First Glimpse of Light - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
When Senior Brother smiles, the whole world turns upside down.
I was so spooked that I made up an excuse to end our training expedition early, returning to the sect with him while remaining fully on my guard.
Senior Brother seemed a bit confused.
But I wasn’t saying a word.
It wasn’t until we returned to the sect and I saw Master that my heart finally settled.
Behind Senior Brother’s back, I snitched to Master, laying out everything that was wrong with him.
But as I spoke, Master’s expression began to change as well.
Master sized me up from head to toe, his brow furrowing deeper and deeper. His mouth opened and closed as if he had something to say.
Wait, Master, Senior Brother is the one with the problem, not me! Why are you looking at me like that?
In the end, however, Master simply told me to leave and asked me to send Senior Brother in on my way out.
Master, is it really polite to ask the whistleblower to go fetch the accused?
Fortunately, Senior Brother seemed to have anticipated this. He was waiting outside the hall, and when he saw me emerge, he asked, “Did Master call for me?”
Senior Brother was definitely acting weird.
I hadn’t even spoken yet, and he already knew why I was there.
I nodded, and Senior Brother pushed the door open and entered.
Master, please don’t sell me out.
I beg of you.
After handing Senior Brother over to Master, the heavy stone in my heart finally dropped. I happily went off to find my Little Junior Brother.
My Little Junior Brother, Rong Po, was still in his room in secluded meditation.
A barrier had been set up outside the room.
I stared at the barrier for a long moment before tentatively reaching out to touch it. However, I didn’t feel the expected resistance; my hand passed right through.
This barrier… doesn’t block me?
Perhaps the disturbance of me passing through the barrier reached my Little Junior Brother, because by the time I pushed the door open, he was already up.
Upon seeing me, he suddenly broke into a brilliant smile and leaped forward to pull me into a hug. “Senior Sister!”
I pushed him away and looked him over carefully.
He had white hair and two small dragon horns on his forehead. Perhaps because he had just been startled out of his cultivation, his golden pupils hadn’t had time to fade yet, adding a touch of noble elegance to his flawless, handsome features.
But I only noticed that his cultivation level seemed to have improved again.
I sucked in a breath of cold air. “Rong Po, you brat, you didn’t actually break through to Core Formation, did you?”
Little Junior Brother gave a bashful smile. “Just a little bit more to go.”
He blinked at me. “Senior Sister, I’ve become stronger. How about I protect you from now on?”
I clutched my aching chest. “The best way you can protect me is by not getting any stronger.”
One’s own failure is certainly depressing, but a junior brother’s success is even more heartbreaking.
Rong Po patted my head. “I want to protect Senior Sister in the truest sense.”
I slapped his hand away. “Where are your manners?”
I sighed. What else could I do? I picked this junior brother up myself, so of course I have to spoil him.
I pulled out a spirit herb I had obtained from the Frostsky Secret Realm and handed it to him. “Here, for you. It stabilizes the soul-perfect for those with Divine Beast bloodlines.”
He took the herb, his eyes overflowing with joy, and tried to hug me again. I grabbed his hand and said with righteous sternness, “Rong Po, you’re all grown up now. Men and women should maintain a proper distance; you can’t keep clinging to me like you used to.”
His hand froze mid-air, and the smile on his face slowly vanished. For a moment, his gaze looked surprisingly dark and predatory.
I pretended not to see it.
People have to grow up eventually, after all.
