Chapter 289

The new Dimension was in the Dharma-Ending Age of cultivation. Spiritual energy was exceptionally thin, and in nearly ten thousand years, not a single cultivator had ascended to immortality. In this world, Gu Huaiwei ran Oasis Manor, accepted disciples, and built up the sect.

The reward she received was spiritual energy.

Gu Huaiwei met that Old Lady who gave directions again.

The first disciple the Old Lady had brought her died in a conflict.

She no longer remembered that disciple’s face.

She had forgotten his name as well.

All she remembered was him kneeling on one knee before her as she stroked the top of his head with her hand. His hair had been exceptionally soft, and his eyes exceptionally gentle.

He had been a good disciple, one who had brought her a great deal of joy.

Even after Gu Huaiwei told him that she would definitely leave in the end, he still devoted himself wholeheartedly to serving at her side.

He once had a chance to ascend.

Among Gu Huaiwei’s management tasks was one that required her to help a disciple ascend.

But her youngest disciple still chose to stay.

He said, “If Master does not leave, then I will not leave either. If becoming an immortal means going far away from Master, then I would rather remain a mortal and serve by Master’s side forever.”

He died in Gu Huaiwei’s arms. Gu Huaiwei avenged him, but she had no way to bring him back to life.

Gu Huaiwei no longer remembered how she had felt when she held his corpse then. Perhaps too much time had passed. She should have been heartbroken, but little by little, she forgot that feeling.

Time was truly powerful.

Powerful enough to calm even the wildest storm.

Gu Huaiwei spent an exceptionally long time in this cultivation Dimension. Every task there was measured in spans of decades or centuries.

She was very glad she had gained enough Lifespan in the previous Dimension. Otherwise, she would have died of old age in this Dimension before ever leaving it.

And in this Dimension, Gu Huaiwei also met someone who had known her sister.

The person who had given her sister the Jade Bracelet.

Because he was connected to her sister, Gu Huaiwei remembered his name. He was called Xu Sanyuan, a Taoist priest with an immortal air and a sage’s poise.

Xu Sanyuan had remained behind to guard the sect her sister founded, and by now he had become the grandmaster of that sect.

He was the one who came to her first.

That day, he stood upon the clouds with an ancient sword strapped to his back. Dressed in white, pure as snow, with wide sleeves drifting lightly in the wind, he looked like a streak of moonlight fallen into the mortal world.

Because of that Jade Bracelet, he left seclusion early and paid a visit in person, boosting the reputation of the still-obscure Oasis Manor along with it.

Inside Oasis Manor, the river of stars hung inverted as if descending into the sea, ripples glittering like scattered silver cast across the earth.

On the Go board, black and white stones interwove, killing intent hidden beneath the surface.

Gu Huaiwei held a black stone and set it down lightly. The crisp click echoed through the silent courtyard.

Across from her, Xu Sanyuan sat straight and still as a pine, his gaze fixed on the board as though trying to read her heart through the game.

“I know who you are,” he said, his voice low and tinged with hazy remembrance. “You are her younger sister. She left me because of you.”

A cool breeze stirred, rustling the bamboo leaves. Xu Sanyuan’s eyes shifted slightly, and across the long passage of years, he seemed to see in Gu Huaiwei the graceful figure that had long since drifted away.

“All these years, your sister’s fate star has never fallen,” he said softly, his fingertips slowly brushing over the white stones on the board. “So I stayed at the place where we first met, waiting for the day we would meet again.”

Gu Huaiwei lifted her wrist slightly, her fingertips touching that smooth Jade Bracelet. Its coolness seeped into her skin, as if it still held the lingering warmth of her sister.

Xu Sanyuan had known Gu Changge far too well, so Gu Huaiwei simply dropped the disguise and met his gaze head-on.

“My sister never mentioned you to me.”

An indescribable bitterness touched the corners of Xu Sanyuan’s lips.

He fell silent, as if he wanted to say something, but in the end, he said nothing.
“But…” The Jade Bracelet refracted a deep green sheen under the daylight, and her voice was light. “Every time my sister looked at this bracelet, she would always show an expression of intense attachment.”

Xu Sanyuan’s fingertips trembled slightly on the chess piece. “She always wore that bracelet.”

“Mm. Until my sister disappeared, she never let the Jade Bracelet leave her person.”

“Those who cultivate immortality gradually forget the seven emotions and six desires.” His voice was calm as still water, yet it couldn’t conceal the emotion buried deep within. “When Sister Changge first arrived in this world, she was only a mortal with no cultivation at all. But she was colder and more detached than any cultivator in existence.”

He slowly closed his eyes, as if recalling the past, or perhaps sighing.

“She and I cultivated together for a hundred years. We built up our sect together and made it flourish. She got what she wanted, yet the moment she chose to leave, she left without hesitation and abandoned me completely.” The black and white stones on the board were still locked in battle, but the game had long since ceased to matter.

Staring at the chessboard, Xu Sanyuan murmured, “She said she didn’t belong to this world. I believed her. I only hoped she would stay a little longer for my sake, but she wasn’t willing to spare me even that much time.”

He should have hated her.

Hated how decisively she had left.

Looking at Xu Sanyuan, Gu Huaiwei suddenly remembered the Real World, when Jiang Richen had come looking for her before. She had used her sister to humiliate him, telling him he was fickle and unworthy of her sister.

At the time, Jiang Richen had suddenly flown into a rage. Like a furious trapped beast, he had shouted at Gu Huaiwei, “You think your sister was innocent? You think what she did was legitimate business? Your sister betrayed me too, and I was magnanimous enough to forgive her! That damned Jade Bracelet on your wrist is proof! You sisters both treat me like I’m the villain, but the truth is, the two of you were the ones who hurt me together!”

“Daoist Xu…” Gu Huaiwei hesitated for a moment before finally asking, “What exactly was the relationship between you and my sister?”

“We cultivated together… and were also Dao companions.”

The wind stirred through the courtyard again.

Gu Huaiwei fell silent.

So her sister really had once fallen for someone from a small Dimension.

She had even promised Xu Sanyuan that once everything was done, she would come back to find him.

Because of her sister, Xu Sanyuan had also become Gu Huaiwei’s closest friend.

Later, when Xu Sanyuan’s sect was invaded by demonic cultivators and faced total destruction, Gu Huaiwei stepped in to help.

She did it not only to protect Xu Sanyuan, but also to preserve the legacy her sister had built.

Gu Huaiwei absorbed the spiritual energy of this world and discovered that the mysterious halos around her body were actually spiritual energy naturally gathering around her.

And her original cancer had also been brought under control by this world’s medicine, no longer worsening.

Her sister had brought her all the best things.

In the later stages, the management mission for Oasis Manor became extraordinarily difficult to push forward.

Gu Huaiwei’s mission was to lead the disciples into becoming the foremost force of the righteous path, sweep away the demonic cultivators, and completely eradicate the darkness that had entrenched itself for so long.

There was nothing harder than being a champion of justice.

And now, that troublesome enemy stood outside the manor.

The disciples of Blood Flame Palace numbered in the tens of thousands, forming a dense black mass outside Oasis Manor. Their killing aura soared into the sky, demonic energy roiled, and it seemed as if they meant to devour this land whole.

The Blood Flame Palace Master-the man Xu Sanyuan had spoken of, the one who had countless ties to her sister-had finally appeared today.

He stood before the army of demonic cultivators, his long hair half bound and half loose, black as ink. His brows and eyes were so sharp they were hard to look at directly, and he carried the arrogance of someone standing above all others.

“Since you were born with that face, then pay that woman’s debt in her place.” The man was tall and lean, his black robes shot through with crimson swirling around him. He stepped forward slowly, raised his long sword toward Gu Huaiwei, and looked at her with frivolous disdain.
