Chapter 62

That evening, Gu Xiaonuan stood by the window, watching the theme park’s light show in the distance.

It was brilliant and spectacular.

The astonished cheers and gasps of the crowds gathered in the park drifted over clearly.

As night fell, a crimson hue quietly bled into Gu Xiaonuan’s eyes as she watched the huddling masses.

Vibrant humans always loved to gather together, sharing in each other’s joys and sorrows.

Turning her head slightly, she saw Lu Yichen sitting at the table. He was holding the cross she had told him to keep on him at all times, scratching away at two keychains.

Gu Xiaonuan stared at the cross in his hand. Was the tip a bit too sharp?

“What are you do-” Just as Gu Xiaonuan spoke, he looked up, his forehead beaded with sweat. He smiled at her. “I’m finished.”

Both keychains now featured a small silver disc. The front bore the theme park’s logo, while the back had been engraved by Lu Yichen using the tip of the cross.

One featured a pair of small fangs.

The other was a chain.

Gu Xiaonuan looked at the chain, somewhat puzzled. “The fangs are me, but why are you a chain?”

His fingers reached out to the spot where her Cross Mark was located, stroking it gently. “I’ve seen the mark here before. There’s a chain on it.”

Lu Yichen gave a soft laugh. “I like it very much.”

As his fingertips traced the area, the Cross Mark slowly surfaced from beneath her fair skin. The chain entwined around the Cross Mark seemed to come alive, binding the mark tightly.

“This mark is truly beautiful.”

“When did you see it?” Gu Xiaonuan took a step back, dodging his fingers. Given the chaos of their first meeting, he shouldn’t have been able to see it.

“It appears occasionally when you bite me.” Lu Yichen tapped his own chest. “What does its appearance mean? Does my blood satisfy you that much?”

Gu Xiaonuan averted her eyes awkwardly. His blood had actually excited her to the point where her mark showed without her even realizing it.

“Is it so exhilarating that you can’t even control it?”

His fingers gently turned her face back toward him. “Is my blood so delicious that you lose track of yourself?”

Gu Xiaonuan grabbed his wrist. “It’s not just me. Your blood is delicious to many vampires.”

“Li is still here. Don’t tempt me.”

The fangs in Gu Xiaonuan’s mouth peeked out slightly. “I don’t want your scent to make him lose control.”

He smiled, his thin lips pressing close as his breath fanned against her cheek. “Whatever you say.” He let her go gently. “I’m going to take a shower.”

Gu Xiaonuan gave a soft hum of affirmation. Her phone buzzed with a message from Ji Xiangnan.

“Li is with me.”

Gu Xiaonuan gripped her phone tightly before finally letting out a sigh of relief. He was finally gone.

Her nerves, which had been taut all day, finally relaxed at that moment. Gu Xiaonuan collapsed onto the soft bed and slowly closed her eyes, listening to the faint sound of crickets outside.

When Lu Yichen came out, he saw Gu Xiaonuan lying by the edge of the bed. She had fallen asleep without even changing her clothes.
With a bath towel wrapped around his waist, he slowly crouched down.

It was rare to see her sleeping so soundly late at night; the appearance of that elder Vampire had kept her on edge all day.

His slightly damp fingers touched her cheek, sliding along the side of her face down to her neck.

“Xiaonuan?”

He called out softly. At the sound of his voice, the small figure lying there unconsciously leaned her cheek into his palm, though she didn’t wake.

Lu Yichen raised his hand and gently shook her a few times. “Wake up. Change your clothes before you go back to sleep.”

Gu Xiaonuan opened her eyes. The crimson in her pupils surged like ocean waves, though a layer of haze clouded the red.

“Take your clothes off.”

Lu Yichen spoke in a low voice as he helped her sit up. Seeing that she still wasn’t moving, he prompted, “Xiaonuan?”

Her cold body leaned directly into his embrace. For vampires, sleep was the second most important thing after feeding.

Modern vampires were already capable of following human sleep cycles; in fact, their required sleep time was much shorter than a human’s, needing only a few hours.

However, those few hours of sleep had to be high quality, or else it would be a form of torture for a vampire.

Ever since Li arrived, she had been in a state of high tension. Their encounter at the park today, in particular, had pulled her taut like a bowstring ready to snap at any moment.

Ji Xiangnan’s message had allowed her to finally relax, and sleep followed immediately.

For the Vampire Clan, such deep sleep was their most dangerous and vulnerable moment.

Gu Xiaonuan looked at Lu Yichen. She knew she shouldn’t fall into a deep sleep while away from home, but the person beside her now was Lu Yichen.

Because it was him, she could.

His large, gentle hands unbuttoned her clothes. “Lift your arms.”

Gu Xiaonuan felt her arms being lifted as her outer clothes were removed.

*Snap.*

The clasp of her undergarment was undone. The thin straps slid off Gu Xiaonuan’s shoulders, and the fabric fell to her knees.

A large piece of clothing was pulled over her head. Gu Xiaonuan took a deep breath; it smelled of Lu Yichen.

“Stand up, Xiaonuan.”

His voice brushed past her ear like a breeze.

Gu Xiaonuan stood up, her body leaning against him as if refusing to leave. She heard a soft chuckle as a warm palm moved to her waist to finish undressing her.

Finally, wearing only the oversized shirt, she was picked up and gently placed on the bed.

Lu Yichen lay down, and Gu Xiaonuan curled into his arms like a bird returning to its nest.

He picked up his phone and saw an unread message.

“He came to find me.”

The message was only a few words, but it made the corners of Lu Yichen’s mouth curl upward. A moment later, another message arrived.

“Are you really going to do this?”

Lu Yichen chuckled softly. His fingers tapped out a few words and sent them. Shortly after, one last message came back.

“Understood. You’re a madman.”

Putting his phone away, Lu Yichen looked at Gu Xiaonuan’s sleeping face in his arms and held her tighter.

To have you, I will stop at nothing.
