers. The pinky on her left hand was missing a segment. No matter how she counted, she couldn’t make the numbers add up.
She lifted her head, her expression somewhat vacant.

Then, she began to drool as she looked at Gu Huaiwei and Bai Miemie.

The midnight bell tolled.

After Gu Huaiwei finished her count, she turned around to see Bella standing right there.

The moonlight fell upon the girl’s slightly hideous face.

She hadn’t hidden at all.

“Hide-and-seek, hide-and-seek.

Where is Bella? Where is Bella?

Bella is right behind you, waiting for you.”

Bella sang the eerie nursery rhyme just as she always did. Clapping her hands with a twisted expression, she hopped and skipped, seemingly filled with excitement.

She planned to eat Gu Huaiwei’s internal organs clean, then use her skin to sew a Miner toy to display in the attic as a collectible.

If it were any previous Trial-takers, they would have been screaming and running for their lives at the sight of her.

But Gu Huaiwei did nothing of the sort.

“Found you.” Seeing Bella reach out a small hand toward her, Gu Huaiwei grabbed it firmly and leaned down. “Now, it’s your turn to be ‘it’.”

“You dare touch me… kacha, kacha…” Bella’s mouth opened wider and wider.

Gu Huaiwei gripped her hand. “In hide-and-seek, you have to hold on tight like this for it to count.”

Bella suddenly snapped her jaws open, revealing a mouthful of rotting gums.

She bit down hard on the back of Gu Huaiwei’s hand.

“Hiss-” Gu Huaiwei felt a sensation like the sting of a candle flame on the back of her hand. It was a bit painful, so she immediately gave Bella’s head a sharp smack.

To Bella, the texture felt incredibly hard, and it burned her mouth.

Dazed, she lifted her head, and two teeth fell out of her mouth.

Bella looked down at her teeth for a moment.

Then she looked back up at Gu Huaiwei.

“You hit me.” Bella shrank back. “You can actually hit me… kacha, kacha…”

“What did you expect? You bit me first, so of course I’m going to hit back.” Gu Huaiwei rubbed the back of her hand. The bitten area was a bit red, but it wasn’t a big deal.

“Kacha, kacha… You didn’t find the Toy Room, yet you can hit me…” Like a startled black cat, Bella quickly retreated into the wardrobe and slammed the doors shut from the inside. The entire wardrobe began to tremble violently. “You’re cheating! You aren’t following the Rules! I don’t want to play hide-and-seek with you anymore… kacha, kacha…”

This baseless accusation left Gu Huaiwei feeling baffled.

“How am I cheating? I really did count to a hundred. You were right behind me; you should have heard it clearly.”

However, no matter what Gu Huaiwei said, Bella remained hidden inside the wardrobe, refusing to show her face or make another sound.

She was like a terrified child.

Gu Huaiwei tried to open the wardrobe doors, but they wouldn’t budge an inch.

“Alright, alright. How about we go for another round?”

After all, the girl had lost two teeth; she looked quite pitiful.

“I don’t want to play games with you! You don’t follow the Rules… kacha, kacha… Leave my Library! Go away! Get out of my Library right now!”

Bella began to scream frantically.

She really did look like a patient with manic syndrome, just as Han Zhusheng had described.

The biggest problem in this Dimension was the lack of customers.

Originally, Gu Huaiwei had planned to wait for the Library Director to arrive so she could build up some favor with both of them and coax them into visiting the Oasis Sanatorium.

But she had just knocked out Bella’s teeth.

Whether Bella was adopted or the Library Director’s biological daughter, once that Director saw those two front teeth on the floor, they would definitely come looking to settle the score.

Time to go.

Gu Huaiwei decided to make a run for it before the parent showed up.
