Feed Me, Husband - Chapter 70
Chapter 70
Inside the elevator, Gu Xiaonuan stood to one side clutching her package while Lu Yichen stood on the other, trailing two suitcases.
“I really didn’t expect Teacher Gu to live here too. What a coincidence.” He looked at her. “Teacher Gu… you look much younger dressed like this than you do at school.”
“Do I?” Gu Xiaonuan replied flatly. Ever since that day five years ago, she no longer had the heart to pretend to be social.
“At least ten years younger. If you took off those glasses… it would probably be even better?” Lu Yichen spoke softly, and Gu Xiaonuan lowered her eyes.
The elevator doors opened. Gu Xiaonuan walked out, hearing the sound of him pulling his suitcases behind her.
What a coincidence, living on the same floor?
“There were some issues with the graduate dormitory assignments, so I applied to live off-campus. I chose a neighborhood that wasn’t too far from school.” Lu Yichen walked behind Gu Xiaonuan with his luggage as they both turned a corner.
Gu Xiaonuan stopped in front of No. 01, while Lu Yichen stood before No. 02.
“Teacher Gu, we’re actually neighbors!” A low chuckle escaped the handsome young man. “Could this be too much of a coincidence?”
“It is indeed quite a coincidence.” Gu Xiaonuan watched as he opened his door and dragged his two suitcases inside.
“Teacher Gu, I’ll get settled first. I’ll treat you to dinner another day.”
A well-shaped hand waved, and the door closed in front of Gu Xiaonuan.
Gu Xiaonuan raised an eyebrow slightly; coincidences weren’t unheard of. She pushed open her door and entered her room, opening the multi-layered package that still radiated a chill.
Nestled among numerous ice packs were two bags of a vivid crimson color. Gu Xiaonuan took them out, tore one open, and sucked the blood inside into her mouth.
Gulp, gulp.
She drank with an expressionless face, as if she were drinking tasteless water.
The cold blood surged into her body as she swallowed, washing over an equally cold heart. After finishing one bag, Gu Xiaonuan opened the other and continued drinking.
She was no longer the person she used to be. Lu Yichen’s death had caused the Blood Contract to become permanent and irreversible, leaving her severely wounded.
She had only opened her eyes again after drinking the blood of that 800-year-old elder Vampire.
Thanks to the elder Vampire’s blood, even though the Blood Contract was now permanent, she could endure the insatiable thirst.
Her teeth, as if in rejection, refused to touch any body other than Lu Yichen’s.
She had returned to the days of gnawing on blood bags. Drinking from them merely allowed her to continue living decently, maintaining a reasonably intact human appearance.
The two blood bags were soon drained. Gu Xiaonuan licked the red clean until not a drop remained, then threw the two bags into boiling water. After a moment, the bags dissolved completely in the water.
She turned off the stove and collapsed onto the sofa as if a heavy burden had been lifted.
Knock, knock, knock.
There was a knock at the door. Gu Xiaonuan frowned; she didn’t need to open the door to know who it was just by the heartbeat. “What is it?” She opened the door, only to be met by a wave of steam.
A young Lu Yichen stood there with wet hair, still covered in soap suds. His clothes clung to his body, making him look as if he had just stepped out of a lake.
“Teacher Gu, I’m so sorry, but could I borrow your bathroom? My place… the water was cut off.” The young Lu Yichen flushed. “It seems the landlord didn’t settle the outstanding bills, and I forgot to ask.”
Gu Xiaonuan looked at his bright red earlobes and the foam on his head, then stepped aside to let him in.
“Thank you, Teacher Gu.” Clutching his clothes and a bath towel, the young Lu Yichen walked in cautiously. “Teacher Gu, where’s your family? Are you all alone?”
Gu Xiaonuan pushed open the bathroom door. “Yes. My husband passed away. It’s just me.”
Lu Yichen’s gaze swept over the ring on her ring finger. He lowered his head and walked quickly into the bathroom. “I’m sorry for bringing up a painful memory. I’ll be done soon.”
Gu Xiaonuan gave a soft hum of acknowledgment, turned, and sat on the sofa. Her dark eyes stared at the images on the television screen, seemingly engrossed in whatever was playing.
Soon, the sound of running water drifted out, and Gu Xiaonuan caught the scent of dampness in the air.
She curled her entire body into the sofa. Listening to the intermittent sound of the water, a wave of drowsiness washed over her for reasons she couldn’t explain.
The bathroom door pushed open, and Lu Yichen stepped out. “Teacher Gu, I’ll be heading back now. Thank you.”
Gu Xiaonuan, reclining halfway on the sofa, let out another soft hum.
Her eyes were half-lidded, feeling as though she would fall asleep at any second.
She heard the sound of the door opening and then closing. He must have left.
Gu Xiaonuan surrendered to her exhaustion and sank into the sofa. Her black hair spilled out around her body, completely burying her small face beneath the strands.
The entire room was silent, save for the ticking of the second hand and the noise coming from the television.
Gu Xiaonuan felt herself drift off quickly. She was in a daze, unable to open her eyes.
A pair of hands reached out, gently brushing her black hair aside and removing her glasses.
That perfectly hidden, beautiful little face was revealed. Gu Xiaonuan turned her head slightly, seemingly catching a glimpse of someone standing before her.
She was lifted into a pair of arms with a gentle embrace. This familiar movement was exactly like his.
Almost instinctively, she wrapped her arms around him.
The person holding her let out a soft chuckle, carried her into the bedroom, and placed her on the bed.
Gu Xiaonuan felt herself sink into a world of softness. Behind her, a warm breath drew close.
A warm palm lifted her clothes, slowly reaching inside.
Gu Xiaonuan felt herself being gently manipulated as her clothes were removed.
Scalding fingertips brushed over her waist as if confirming something, finally coming to a rest at her chest.
Gu Xiaonuan’s brow twitched slightly and her eyelashes trembled, caught in the space between dreams and wakefulness.
This familiar embrace and touch made her think she had fallen back into the dream that had haunted her for the past five years.
In countless midnights, she had woken up thinking Lu Yichen was still by her side.
“Xiaonuan.”
His call felt both like a dream and reality, making her body shudder violently.
In her dreams, he called her name just like this.
“Xiaonuan… Xiaonuan…” Light kisses fell upon her. His warm, pleasant scent pressed against her chest as he called her name over and over, causing the fangs hidden in Gu Xiaonuan’s mouth to emerge.
Her cold hands wrapped around his body, searching for the spot on his neck to sink them in.
“Be good, not here yet.”
A hand gently blocked her teeth, guiding her fingers to a certain spot and pressing her teeth down. “Here, bite here.”
*Puchi.*
Fangs pierced through.
Warm blood flowed into Gu Xiaonuan’s mouth. She drank thirstily, and the arms holding her couldn’t help but tighten with a low gasp.
Gu Xiaonuan half-closed her eyes, savoring the blood she swallowed. It was his taste. It was Lu Yichen.
But how was that possible? He was dead. Dead… dead!
Gu Xiaonuan’s eyes snapped open. She realized she had fallen asleep on the sofa at some point. The images on the television were still playing.
She reached up; her glasses were still on her face.
The next second, she rushed into the bathroom. It was filled with the scent of an unfamiliar body wash.
*Click.*
Fangs protruded from her mouth. She even stuck out her tongue, but there wasn’t a single trace of blood on it. Gu Xiaonuan looked at herself in the mirror and curled her lips into a bitter smile.
It was a dream. Just a dream.
