Dimensional Store: Welcome to the Apocalypse Apartment - Chapter 213
Chapter 213
The Head Overseer reached out. His skin was pitch black, and his fingernails were indeed a metallic silver-gray, incredibly sharp.
Gu Huaiwei stared at the tip of his finger. Then, with a crisp snap, she broke off a section. She held the small fragment of the broken nail in her hand, observing it. Its luster was similar to Gray Crystal ore, resembling a dust-covered moon-quite beautiful.
“You… clack, clack… you can touch my nails.” The Head Overseer looked at his broken nail, nearly failing to maintain his human facade.
“Sorry, I snapped it. Here, you can have it back.” Gu Huaiwei pulled the Head Overseer’s cold hand toward her and returned the broken nail to him.
His palm was covered in dust.
If a Trial-taker were to touch it, they would be instantly infected with Mist Lung Disease. A part of their body would begin to swell, their cognitive abilities would decline, and they would become stupid and reckless, unable to follow the Rules. Eventually, they would end up in the maw of an Anomaly.
But Gu Huaiwei acted as if nothing had happened.
The Head Overseer’s eyes widened. He took a step back, then another, and began to beat the Leather Drum at his waist. The group of Overseers following him began to dance once more.
Their limbs were extremely uncoordinated as they surrounded Gu Huaiwei, slowly tightening the circle. Dust drifted off their bodies, making the air murky.
Gu Huaiwei inhaled some of the dust and sneezed. She rubbed her itchy nose with her index finger and quickly put on a mask.
“It’s getting crowded in here. Don’t you think it’s a bit hot?” Feeling stifled, Gu Huaiwei gave the Anomalies pressing too close to her a gentle shove.
Like a row of dominoes, the Anomalies toppled into one another, falling in a heap on the floor.
Their limbs flailed wildly as they tried to stand, but they became entangled with one another, looking utterly ridiculous.
Bai Yuzhen, hidden in the cabinet, held her breath. She watched the scene through a crack, her heart pounding in her chest.
She knew Gu Huaiwei had special abilities that allowed her to deal with these Anomalies.
However, seeing it with her own eyes was another matter entirely.
The woman chained to the bed had originally been shivering in the corner. Watching the scene unfold, she suddenly pulled a rusty knife from under her pillow. With a look of pure malice, she gripped the handle tightly and lunged at the back of Gu Huaiwei’s head.
“Die!” the woman shrieked.
Anomalies had to follow the Rules, but humans did not.
Since Gu Huaiwei was unwilling to take her along, she would use Gu Huaiwei to curry favor with these Anomalies.
“I’d rather not.” Gu Huaiwei tilted her head, a faint smile playing on her lips. She easily dodged the woman’s attack, even finding the leisure to joke, “If I died just because you told me to, wouldn’t that be quite embarrassing?”
Then, Gu Huaiwei raised her hand and lightly flicked the blade. Metal collided with her fair fingertip, producing a crisp, vibrating ring.
With a loud *clang*, the rusty knife trembled violently, flying out of the woman’s hand and landing on the bed.
“Ah!”
The woman wailed in terror. She clutched her numbed hand; the web of her thumb had been split open by the shock, and blood dripped through her fingers.
“How is this possible?” She stared at the knife, the resentment in her eyes undiminished. Her gaze toward Gu Huaiwei grew increasingly sinister. “This is a knife I brought back from another Dimension. How could you just use your hand to-”
Gu Huaiwei felt compelled to remind her of a cruel reality: “Your knife is already rusty.”
“But it was brought from another Dimension…” The woman cherished the rusty knife like a precious treasure. She shook her head frantically, refusing to accept the reality before her. “This knife could kill Anomalies in the beginning. It has holy power; it’s a blade blessed by the gods. It shouldn’t be like this… it shouldn’t be like this!”
Gu Huaiwei shrugged. “My dear, that’s nothing more than a piece of rusted iron. I don’t feel any special power coming from it at all.”
“But this was brought from a higher Dimension! It didn’t look like this originally. This Dimension polluted it… I have to leave. As long as I leave, it will return to its original form!”
Seeing the woman grow increasingly hysterical, Gu Huaiwei spoke with a touch of malice. “But you have no way to leave. It seems that not only has Paradise abandoned you, but the props you brought back from other Dimensions have abandoned you as well.”
She was trapped in this Dimension.
She would never be able to leave.
She was just like the blade in her hand; the moment she lost her status as an Operator, she lost her luster and became just another ordinary being in a minor Dimension.
Watching the fate of these people, Gu Huaiwei became even more convinced that her sister would never have stayed in any minor Dimension.
As for the fallen Bandit Overseers…
Gu Huaiwei very kindly helped them up one by one, then stuffed a promotional flyer into each of their hands.
“Our Oasis Sanatorium has ways to inhibit osteoporosis. Since you all fall over with just a little push, you must be calcium deficient. Come to the Sanatorium when you have time, and we’ll give you each a diagnosis.”
Then, Gu Huaiwei stepped past the crowd and walked up to the Bandit Overseer hiding at the very back. She straightened the Skull necklace around his neck and stuffed a promotional flyer into his hand as well.
This Bandit Overseer’s Anomaly level was likely higher than the pile of overseers who had just fallen.
He could speak full human sentences and maintain a human form.
“Want to sign a Contract with me and leave this Instance together? Staying in this dark Mine Tunnel every day must be quite boring. Since you used to live in the mountains, you’d probably prefer a more free and easy life…”
Gu Huaiwei’s original intention was to promote the Sanatorium.
But as soon as the Head Overseer heard the words “in the mountains,” his entire demeanor turned dark. He suddenly smashed the Leather Drum at his waist and pulled out a massive kitchen knife from inside.
“Clack, clack, clack… Do you know who we are?”
Bai Yuzhen, hiding inside the large wardrobe, broke into a cold sweat for Gu Huaiwei. The Rules mentioned that one must never expose the true identity of the Bandit Overseers.
Gu Huaiwei nodded. “I know. Don’t worry, our Sanatorium Hospital doesn’t care where our guests come from. As long as you can afford the Lifespan, we guarantee to provide our services with all our heart.”
The Head Overseer raised the kitchen knife to strike her.
According to the Rules, Gu Huaiwei had already violated them, and he was entitled to his reward. However, as the blade swung straight down, Gu Huaiwei caught it between her fingers.
“Don’t be so violent.”
The Head Overseer, an Anomaly, froze. He looked at the knife in his hand, then slowly looked up at Gu Huaiwei.
He used his long-dead brain to analyze the situation before him.
A human violating the Rules meant an Anomaly could eat them.
Gu Huaiwei had violated the Rules, but he had no way to chop her up to make pickled melon, nor could he flay her skin to make a new Leather Drum.
The Head Overseer’s stiff features showed a brief moment of blankness.
Then, he silently pulled the kitchen knife back, tucked it into the tattered Leather Drum, and slapped both sides of the drum. Leading his subordinates-who were still holding the flyers-he slowly retreated from the room.
He pretended that nothing had happened just now.
