Chapter 237

Gu Huaiwei looked at the remaining dates on his room booking with exceptional indifference and held up two fingers.

“You have two days left. Please renew before two o’clock tomorrow afternoon.”

The moment Xiao Wu heard Gu Huaiwei urging him to pay his room fee, he instantly lost it. His brows twisted together, and that sharp-mouthed, monkey-cheeked face of his looked especially mean. “I just said all that to you. Did you hear me or not?”

“Oh, I heard you.”

“Then you’re not going to give me an explanation?” He kept reaching his hand toward Gu Huaiwei’s face.

Seeing that Gu Huaiwei had no Assistant beside her and was only an ordinary-looking girl, wicked thoughts rose in his heart. He wanted to shove her around, and his hand deliberately reached toward sensitive places.

Gu Huaiwei blocked him once.

Xiao Wu pushed his luck. “Hurry up and compensate me!”

Gu Huaiwei could sense the movement he was deliberately trying to hide.

“Sigh. For the sake of keeping things respectable in business, I’ve already been very good-tempered.”

She looked at him as if she were looking at a child who didn’t know any better.

“I’m not a patient person. Please stop buzzing in my ear all the time. It makes it very hard for me to hold back.”

“Hold back from what?” Xiao Wu spat directly onto the front desk. “Actually, there’s something I’ve wanted to say for a long time. You’re a woman, showing your face in public and doing business outside all day. Can you even do it well?

“Other places have front-desk girls who are gentle and pretty, with good attitudes too.

“But look at you. You work three days and slack off for two, and you’re always not in the shop. You just want to play all the time. Who knows where you’ve been running off to fool around?”

Gu Huaiwei sighed softly and lightly caught his wrist in midair. “This hand of yours really isn’t well-behaved.”

She had barely used any force when Xiao Wu felt a sharp pain shoot through his wrist. Immediately after came the creaking sound of bone.

For a thin, weak man like him, she could casually break his bones and tear his tendons if she wanted.

Expressionless, she looked at him. “Mr. Wu, could you please stop interfering with my work? I’m really very busy right now.”

“Aaaah!” Xiao Wu let out a miserable shriek like a pig being slaughtered. “Violent crazy woman! What the hell are you? How are you this strong?!”

The more miserably he screamed, the better Gu Huaiwei felt.

“Oh dear, I used just a little too much strength. Hurry over to the Recovery Room. If you’re late, you might end up with aftereffects.” Gu Huaiwei smiled as she released him.

She had only dislocated his wrist joint. It wasn’t as if she’d crushed his bones.

The customer was still within his contract period, so Gu Huaiwei would show a little restraint and not make it too ugly.

After Xiao Wu suffered the loss, he cursed under his breath, clutched his wrist, and headed to the Basic Recovery Room to have the bone set.

The Basic Recovery Room did not offer that function.

He ran to the entrance of the Intermediate Recovery Room and made a scene.

He yelled, cursed, threw a tantrum, and rolled around, but no one paid him any attention.

Once he went too far, he felt a damp, cold gaze fixed on him from behind, making his scalp prickle.

When he turned around, he saw the male employee he hated most staring at him with those dark green eyes.

That gaze did not look like it was directed at a customer.

It was more like the gaze of a cold-blooded animal hiding in some dark, damp place, watching its prey.

It sent a chill down his spine.

His wrist hurt so much he thought he might die. In the end, left with no choice, he spent his own Lifespan before he managed to set the bone in his wrist back into place.

The next day, Xiao Wu changed tactics.

He stole the Sunflower He Xueyi had placed in the vase in the lobby and carried it over to Gu Huaiwei.

“Hey, pretty girl, this is for you. Do you like it?”

Gu Huaiwei glanced at the flower in his hand.

The flower had already wilted. Its blossom drooped from dehydration, and the Worm at its center hung down strand by strand, making it especially ugly.

“Please don’t take things from the shop without permission.”

Xiao Wu’s leg had already been lame to begin with, and now his hand was wrapped in bandages too, making it difficult for him to move around. But his mouth still wouldn’t behave.
“The truth is, my wife and I stopped having feelings for each other a long time ago. She’s especially domineering. Just because she can earn a little Lifespan, she thinks she’s something special. She has to lord it over me in everything and never considers my dignity or feelings.”

“Stop. Don’t come whining to me.” Today was the last day of Xiao Wu’s contract. Gu Huaiwei had decided to wait until the exact moment the contract ended, then have Lin She and the others throw this disgusting customer out.

“Don’t be like that, pretty girl. I’m baring my whole heart to you here.” Xiao Wu only thought Gu Huaiwei was shy. When he was young, he had his own method for dealing with women: he just had to be shameless enough and keep pestering them without giving up.

Material things, looks-none of that mattered.

Women were thin-skinned and bad at refusing people. As long as he kept at it, he would definitely get what he wanted.

That was how he had chased down his wife when she was young.

Gu Huaiwei was deeply annoyed by his greasy words. “Did your hand heal a little too fast?”

“I know. You dislocated my hand just to get my attention. It was a little violent, but I don’t blame you.”

“You should blame me.” Gu Huaiwei could not understand this man’s thought process at all.

“Why?”

Gu Huaiwei looked at him and sneered. Because after his contract expired, she would no longer be holding back the way she was now.

Xiao Wu did not sense the danger. He put on a troubled expression and continued chattering at Gu Huaiwei. “After all these years, my wife and I never had children either. You know, that kind of thing is always the woman’s problem. Seeds won’t sprout in that patch of her soil, and I still had to tolerate her. I tolerated her for so many years. I’m truly exhausted.

“Now, I don’t know if it’s because she despises me for my poor health, but she ran off with another man. Of course, I don’t blame her for doing that. She and I both need a fresh start.”

The fresh start Xiao Wu meant was coming here to harass Gu Huaiwei.

Hearing him say something so shameless, Gu Huaiwei tossed the Ledger in her hand aside.

“First, I don’t want something someone else threw away. This place isn’t a garbage recycling station.

“Second, even if you date me, you still don’t get your room fee waived.

“Third, I like to test true love with money. If you really like me, please pay double the room fee and support my career.”

Gu Huaiwei spoke with exceptional bluntness, leaving him no dignity at all.

Deep down, Xiao Wu felt that Gu Huaiwei was extremely materialistic.

But he still said shamelessly, “How about we deduct the room fee from the betrothal gift I’ll give you in the future?”

That was so absurd it defied belief.

Gu Huaiwei pressed her lips together and ignored him. Instead, she left the front desk, walked around Xiao Wu, headed into the courtyard, and came to He Xueyi, who was sitting silently on a bench reading. She bent slightly and said a few words by his ear.

He Xueyi rested the book against his knee, turned his golden eyes toward Xiao Wu inside the building, and nodded to Gu Huaiwei.

“Don’t worry, Shop Manager Miss. I’ll handle it even more beautifully than Lin She.”

Xiao Wu felt that gaze and tightened his grip on the flowers in his hand. No wonder this gold-digging female shop manager was pretending to be reserved. So she had an unclear relationship with her own Assistant.

This Sanatorium was pretty large, too.

In his mind, Gu Huaiwei must have used that bit of prettiness to seduce men into staying and working in the shop, tricking Lifespan out of their pockets. That was the only way she could afford to support such a large Sanatorium.

“What a pretender. But that’s fine. I’ve got plenty of patience. Sooner or later, I’ll win you over.”

He fantasized that after he won Gu Huaiwei over, he would make her get pregnant as soon as possible-two children in three years. That way, she would no longer have the energy to manage the shop.

By then, he could naturally become the owner of this Sanatorium, hire more pretty young nurses, have them work during the day, and give him massages at night.
