Chapter 286

“Miss Gu, congratulations on completing all management tasks in This Plane.

“If you choose to stay, you will obtain ownership of the Oasis Sanatorium. Eighty percent of the Sanatorium’s Lifespan profits will be settled into your Paradise Card for your personal use.

“If you choose to proceed to the next Dimension, the Oasis Sanatorium will continue operating under its current model, and you will receive a twenty percent share of the Lifespan profits it generates each year.”

The Dimension Jump would take place one month later.

Without the slightest hesitation, Gu Huaiwei chose to continue.

There was nothing in this Dimension worth missing. As she was about to leave, Zhou Chuanning walked out of his room and stood in front of the Ferris Wheel Oil Painting for a long time.

After the Contamination at Gray Crystal University disappeared, rain finally fell over Gray Mist Town. The soft, steady patter landed on the silent town, rendering the already gray world even hazier.

After showering, Gu Huaiwei did not hurry to dry her hair. Her damp black hair, slightly curled like seaweed, hung obediently down her back. A few strands clung to her pale collarbone, sliding slowly along her skin with traces of lingering moisture.

Wrapped in a loose robe, she stepped barefoot across the cold floor and walked to the bay window, leaning casually against the frame.

On this rainy night, the Sanatorium sank into a blur of gray. The garden lights glowed dimly yellow, their light scattered by the curtain of rain into damp halos.

Gu Huaiwei liked nights like this. She liked sitting on the bay window, listening to the rain outside and looking at the garden blurred by mist and water.

She gazed quietly out the window, the faintly swaying lights reflected in her eyes.

Lin She and Mu Lanwo both liked rainy days.

He Xueyi and Bai Miemie preferred sunny weather.

At that moment, Mu Lanwo was leaning against a tree in the courtyard, deliberately letting the rain soak her clothes. The moist air nourished her, keeping her skin supple.

She was slow to notice Gu Huaiwei’s gaze.

Lin She, meanwhile, stood not far from Gu Huaiwei, a cloak in his hands.

He always paid more attention to Gu Huaiwei than anyone else.

“Miss Gu, it’s late,” Lin She said. He was like a pool of silent black water beneath a lone midnight star, soundless and still.

Her fingertips absently twined around a strand of black hair. “Go get some rest first. I’ll sit by the window a little longer.”

In the hall, the third light in the Ferris Wheel Oil Painting lit up.

The more lights Gu Huaiwei illuminated, the more seriously the Assistants regarded her.

Lin She did not leave. He stepped forward a few paces, set the cloak by the windowsill, and asked, “Should we hold a celebration banquet? Like before.”

It was rare for Lin She to be in such a mood, but Gu Huaiwei shook her head. “Someone hanged herself in the Sanatorium. Cancel the celebration banquet.”

Lin She said nothing more. However long Gu Huaiwei sat by the window, he waited beside her for just as long.

He was a somewhat stubborn person.

Even when told to go rest, he still stayed there with her.

Only after the rain stopped and Gu Huaiwei returned to her room did he finally leave.

When Xia Wenxin learned that Bai Yuzhen had hanged herself, she did not cry. She asked Gu Huaiwei for three days off, then used Lifespan to buy a case of beer.

She put the class graduation photo up in her room. On the first day of the Lunar New Year, she set out a cup of beer for each of her classmates, then opened a bottle for herself.

She had always been optimistic.

“Class Monitor, study committee member, Happy New Year!”

“I’m the youngest among all of you. You’ve always taken such good care of me. After this year, we’ll all be the same age.”

“Mr. He told me that people have souls. If souls really do exist, then I hope you won’t worry too much about me alone. I cherish my life very much. I’ll keep living well, carrying your share too, and live on in this world full of Contamination until the very last moment.”
After saying that, Xia Wenxin tipped her head back and drained the beer in her hand in one gulp.

Gu Huaiwei was busy making arrangements for the Oasis Sanatorium’s operations after she left.

She had only one final Rule left to write.

“All staff of the Oasis Sanatorium must obey the employee code, remain at their posts and carry out their duties conscientiously, voluntarily safeguard the Sanatorium’s interests, and ensure the healthy operation of the Sanatorium.”

Gu Huaiwei burned all the Lifespan Yellow Paper she had obtained from this Dimension for herself.

These three Dimensions had given her money, youth, and lifespan respectively.

Now, she had enough time to go look for her sister.

Xiling You noticed that Gu Huaiwei was preparing to leave, so she spent a long time searching the Sanatorium for the inter-Dimension passage. Especially earlier, when Gu Huaiwei had brought many things in from the Real World, Xiling You had followed her countless times, yet still couldn’t find the entrance to the passage.

At first, she was still proceeding at her own pace.

She took out the spatial detector, an Anomaly Artifact she had obtained in this world, and used it to explore the spatial fluctuations inside the Sanatorium.

But Xiling You discovered that no Artifact was of any use in the Sanatorium, and her expression darkened as she began looking for other methods.

Gu Huaiwei was on her way to water the greenhouse when she saw Zhou Chuanning and Xiling You in each other’s arms. The two were acting intimately. Zhou Chuanning helped Xiling You remove a fallen leaf from her forehead, then tucked the stray hair by her cheek behind her ear.

The Half-finished Product was nothing more than a grotesque hodgepodge of human body parts wearing Zhou Chuanning’s Skin Suit.

Xiling You didn’t know Zhou Chuanning’s true face. She buried her face in his chest, and in a gentle voice utterly unlike her usual self, said, “There are two men around her. If you have one more woman, that would be fair.”

Zhou Chuanning stroked Xiling You. “Those aren’t her men. They’re her Assistants.”

“Close enough, aren’t they? Do you really believe that after living under the same roof for so long, they’re still innocent?” Xiling You pressed her face against his palm, trying to tug at Zhou Chuanning’s heartstrings. “If I remember right, the one who’s always pursued her is you, isn’t it? She can’t see how good you are, but I can. Take me with you when you leave. I don’t want a title. I just want to stay by your side.”

After hearing that, Gu Huaiwei quietly stepped back and hid off to the side to watch the gossip unfold.

She had long known that Xiling You had stayed behind with ulterior motives.

But because Xiling You posed no threat to her, Gu Huaiwei had never paid her much attention.

Zhou Chuanning’s long, slender fingers slipped into her beautiful hair and gently combed downward, while his other hand rested at her waist.

He pressed his chin to the top of her head and inhaled the youthful scent on her.

Where Xiling You couldn’t see, his features were unstable, shifting and twitching.

“Fine, I’ll take you with me,” he said in a low, seductive voice.

“Really?” Xiling You’s eyes shone as she looked up at Zhou Chuanning with admiration.

Zhou Chuanning lowered his gaze to her. “Of course. Come to my room tonight.”

Xiling You’s cheeks gradually flushed red. It took a long while before she made a tiny sound, soft as a mosquito’s buzz, and gave an almost inaudible hum of agreement.

Those two were both incredibly good at putting on an act.

After Zhou Chuanning left, the shy look on Xiling You’s face vanished instantly, and the corners of her lips curled up in a smug smile.
