Chapter 39

The purple moon hung directly above the pitch-black forest, nearly full. In less than an hour, it would be time for the Dark Elves’ Moon Festival. This was their most important holiday. The noble Her Majesty the Queen of the Dark Elves would ascend the Tower of the Moon, and beneath the full moon, they would offer up blood and slaughter as sacrifices, praying for the God of Darkness to grant them his divine protection once more. They had never lacked courage, wisdom, or strength. So long as they had a god’s blessing, they could swiftly reclaim the glory they had known before the war.

“…But what does any of that have to do with us?! Isn’t the narrator supposed to speak up for the protagonist’s party?!” Galahad shouted in despair.

With his left hand, he dragged along Vigia, who was still in shock, wiping away tears with one claw and sobbing nonstop. Over his shoulder, he carried Ruiyin, whose curse had flared up and left her completely limp. He was fleeing for his life through the Black Forest with no idea where he was going, while savage Dark Elves chased close behind.

“Vigia!” Tears streaming down his face, he pinched the fleshy ball in his hand as hard as he could. “You still haven’t remembered?!”

“Waaah… hic! Waaah… So scary, so scary! Ruiyin, what’s wrong with you? Beat him up for me, I hate this, waaaah…” Vigia cried for all it was worth, rubbing at its eyes for all it was worth…

Galahad dropped to his knees, tears pouring down his face. “Isn’t transformation supposed to be an instinct of the Dragon Clan? I’m begging you, hurry up and remember, all right? You think you’re the only one who can cry? I can cry too! Wuuuh, waaah, waaaah!”

He had barely fake-wailed twice when a jet-black arrow came whistling through the air, so fast it grazed his hand before burying itself in the ground. Without another word, Galahad hauled up the elderly, weak, women, and children and kept running for his life.

Baozi-face Juvina had parted ways with them the instant they broke out of prison, showing absolutely no regard for the bonds between cellmates. As the only man in the party, Galahad had no choice but to shoulder the responsibility of leading the group! But…

Why had no one told him Ruiyin would also keel over at a time like this? Table flip!

Although Galahad was always bragging about being a Silver Knight who rescued the distressed, aided the helpless, and saved all living beings, when the elderly, weak, women, and children were truly entrusted to him, he finally discovered that a task this monumental was beyond this humble servant…

Ruiyin lay unconscious on his back, her body burning with fever. It was a condition brought on by the sudden flare-up of her curse. Galahad knew she had once been struck in the back by a Dark Elf’s poisoned arrow, but he had not expected it to act up at a time like this.

Galahad lifted his head and surveyed the nearly identical woods around them. The Dark Elves’ city had already been left far behind. A tangled forest of interlaced branches stretched endlessly before them. The shrill cries of carrion owls circled through the trees, yet he still could not find a way out.

“Stop crying, Vigia,” Galahad said softly. He patted the trembling body of the pink ball and said, “Ruiyin is unconscious right now. It’s all up to the two of us!”

“B-but… I can’t do it!” Vigia said, rubbing its swollen red eyes. “I can’t beat them!”

“You’re Dragon Clan, aren’t you? As long as you remember how to transform, we’ll be able to escape!” Galahad clenched his fist encouragingly. “Think about it. If we save the She-Demon’s life this time, she’ll have to listen to whatever we say from now on!”

Ruiyin pounding his back for him, Ruiyin giving him the position of head of the household (?), Ruiyin washing his clothes and scrubbing the floor and earning money for him…

Ruiyin respectfully calling her “Lord Vigia,” Ruiyin rubbing her belly, Ruiyin handing over every treasure she owned for her to keep…

What a beautiful reality!

Galahad’s and Vigia’s eyes lit up almost at the exact same time. Vigia lowered its head, bit its finger, and said firmly, “All right! I’ll try to remember!”

The night of the full moon was a blessing to almost every nonhuman race. Fairies, elves, merfolk… and dragons. At this time, each of their powers would reach its peak. Many young dragons of the Dragon Clan broke out of their shells beneath the full moon and learned to fly that very night.

Vigia no longer remembered much from its childhood. It seemed that from the moment it opened its eyes, it had always stayed in that deep underground cavern. It closed its eyes and faced the moon, desperately trying to recall the instincts it had forgotten in some other dimension.

“You can do it! Amazing! Vigia is so incredible!” Galahad waved his arms and legs as he cheered on his family’s dragon. Under the moonlight, Vigia strained its face and held its breath. Its round body trembled nonstop, and then, beneath Galahad’s hopeful gaze, that ball gradually began to change.

Its torso slowly lengthened. Its short little limbs became slender arms and shapely long legs. Its round body swiftly rose and curved into a slim wasp waist and a full, voluptuous chest. Long silver curls began to flutter in the wind. She trembled in pain, and at last, she opened her eyes. A pair of bewitching golden pupils, like the most dazzling jewels, were set into a wild and gorgeous face.

A peerless beauty with a tall, graceful figure, a sexy body, revealing clothes, and sharply sculpted features appeared before Galahad. Her hand rested casually on the greatsword on her back, and her golden eyes looked over coldly.

“…Vigia?” Galahad asked, dumbstruck.

“Mm-hmm.” The peerless beauty gave a cold little hum, deigning to answer him.

“H-how did you turn into this?” Galahad asked stupidly.

“This is what I looked like in the first place.” The beauty who was presumably Vigia turned her head away with proud annoyance, though the smugness in her eyes was not subtle in the least. “Wipe that idiotic look off your face. It’s only a human form. What’s there to be so surprised about?”
Every line radiated the smug delight of someone who had finally gotten the upper hand: “Wahaha, aren’t I amazing? Worship me! Hurry up and praise me!”

Galahad studied the beauty in front of him seriously. Toned thighs. She must be excellent at kicking people. Revealing clothes. They must be easy to move in. A sexy figure. Clearly the result of beating up too many men. A greatsword strapped to her back. One look and he knew it was a weapon made for killing!

Galahad very obligingly clapped in exaggerated admiration. “Amazing, amazing! Vigia, you’re incredible! So what magic are you going to use to deal with those insects?”

“Magic?” Vigia froze for a moment, then shook her head decisively. “No, no, no. I’ve only undone the first seal for now. I still can’t use magic.”

Galahad wilted a little, but quickly rallied. “That’s fine! That sword looks really powerful! How are you going to beat them to death?”

Vigia drew the heavy weapon from her back and gave it two powerful experimental swings through the air. Her movements were graceful, her strength impressive!

Ten seconds later, she was panting, propping herself up with the sword and clutching her waist. “I can’t. I’m so tired…”

Galahad stared blankly at the beauty before him, all wildness and allure. “Then… besides turning into a human, do you have any other skills?”

Vigia hesitated, then tugged at her tight little crop top. Her enormous chest bounced temptingly twice. Blinking with pure innocence, she asked, “Does seduction count?”

“…”

Half a minute later, the great Silver Knight resumed his flight in tears, carrying the frail young girl on his back while dragging along the now even more cumbersome mature beauty…

“Why are you only carrying Ruiyin?” Vigia, forced to be dragged along, muttered unhappily. She pouted and looked at Galahad with wounded eyes. “You were carrying me in your arms just now! Hmph. Humans really are fickle, awful creatures!”

“Shut up!” Galahad said through gritted teeth. “It’s not like I didn’t try. Can you blame me when those two things on your chest keep getting in the way so I can’t get you onto my back?!”

Galahad ran through the forest in near despair. The arrow wound on Ruiyin’s back was giving off an ominous black vapor. In a daze, he thought he heard a faint murmur. “So hot…”

“I’m the one running here!” Galahad said, on the verge of tears. “You haven’t moved at all, so why are you hot?”

“Wait…” Vigia suddenly cried out. “What is Ruiyin carrying on her?”

Galahad stopped. Following Vigia’s astonished gaze, he saw a faint red glow coming from the pouch fastened at Ruiyin’s waist. Galahad leaned closer and discovered that scorching heat was continuously pouring out of that seemingly ordinary pouch.

He tentatively touched the pouch. As if it had grown shy, the fragile red light immediately vanished.

Galahad glanced at Ruiyin. She was still unconscious and unaware of everything. He gave two dry coughs, then made a great show of calling out, “Hey, you don’t mind if I look through your pouch, right? Good. Silence means consent.”

Then he opened the pouch without a moment’s hesitation.

In Galahad’s mind, Ruiyin had never had anything to do with feminine words like “obedient,” “delicate,” or “kind.” This time, she did not disappoint him either. The word “tidy” was also decisively removed from Ruiyin’s definition.

He pulled out a piece of dried meat with a bite taken out of it. Hmm. Many chapters ago, it had been used to tempt Tio, so that fellow must have secretly bitten it.

He pulled out half a piece of hardtack. Wasn’t Tio a carnivore? Why hadn’t even the hardtack been spared?

He pulled out a copy of Complete Collection of Spells. After tearing off the book cover, he discovered it was actually a Childcare Manual.

He pulled out a baby bottle. It was inlaid all over with gold and gemstones, and written on it in terrible handwriting were the words: “For Lord Vigia’s exclusive use. I’m only lending it to you for now, okay? Hmph.”

Galahad felt he no longer dared imagine what the next item would be…

At the risk of having his entire worldview destroyed, he emptied everything out of the pouch. Finally, in the very bottom corner, he found a thin parchment booklet. On the yellowed pages, strange ink marks were shifting on their own. In the instant he looked at it, the final words on the page, “Sword of Shadow,” had already vanished, and new letters were slowly taking shape in the flowing ink.

“Sea of Roses,” “dragon,” “Sword of Shadow.”

As those familiar phrases flashed through Galahad’s mind, he finally realized what this important plot item, long forgotten by everyone, actually was. The expression on his face rapidly shifted from surprise to sudden understanding, then settled into unbelievable joy.

“What is that?” Vigia asked, puzzled, as she watched Galahad’s face change wildly in the span of a single second.

“I think we have a way out…” Galahad turned to Vigia, his face wearing an expression that looked ready to burst into ecstatic celebration. “Vigia, this is the Oracle! Do you know that? This is what helped us find you. This is what told us where the Sword of Shadow was. Now the Oracle is glowing, so doesn’t that mean… it’s about to tell us how to escape?”
