Chapter 220

“Han Zhusheng, your colleague seems to have glitched.”

“After those Reporters left, we needed to reset all the items in the Newspaper Reading Area,” Han Zhusheng said, his hands never stopping and his tone indifferent. “You were the one who messed up her work.”

“Ah, sorry.” Gu Huaiwei immediately stood up from the chair.

The Cleaner Auntie pushed the chair back into place.

“Ka ka ka…”

Low-level Anomalies were unable to speak much in human tongues.

The Cleaner Auntie raised her hand to pat Gu Huaiwei’s head, then pulled a Little Red Flower sticker from her pocket and stuck it onto Gu Huaiwei’s cuff.

A chill ran from the top of Gu Huaiwei’s skull straight down to her heels.

She shivered from the cold.

“What does this mean?” Gu Huaiwei needed a translation.

Han Zhusheng folded the last newspaper, set it down, walked over, and peeled the Little Red Flower sticker off Gu Huaiwei’s cuff.

He explained, “She had a naughty granddaughter who liked to cause trouble while she worked.”

“I see.” The Cleaner Auntie had mistaken Gu Huaiwei for her mischievous granddaughter.

Anomalies were clusters of pollution formed by the obsessions of the deceased during their lives.

They would unconsciously repeat the actions they performed before they died.

“Then this Little Red Flower should be useful to other Trial-takers.” Gu Huaiwei took the sticker back from Han Zhusheng’s hand and stuck it onto the back of Bai Miemie’s hand.

“You two don’t need those things.”

The Little Red Flower was a type of Anomaly Artifact.

By wearing the Little Red Flower sticker, the Anomaly Cleaner Auntie would not harm the Trial-taker.

For a Trial-taker, it was definitely a rare and precious item.

However, neither Gu Huaiwei nor Bai Miemie belonged to this Dimension, so they didn’t need to follow the Rules of this world. To them, these Anomaly Artifacts were essentially useless.

Bai Miemie raised the back of her hand, tilted her head, and said with disdain, “This big red flower is a bit tacky.”

Gu Huaiwei thought it looked quite festive on the back of Bai Miemie’s hand; she had assumed all children liked stickers.

“Is it tacky?” Gu Huaiwei raised her hand, preparing to peel it off for her.

Bai Miemie immediately changed her tune, saying sweetly, “Since Sister Gu put it on me, it’s not tacky at all. It’s super cute, Miemie loves it!”

As they were talking, the last bookshelf in the Newspaper Reading Area collapsed with a thunderous crash. The newspapers that had already been organized scattered across the floor like an avalanche.

Amidst the flying pages, two Trial-takers – a man and a woman-stood hand-in-hand among the scattered papers, looking terrified and a bit embarrassed.

The gaze of every Anomaly was drawn toward them.

The Low-level Anomalies stopped their licking, and the Cleaner Auntie stopped her cleaning. They slowly turned their heads, then simultaneously flashed exaggerated, stiff smiles at the pair.

Han Zhusheng walked toward the two. “The Newspaper Reading Area is closed. Did you two enter during non-reading hours looking for something?”

The two Trial-takers were a couple.

A burly, muscular man named Zhang Wenwu, whose muscles were as hard as steel and who possessed a natural air of authority, was currently shielding the woman behind him.

The woman he was protecting was named Qin Yuhuan. Her complexion was terrible, and her whole body appeared slightly bloated. Gu Huaiwei noticed her protruding belly… she seemed to be pregnant.

Qin Yuhuan was clutching a newspaper containing a report about yesterday’s fire.

They had come here to steal information.

However, during the process, they hadn’t noticed that the last bookshelf was missing a corner. Because Qin Yuhuan’s body was cumbersome due to her pregnancy, she had accidentally knocked the bookshelf over, leading to the current situation.

A pregnant woman entering an Instance only counted as one person.

But what Gu Huaiwei was thinking was that at the Oasis Matchmaking Agency, a pregnant woman counted as two people, allowing for an extra service fee.

She was definitely a high-quality customer.

Zhang Wenwu ignored Han Zhusheng. Instead, he took off the Red Cross Necklace from around his neck and placed it around Qin Yuhuan’s.

This necklace could help her evade the pursuit of Anomalies and mask her human scent.

Zhang Wenwu pressed the back of Qin Yuhuan’s head, kissed her cold forehead, and said with determination, “Darling, you leave first!”

Qin Yuhuan’s fingertips trembled as she gripped the necklace at her chest. Her eyes shimmered with tears as she looked up at Zhang Wenwu, her voice nearly choking, “What about you? What will you do?”

“I’ll hold them off!”

The Rules required them to avoid the Library staff, find the newspaper about the fire, and then report the Library for fire safety violations.

Being discovered now meant they had violated the Rules.

Qin Yuhuan’s fingers brushed over her slightly bulging stomach. She stared fixedly at Zhang Wenwu, as if trying to engrave his current image into her heart.

Even if he didn’t say it, she knew that his chances of survival were slim.

“If…” her voice trembled slightly as she fought back tears, “I mean, if you survive, no matter what you turn into, you must come back and find me.”

Zhang Wenwu’s Adam’s apple bobbed, his eyes filled with suppressed pain. He nodded and said in a low voice, “I will. Go.”

Despite Zhang Wenwu’s rugged appearance, his tough exterior could not hide his inner torment when facing a life-or-death separation.

Qin Yuhuan took a deep breath, desperately suppressing the bitterness in her chest. She gave him one last look, gritted her teeth, and turned to leave.

She knew that if she insisted on staying, it would only lead to more sacrifice. She wasn’t afraid to die, but she needed to protect the child in her womb.

Han Zhusheng walked toward them step by step.

“What truly disobedient guests. Since you broke my bookshelf, leave your hands and feet behind to serve as its four corners.”

Receiving Han Zhusheng’s command, the other Anomalies began to hunt down the fleeing Qin Yuhuan.

“Miemie, block them,” Gu Huaiwei decided to offer a bit of protection to such a precious source of customers as a pregnant woman.

“Okey-dokey.” Bai Miemie stood at the exit.

She didn’t harm the Anomalies either; she simply used her little head to headbutt back every Anomaly that tried to go through the door.

“Boop~ I boop, boop, boop~”

The Anomalies reached out to scratch and claw at Bai Miemie.

But for Bai Miemie, that level of force was nothing more than an itch; it couldn’t cause her any harm.

“Miss Gu, are you going to side with the humans and oppose me?” Han Zhusheng turned his head, looking at Gu Huaiwei with a sinister expression.
