Feed Me, Husband - Chapter 61
Chapter 61
After the parade, it was time for lunch.
Fortunately, the crowds weren’t too bad, and the restaurants in the park didn’t require a long wait. Gu Xiaonuan expressed that she was fine with anything, and Lu Yichen had no objections either.
The four of them eventually walked into one of the park’s restaurants, ordered four set meals, and sat down.
“Editor Gu, this turkey leg is supposed to be really good according to the reviews. Do you want a piece?” Xiao Wu cut off a slice of meat. “It’s actually quite tasty, not bad at all.”
Gu Xiaonuan nodded with a smile, took the meat, and popped it straight into her mouth. She chewed a few times and swallowed.
“How is it, Editor Gu?”
“Mm, it’s good.”
Gu Xiaonuan lowered her head to eat the food on her own plate, her expression neutral. Xiao Wu gave a somewhat awkward smile and silently went back to eating her turkey leg.
Before long, Gu Xiaonuan finished her meal, leaving nothing behind.
“You have a good appetite, Editor Gu,” Xiao Wu remarked with a smile. She had eaten incredibly fast; though her movements were elegant enough, it was almost as if she hadn’t chewed at all. Wouldn’t that cause indigestion?
Once Gu Xiaonuan finished and sat back, Xiao Wu, who was sitting across from her, quickly pulled out a tablet. “Editor Gu, take a look. This is the first chapter of Taohua’s drawings.”
Gu Xiaonuan took the tablet and looked through it carefully, exchanging a few words with Xiao Wu from time to time.
Lu Yichen sat opposite Gu Xiaonuan, with Taohua sitting beside him. Xiao Wu had already set down her chopsticks and entered work mode with Gu Xiaonuan.
Taohua glanced at Lu Yichen’s set meal. “Teacher Lu, do you not like carrots?”
On his plate, all the carrots had been picked out. Even the tiny diced bits hadn’t been spared, all piled up in a corner.
Lu Yichen gave a hum of affirmation and took a bite of food. He looked up at Gu Xiaonuan sitting across from him; her attention was entirely on the tablet in her hands.
Beneath the table, his foot reached forward slightly. Gu Xiaonuan’s eyes shifted toward him.
Lu Yichen smiled, but just as he was about to say something, her gaze shifted back to the tablet.
Taohua watched Lu Yichen’s profile. When she had first met Teacher Lu, she thought he would be an easy person to get close to because his smile made him feel so accessible.
The overall vibe he gave off was very comfortable-humble, polite, without a hint of arrogance, and… he was a true gentleman who doted on his girlfriend.
Taohua took a bite of her rice. Yet, in certain inexplicable moments, she felt he was very distant, like a wave crashing against the shore.
One moment it was right before your eyes; the next, it receded rapidly, making it impossible to get close.
“I didn’t expect Teacher Lu to be a picky eater too. I’m the same way, though I actually like carrots.”
Lu Yichen turned his head, the corners of his mouth curling up slightly as he looked at her. “Is that so?”
*Why won’t she shut up? So annoying.*
“Yeah, I hate celery the most. My parents have been nagging me about it since I was a kid, but I still hate it.” Taohua tilted her head slightly as she spoke, looking innocent and pure.
“Since you hate carrots so much, Teacher Lu, your parents must nag you about it too.”
Lu Yichen let out a soft chuckle. “No. I spent most of my childhood alone. No one looked after me.” Gu Xiaonuan’s gaze drifted over. Taohua looked a bit embarrassed; it was obvious she was trying to find a topic to talk about but had stepped into a minefield.
“I see… then your parents must have been very busy, working hard for their careers and neglecting their child.”
“They were busy going on dates with their lovers.”
That one sentence made Taohua drop her head completely, and she fell silent.
Lu Yichen raised an eyebrow slightly. Finally, she was quiet.
Xiao Wu, who was discussing copyright with Gu Xiaonuan, felt a sudden chill. She had never seen someone kill a conversation so effectively.
“I never knew Teacher Lu had such an experience. No wonder the characters in your novels all feel a bit different. Do you use yourself as inspiration?”
Xiao Wu gave a nervous laugh. “Clad in darkness, yet yearning for the light-it’s something like that, right?”
Hearing this, Taohua couldn’t help but look up at him. Teacher Lu’s characterizations were indeed compelling; they weren’t purely good people, but one could always find a sense of hope within the darkness.
“Clad in darkness, yearning for the light…”
Gu Xiaonuan murmured the words softly. She saw the smile on the man sitting across from her. It was light and shallow, like a green leaf blown from nowhere on a spring day, swaying and drifting through the air with the wind.
Lu Yichen didn’t say anything. With a smile still lingering on his lips, he lowered his eyes and picked up a piece of meat from his plate, placing it into his mouth.
Longing for the sun?
He didn’t care for it at all.
But this was fine. Letting his little Vampire believe he was that kind of person wasn’t a bad thing.
“That’s why Teacher Lu’s books are so good. Stories centered around someone like that are always captivating,” Taohua murmured, her face flushing a faint red. “If it’s me, I’ll definitely do justice to Teacher Lu’s story.”
Gu Xiaonuan looked at the manga on the tablet, then handed it to Xiao Wu with a slight smile. “Then you shall be the one to pick up the pen. Draw his story.”
“Ah! Really!” Xiao Wu shouted excitedly, clutching the tablet. Other tourists in the restaurant couldn’t help but look over, prompting her to quickly lower her voice. “Editor Gu, you said it yourself. You can’t take it back.”
“We still need to discuss the details of the contract, but she is indeed good. Even though it was only a short chapter, she analyzed the story exquisitely.”
Taohua couldn’t help but look up. She hadn’t expected Gu Xiaonuan to praise her like this. She had already made her feelings blatantly obvious, yet Gu Xiaonuan, as Lu Yichen’s girlfriend, was able to keep her personal and professional lives completely separate.
“Thank you.”
Taohua spoke up, “I will definitely draw it well and live up to Teacher Lu’s novel.”
“That’s a given. Actually, Teacher Lu’s story framework is very easy to analyze. Combined with how brilliant the original story is, we hardly have to change anything. Teacher Lu really is amazing.”
Gu Xiaonuan looked at the pile of carrots on Lu Yichen’s plate. She remembered asking Ji Xiangnan once why he bothered to pretend to eat when everything tasted like wax.
Ji Xiangnan had rolled his eyes at her and thrown a sentence back.
“The moment you discard all human habits is the moment you become a true beast.”
Gu Xiaonuan picked up her spoon and moved all the carrots from Lu Yichen’s plate into her own mouth.
Since he didn’t like them, it was the same if she ate them.
Wasting food was a bad habit, whether one was a human or a vampire.
Lu Yichen watched her cheeks bulge slightly as she chewed. He picked up the last remaining carrot from the plate with his fingers and held it out to her.
Gu Xiaonuan opened her mouth and took the carrot from his fingertips. Her tongue carefully pushed his finger out to prevent her fangs from accidentally piercing him.
As if no one else was there, Lu Yichen brought the finger she had just licked to his lips, his tongue darting out to give it a light swipe. “I still don’t like carrots.”
Xiao Wu’s face turned bright red at the sight. She glanced at Taohua, who was equally flushed, and could only sigh helplessly in her heart. *Give it up, Taohua. There isn’t even a sliver of a chance.*
For the rest of the day’s outing, Xiao Wu was clearly the most excited. Taohua, on the other hand, was just forcing herself to keep up her spirits, somewhat regretting her decision to come along.
When you can’t see them, there’s always room for fantasy. But once you see them together, there isn’t even room for a dream.
“Editor Gu, I booked a park suite where we can see the night light show. We won’t have to wait outside in the night wind,” Xiao Wu said, checking the sky. “Or do you and Teacher Lu want to wander around a bit more?”
“Then we-”
“We’ll wander a bit more. You two go back first,” Lu Yichen said, taking Gu Xiaonuan’s hand. “There are some things I want to buy. Walk with me?”
“Sure, sure! There’s still plenty of time. You two go ahead, Taohua and I will head back first!” Xiao Wu hurriedly pulled Taohua away. Lu Yichen then led Gu Xiaonuan straight into a gift shop.
All sorts of theme park merchandise filled every corner of the store, with many tourists weaving through the aisles.
Gu Xiaonuan followed beside Lu Yichen, watching him pick up various trinkets. He even placed a fluffy headband on her head.
He seemed immersed in a strange sense of joy. “Xiaonuan, should we buy a matching pair of toothbrush holders?”
“And this, couple’s mugs.”
“Matching T-shirts are a must. Keychains are nice, too.”
Gu Xiaonuan looked at the growing pile of items in his hands and spoke in a low voice, “Why are you so obsessed with matching sets? You’re buying too much.”
“Alright then, how about we just get the keychains?” Lu Yichen stood up, leaning his handsome face in to press a soft kiss against her cheek. “Aren’t matching items good? People will know we’re a couple at a glance.”
“But other people will buy them too. They aren’t unique.”
The man holding the keychains froze for a moment. He reached out and pulled her gently into his arms.
“I’ll find a way to make them unique.”
