Chapter 253

Gu Huaiwei paused. “…I’ll turn you into a little cupcake and give you to your girlfriend for her birthday.”

She liked saying things like that with a smile.

People who didn’t know her would take them as jokes.

Gu Huaiwei did enjoy joking around. But if anyone truly got in the way of her real business, those jokes had a way of coming true.

Lulu’s hand and Lulu’s Fiancé’s hand were fused together at the palms.

Their heads turned at the same time until they were facing each other, like wind-up puppets, their mouths opening and closing in sync as they made a clicking, clacking sound.

They were probably communicating.

And communicating with exceptional intensity.

Gu Huaiwei felt Lulu’s voice was a little louder.

Anomaly could have conflicts with one another too.

They corroded each other, starting from their joined fingers, devouring each other’s skin like two pieces of modeling clay kneaded together, twisting and merging into one another.

Lulu’s Fiancé seemed to have the upper hand.

Because Gu Huaiwei saw a black Videotape appear at the place where their bodies were connected.

When Lulu gained the advantage, one corner of that Videotape would protrude from their bodies. When Lulu’s Fiancé gained the advantage, the Videotape would be swallowed back in.

They were locked in an extreme tug-of-war.

Should she stand there and shout, “Stop fighting, you two,” or should she do it herself and secure what she needed?

Gu Huaiwei chose the latter.

She flexed her fingers, then plunged her entire hand into the place where they were connected. It was soft and warm, like dipping her hand into cooked taro mash. She stirred around inside and felt the hard Videotape.

Lulu’s Fiancé glared at her.

Gu Huaiwei ignored him and forcefully pried the Videotape out.

She could feel that sticky mass acting like a black hole, trying to suck her in.

But she was extremely strong.

That force couldn’t drag her anywhere.

An Qiushui and Zhang Guoqing both kept their eyes tightly shut.

They sensed the commotion outside and heard Gu Huaiwei threatening the Anomaly.

Was it an auditory hallucination?

The birthday song had not ended yet. They did not dare open their eyes.

Gu Huaiwei had already obtained the Videotape. She looked at the candles on the table. They had not been blown out, and the lotus lamp in the center was still singing the birthday song over and over.

“Happy birthday to you~ Happy birthday to you~”

That noisy electronic voice held none of the joy of a birthday. In this pitch-black room, with candlelight flickering, it sounded more like an incantation.

Lulu’s Fiancé could do nothing to Gu Huaiwei.

Dragging their fused body along, he moved in front of An Qiushui and breathed against her eyes.

Then he imitated Gu Huaiwei’s voice.

“It’s over. Hurry and open your eyes so you can eat the birthday cake.”

His imitation of a human voice was extremely accurate. It even overwhelmed the special tone an Anomaly originally possessed.

Since the Anomaly was imitating Gu Huaiwei, Gu Huaiwei smiled and imitated the Anomaly right back. “Click, clack, clack… If you open your eyes, you’ll turn into cake.”

Mostly, she did it to make him even more annoyed.

Lulu’s Fiancé spoke faster, trying to lure An Qiushui and Zhang Guoqing into opening their eyes. Fortunately, they were cautious enough. They had long since witnessed how Anomaly deceived humans, so they strictly obeyed the Rules and resolutely refused to open their eyes.

Gu Huaiwei remembered that An Qiushui had said the Rules stated they could only open their eyes when the birthday song stopped.

She had already obtained the Videotape.

So she walked up to the birthday cake, intending to blow out all twenty lit candles.

Gu Huaiwei bent over to blow out the candles. She parted her full red lips and blew, only to find that the flames merely shrank lightly before flaring back up. They could not be blown out at all.

These candles had to be blown out by an Anomaly.

Lulu’s Fiancé seemed very pleased when he saw this.
Under his somewhat smug gaze, Gu Huaiwei reached out and pinched the flame out between her index finger and thumb.

Her fingertips were slender and fair. When they touched the fire, the heat could not burn her skin. She rubbed the candlewicks between her fingers until they were completely extinguished.

Then she pulled out the candles, yanked out the lotus lamp that was singing the birthday song, and smashed it to pieces with her fist.

Even shattered, the lotus lamp stubbornly kept singing the birthday song in fits and starts.

Gu Huaiwei dug the batteries out of the debris.

At last, the lotus lamp fell silent.

Lulu’s Fiancé began humming the birthday song himself.

While she was at it, Gu Huaiwei picked up the cake, walked over to Lulu’s Fiancé, grabbed him by the throat, pried open his mouth, and stuffed the entire ten-inch cake down his throat.

“Eat more cake. Stop talking.”

“Be good. I’ll feed you.”

“I’m not even complaining about how messy you look eating it, so don’t you complain that I’m being rough.”

The cake choked the Anomaly until it could no longer make a sound.

“Ka, ka, ka… Happy… ka, mmph, ah…”

Lulu’s Fiancé began to struggle.

Black mist seeped from his body.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Lulu slowly pulled herself free from the body she had been fused with.

“Ka, ka, ka… Hurry and give me the Videotape. Give me the Videotape, and I’ll sign a Contract with you and leave this place with you.”

Lulu stretched out a hand toward Gu Huaiwei, her tone urgent.

Her fiancé was still trying to control her.

“Hold on. Let me take a look first.”

The moment Gu Huaiwei said that, An Qiushui visibly trembled. The Rules said that under no circumstances were they allowed to secretly watch the Videotape out of curiosity, but not only did Gu Huaiwei intend to watch it, she even said so right in front of Lulu.

The birthday song had stopped, but An Qiushui still did not dare open her eyes.

She heard that Gu Huaiwei had already gotten the Videotape.

With Gu Huaiwei here, she did not need to do anything at all. All she had to do was follow the Rules and wait quietly for Gu Huaiwei to obtain the Instance’s key information and items, then toss them straight to them.

Being carried like this filled An Qiushui with terrified gratitude-and, for some reason, felt incredibly satisfying.

Gu Huaiwei wanted to watch the Videotape, and Lulu did not stop her. Instead, she stared at Gu Huaiwei with a sinister gaze, as if her eyes had been soaked in sludge, full of endless resentment and malice, locked firmly on her.

As for the fiancé half-corroded by Lulu, the corners of his lips split into a curved grin. He laughed savagely, looking forward to Gu Huaiwei watching further.

The camera on the Videotape was trained on Lulu the entire time.

At first, the footage was in a hospital.

A young nurse carried a wailing, hungry infant out of her swaddling clothes and tried to hand the baby to the young Dean and his wife beside her.

The camera remained fixed on the ugly birthmark on Lulu’s face.

The Dean and the deputy dean merely looked at the child with cold faces, then told the family doctor to carry her away.

From the moment she was born, they had never once held Lulu.

The footage that followed remained focused on Lulu as she grew up.

Her family environment was extremely oppressive.

From childhood to adulthood, she had to study a great many subjects every single day.

From piano and dance to all kinds of math, physics, and chemistry tutoring classes, she did very well, but rarely received any praise.

At first, Lulu liked the camera very much.

She would talk to the lens and call the person filming her “Teacher Cameraman.”

But as she grew older, Lulu began to become hysterical.

She screamed at the camera, “Stop filming my face!”

She even threw books at the lens.

But the camera merely tilted a couple of times before resuming its normal filming.

It ignored her fury, ignored her dignity, and recorded every side of her.
