Dimensional Store: Welcome to the Apocalypse Apartment - Chapter 256
Chapter 256
The young train attendant knew Gu Huaiwei was helping him.
He immediately shook off the girl pestering him, went to Gu Huaiwei’s side, supported her, and quickly left the carriage.
Gu Huaiwei instructed Bai Miemie to stay behind and keep collecting the debt. She was not to let the old woman and her grandson run off.
Lulu followed behind Gu Huaiwei, acting as a dutiful Contract Anomaly.
Feeling the human warmth of Gu Huaiwei’s body, the young attendant asked quietly, “Are you human too?”
Gu Huaiwei nodded.
She felt a little gratified. Finally, someone had immediately taken her for a human instead of an Anomaly.
“This is a two-person Instance. The Trial-taker who came in with me is already dead.” Grief showed on the young attendant’s face. “Are you someone who was trapped in the Instance before and couldn’t get out? Are there other people in this carriage in the same situation as you?”
Having more human companions would make the attendant feel safer.
Sometimes, when a round of an Instance closed, some human Trial-takers failed to leave in time. They would remain inside the Instance, gradually become contaminated, and turn into part of the Instance itself.
The young attendant had categorized Gu Huaiwei as one of those people.
Gu Huaiwei briefly explained her situation, then said, “You’re overthinking it. I only just got on the train.”
“Huh?” The young attendant’s face instantly went pale. “Does that mean my round of the Instance has already ended, and you’re a new round of Trial-takers?”
If that was the case, then he would never be able to leave the Instance.
“It hasn’t ended. You still have a chance to escape.” Gu Huaiwei felt that the more she explained, the more this young man would let his imagination run wild.
Seeing his complexion grow worse and worse, Gu Huaiwei stuffed a small advertisement for Oasis Sanatorium into his pocket and comforted him, “Don’t overthink it. I’m different from you. Just think of me as a hidden easter egg that suddenly appeared in the Instance. I won’t set you up.”
“An easter egg?”
Gu Huaiwei smiled. “That’s right. An easter egg that brings good luck.”
They passed by the restroom on the Green Train.
The restroom door was open, and the mirror only reflected the young man’s figure.
Gu Huaiwei smelled the thick reek of blood coming from inside and frowned slightly.
They arrived at Car No. 0.
They did not see the Hospital Director.
A Noble Lady in a mink coat hurried forward in black high heels and said to the attendant, “My husband went to the restroom and has been missing for more than half an hour. He has an important meeting at the hospital tomorrow that he must attend. Please, you must help me find my husband!”
“All right!” Bound by the Rules, the young attendant had to agree to the Noble Lady’s request.
He helped Gu Huaiwei to the side.
“Miss Gu, please rest here. I need to go look for someone first.”
“Mm. Go ahead.” Gu Huaiwei’s arm was not actually injured at all. She waved a hand, letting the young attendant go take care of his own business.
After the young attendant left, Lulu looked at the Noble Lady and said in a voice utterly devoid of emotion, “Mom.”
The Noble Lady was exceptionally cold. “Lulu, what are you doing here? I told you long ago not to leave your bangs so long. They’ll cover your eyes like that.
Have you finished your studies? Have you done your social practice? Stop neglecting proper work and wandering around outside.”
“In one more year, you’ll be graduating from Gray Mist University. You need to perform well enough that your father will allow you to work at the hospital.”
Lulu tugged her bangs down to cover the birthmark on her face. “Today is my birthday.”
The Noble Lady turned her head away, no longer willing to look at her. “We transfer you a fixed amount of money every month. You need to learn to arrange your own birthday instead of coming here to tell me about it.”
Even after this mother and daughter had both become part of the Anomaly, their conversation was still utterly devoid of warmth.
Just then, the young conductor’s scream came from the direction of the restroom.
They were some distance away, but Gu Huaiwei’s hearing was sharp enough to catch it.
Gu Huaiwei’s main target was the Hospital Director, not the Director’s Wife.
“Come on. Let’s go take a look.”
Gu Huaiwei left Carriage Zero, and Lulu had no choice but to follow her.
When Lulu left, the Director’s Wife, who had refused to look at her the entire time, silently watched her back as she turned and followed Gu Huaiwei away.
There was, unexpectedly, a trace of sorrow in her expression.
Gu Huaiwei arrived at the restroom on the Green Train.
The young conductor was lying on the floor, unconscious.
Gu Huaiwei dragged him out of the restroom, then pinched the spot beneath his nose.
The young man didn’t respond.
Gu Huaiwei raised her hand and slapped his face several times. Smack, smack.
Only then did the young man slowly wake up.
He looked as though his soul had been frightened out of him. Though his eyes were open, he couldn’t string together a complete sentence.
Gu Huaiwei had no choice but to search the restroom stall herself. She found that there was no one inside.
“Where did he run off to?” Gu Huaiwei left the restroom. As she walked down the aisle, she tripped over a gap in the floorboards.
“Hiss-”
Gu Huaiwei crouched down to inspect the floor and discovered that the train’s floorboards had actually come loose. That plank could be lifted up.
Cold wind poured in through the empty, gaping hole.
It gave Gu Huaiwei a bad feeling.
And Lulu kept staring at that hole.
Just then, the sound of a phone ringing came from Car No. 0 again.
The Noble Lady walked over, panic written across her face, and said to the conductor, “Hurry and notify the train captain to stop the train. My husband seems to have fallen off.”
“How do you know that?”
The Noble Lady took out her phone, tears welling in her eyes. “My husband just called me for help. He said… click, click, click… he said…”
The Noble Lady’s condition became extremely unstable.
Her words came in broken fragments.
One moment, they were filled with deep resentment; the next, with grief and anxiety.
“Why won’t you stop the train? Your train captain actually doesn’t believe me… click, click, click… I’ve already received his call for help!”
“My husband… click, click, click… my husband told me he fell off the train, and both his hands and feet were crushed… click, click, click…”
“It was this hole… click, click, click… he fell through this hole.”
Then the Noble Lady grabbed the dazed young conductor and tried to throw him down through that hole onto the tracks.
“Go look for him!!! Click, click, click… hurry up and get down there to look for him!!!”
