Chapter 1

After I died, my consciousness did not fade away.

Instead, I was trapped inside this underground palace built for me.

When the underground palace was opened once more, time within it began to flow again.

“We’ve finally found the tomb of the First Demon Empress of Great Yin!”

Archaeologists poured in by the dozens, carrying cameras and livestreaming the underground palace.

Hearing that familiar accent left me dazed.

It had been so, so long since I had heard Mandarin.

“Xiao Zhao, record this. October 27, 3024 AD. The archaeological team has finally discovered the underground palace of the First Demon Empress of Great Yin, which vanished more than three thousand years ago. At those words, my thoughts fell into disarray.

The year 3024 AD! Before I transmigrated, it had been 3010 AD.

I wondered if I could get any news about my parents from them.

Xiao Zhao’s voice drew my thoughts far into the past.

I remembered that incident too.

But that was not what happened.

There had not been one hundred thousand people. Only three hundred.

And they had not been civilians burned alive.

That year, a plague broke out in Li City, and the number of dead grew by the day. To prevent the virus from spreading a second time,

I had no choice but to order the bodies of the deceased to be taken away and cremated together.

But in those days, people believed the dead should be treated as if they were still alive. To burn a body was tantamount to severing the deceased’s next life.

Even now, it felt as though the furious cries of the people in the city and the flames filling the sky were still before my eyes.

They cursed me. “Lu Zhao, you are nothing but a femme fatale who brings calamity. You will die a horrible death. Heaven will punish you!”
