Even a Tentacle Monster Cries When His Wife Leaves - Chapter 2
I slept until eight the next morning.
Yan Shu had already got up to make breakfast.
I dawdled for another ten minutes before slowly putting on my shoes and heading downstairs.
As I passed the study, I noticed the door was ajar.
Yan Shu stood by the window, a dark mood hanging over him, his brows drawn tight.
“So she really did deceive me?”
I froze on the spot.
Then another voice rang out, full of indignation.
“Yes, male lead! You’ve been deceived!”
“According to the plot, the female lead was supposed to rescue you after you lost your memory. Then the two of you would form an emotional connection and eventually get your happily-ever-after.”
“But Xu Yangyang, a cannon-fodder supporting character, got to you first! She even lied about being your wife. Shameless!”
My fingers slowly tightened around the stair railing.
Yan Shu stood there quietly. Morning light divided his profile into light and shadow, obscuring his expression.
The system sighed deeply.
“Male lead, I’m here to help you.”
“The plot is a complete mess now. If you want to fix it, there’s only one way.”
Yan Shu slowly raised his eyes. “What is it?”
The system enunciated every word.
“Eliminate the cannon-fodder supporting character.”
Everything went quiet.
The system cleared its throat and continued.
“Male lead, I know you’ve always wanted a strong, intelligent, independent heroine as your partner.”
“So there’s no way you could fall for a weak, useless supporting character who lies through her teeth.”
“Right?”
Yan Shu didn’t answer immediately.
Warm sunlight rested on his shoulders, yet he looked so cold.
Then he spoke, as calmly as if he were discussing the weather.
“In theory, yes.”
The system immediately sounded relieved and began offering suggestions.
“I knew it. You must have been taken in by her lies.”
“Host, with your abilities, snapping that little nobody’s neck without anyone noticing would be no trouble at all.”
“At this point, there’s no more time to hesitate. The female lead is still waiting for you.”
“Rest assured, she’s smart, beautiful, gentle, and strong. She meets every requirement you have for a partner. The two of you are a perfect match.”
After hearing that, Yan Shu fell silent for another long stretch before speaking thoughtfully.
“You’re right. Xu Yangyang is a coward. She only throws her weight around at home. And she’s a liar. I couldn’t possibly love her.”
“Exactly!” said the system.
“She is very clingy. I need my own space, and she doesn’t seem to understand that at all. It often irritates me.”
“Exactly, exactly!”
“She’s always telling me to obey her. She even tries to restrict my freedom. Does she think I’m her dog? …I’ve had enough of her for a long time.”
The system agreed frantically. “Yes, yes, yes!”
“I should be very happy once we split up…”
At that, Yan Shu frowned and fell silent again.
His hand slowly clenched into a fist at his side.
I didn’t dare listen any longer.
Clutching my neck, I bolted downstairs.
Oh, hell.
When I told that lie, I’d known the truth would come out sooner or later.
I’d prepared myself for Yan Shu’s hatred and anger.
What I had never, ever expected was for my life to be on the line.
