Chapter 10

“No, I’m not,” Ruiyin answered, her neck stiff. Standing less than a meter away from someone over two meters tall created the tragic situation of having to tilt her head up at a forty-five-degree angle. For that height alone, Ruiyin had already given the person in front of her negative points.

She took a step back and pointed at the Undead mage behind the Black Knight, who had probably collapsed to the floor from overusing his mana and was now squeaking and shrieking in fury. “That thing… that person is probably your liege.”

The Black Knight fell silent for a moment, then slowly turned his head to look at the Undead mage in the corner.

For some reason, Ruiyin felt an inexplicable reluctance from him.

“Kill her! I am your master!” The Undead mage, who could not even stand, waved the mirror in his hand and roared in rage. “I summoned you with a thousand souls and a relic of Dark God Seres! Me!”

The Black Knight immediately turned back around, placed his right hand over the left side of his chest, and knelt on one knee before Ruiyin. “My liege, shall I kill that lunatic spouting nonsense?”

“…” The Undead mage. Ruiyin.

Amid the shrill cries of a third-rate nobody shouting things like “it’s me, it’s me, it’s really me” and “kill her, kill her, kill her,” Ruiyin gradually realized the truth. Either this guy had something wrong with his head, or he refused to accept reality because of what his true liege looked like. At the moment, the second possibility seemed so likely it made her want to cry.

Of course, she could lie right now and claim she was the summoner, then have him kill the Undead mage and escape. But… something summoned with a forbidden spell really wouldn’t have any side effects after use?

“I’m really not,” she said, taking another step back, her tone extremely sincere. “Although your color palette is a little distorted, you are at least a knight. Publicly cheating in front of your own liege is not a good thing.”

The Black Knight lowered his head and thought for a while. At last, he stood and turned around, walking step by step toward the Undead mage.

“Wonderful! Haha! In the name of Dark God Seres, I command you-” the Undead mage cried out in ecstasy. Completely ignoring the humiliating position he was in while giving orders, he immediately began acting like a tyrant.

While he was still tangled up in all kinds of wishes about conquering the world, claiming every beauty under heaven, becoming supreme ruler of the martial world, and so on, Ruiyin rushed over to Lars, who had been sent flying, and struggled to help the young man up. “Hurry! Those two aren’t exactly compatible right now. While they’re still adjusting their settings, we still have a chance to escape. If we wait any longer, it’ll be too late!”

Lars was still trapped in an enormous shock he could not pull himself out of. Even so, he did not hold her back. Bracing one hand and his sword against the ground, he barely managed to stand. But in that brief moment, the Black Knight had already successfully reunited with the Undead mage. The knight, black mist billowing from his entire body as though someone inside him were burning leaves and roasting sweet potatoes, lowered his head before the Undead mage, who had gone limp as a puddle. In that instant, the radiance of true love was so dazzling it made one’s head spin!

No… no way, right?! They adjusted their compatibility that fast? That wasn’t scientific at all!

The knight lowered his noble head before his short liege. He raised the greatsword in his hands level before him, like a lion submitting beneath divine might.

Then the greatsword in his hands came crashing down. With a crack, the Undead mage, who had just been looking up with an excited expression, was instantly beheaded.

Ruiyin and Lars’s jaws both slammed solidly onto the tops of their feet.

Completely unaware that he had just performed a shocking plot twist, the Black Knight calmly put away his greatsword. He picked up the Silver Mirror from the now-dead Undead mage’s hand and strode back over to Ruiyin with ringing steps. Blood was still dripping from the blade. Pale-faced, Lars moved in front of Ruiyin and took a step back, shouting, “What are you trying to do?! If you want to hurt her, you’ll have to go through-”

Before he could finish, he was sent flying again.

Ruiyin silently gazed into the distance at Lars, whose male lead aura had plummeted to rock bottom within two chapters. While inwardly mourning for him with sympathy, she took another step back to put some distance between herself and that miserable height difference.

The knight knelt on one knee before Ruiyin. The Mithril Mirror looked as tiny as a toy in his hands. He bowed his head and lifted it above him with both hands, offering the mirror in the humblest posture possible. “Now, you are my liege.”

…Was this how one confirmed a liege?! Was it? Was it, was it, was it?! If she accepted it and he decided he didn’t like the look of her one day, would he resign and switch employers in the exact same way?!!!
Ruiyin silently swallowed the tearful roar in her heart and suddenly felt that the mirror, which had originally been hers to begin with, had become unbearably hot to handle.

“S-stay away from Ruiyin, you bastard!” Ruiyin, still dazed and unable to pull herself out of it, did not answer. Lars, the Little Knight who had already been swatted away twice, had run back for the third time with unyielding determination. For the third time, he struck a protective stance, stretching both hands out in front of Ruiyin. Even though his entire body was trembling like a sieve, he still forced himself to bravely lift his head and stare at the person behind the black helmet.

“You… you’re one of the Demons, aren’t you?” The Black Knight’s figure was clearly reflected in his bright, clear green eyes. “A Demon who can only be summoned through a contract made by the most evil means. You shouldn’t exist here! Whoever signed a contract with you is destined to fall into the Abyss of the God of Darkness for life. Ruiyin will never agree to this! I… I won’t allow you to hurt her either. This time, even if I have to risk my life, I absolutely… absolutely won’t let you get near her! She’s a good person, a good person!!!”

Even though he was shaking all over, he did not retreat a single step. The Little Knight stomped his foot, bristled, and roared, and at the end of the universe echoed his strongest cry of “good person, good person, you’re a good person” again and again. Not only did it make the Black Knight, who could have watched Mount Tai collapse before him without changing expression, raise his head, even Ruiyin drew in a deep breath and looked over, moved.

“Shut up! Call me a good person one more time, and I’ll swat you all the way to the God of Darkness!”

The shocked, wounded boy, tears pooling in both eyes, wilted in silence.

Because he had received no response for a long while, the Black Knight respectfully placed the mirror in his hand on the ground before Ruiyin. He bowed his head until it touched the floor, his hard, cold voice like iron striking frost. “Since my liege no longer requires me, please allow me to take my leave first. In the name of Seres, Mordova offers you his loyalty here. May darkness be with you.”

His figure, kneeling on one knee, gradually blurred as the echoes of his words scattered. Just as when he had arrived, the Black Knight’s form slowly dissolved into a hazy mass of black fog and vanished. The pitch-black mirror lying flat on the floor rippled with spiraling waves like the surface of water, and in the end, returned to its original blue mirror surface.

Everything became calm again. Even the battle cries of the Orcs seemed to have grown distant. Blood-red sunset light streamed into the room through the narrow Gothic windows. In the center of the room lay the separated head and body of the Undead mage, along with a pile of black ash. If not for their presence, this blood-colored dusk would have seemed as though nothing had happened at all.

Lars and Ruiyin remained in their original positions. Neither of them moved. After a long while, Ruiyin finally walked forward slowly and picked up the mirror from the ground.

“Don’t start telling me about Demons or the God of Darkness.” Lars, his face full of disapproval, had not even opened his mouth before Ruiyin cut him off with a dark expression. She shoved the mirror deep into her pocket. “I don’t care what its background is or what divine artifact it is. This is my thing, and I’ll find my own way to deal with it!”

Wasn’t it just some charlatan archmage? If she strangled this easy-to-deal-with Lars in front of her, she guaranteed every problem would stop being a problem!

Lars sniffled in grievance. He had just opened his mouth to say something when the wall behind Ruiyin was struck by something with a thunderous boom and smashed into ruins. Amid the flying dust, a figure that was no longer bright and silver made his entrance once more, accompanied by that unmistakable, half-sobbing, exasperated, miserable voice.

“What is this place?! Where is the city gate, and why still can’t I get out?! Waaah, there are more and more Orcs, and you… why do all of you have to follow me!!!”

His head of green hair had long since turned into the camouflage weeds atop a field soldier’s head. Covered in wounds large and small, followed by more than ten Orcs, and with all kinds of bawling brats hanging all over him, the young man appeared between the two people in the frozen atmosphere with his face covered in dust and blood, snot and tears streaming down together.

The Silver Knight Galahad, who had spent two consecutive chapters [offline], made his grand entrance with his long-lost and increasingly intense aura of misery.

“Huh? Ruiyin? Lars? Why is it you again? G-great! Hurry and save me! Without you, I really can’t get out, waaah…”

The slow-witted Silver Knight did not notice the stiff, frozen atmosphere between the two of them at all. With a body full of bawling brats, he lunged toward Ruiyin, only to forcefully reverse direction halfway there after recalling certain painful memories, and successfully flattened one Lars instead.
