Following Xiao Bai’s instructions, I used magic arts to create a small wooden house and courtyard. I bandaged my Benefactor’s wounds and even fed him three bowls of foot-washing… er, that Xuxu Water.

The next morning, my Benefactor indeed woke up.

“I am Huo Langxing. Thank you, Miss, for saving my life.”

I spoke up to correct him. “It is I who should thank you for saving my life.”

Huo Langxing looked somewhat confused. “When have I ever saved you?”

The next day in the city, Huo Langxing spent all the silver to buy me several sets of clothes.

But Huo Langxing insisted on buying them. “You’re a young lady; don’t go around dressed in drab grays all day.”

The two women behind me muttered a few words, which gave me a fright.

I stood there feeling helpless and lost, but Huo Langxing walked over and took my hand. “Wife, it is my fault for being useless. I’ve only earned this much silver and couldn’t buy you more clothes.”

The women I suspected of being Taoists let out cold snorts. “Young Master, you look like you come from a great clan. You must have been seduced into eloping by this woman.”

“If you ask me, you should go home as soon as possible. A woman like her is only after your silver; she won’t truly live her life with you.”

Hearing this, Huo Langxing smiled even more brightly. “Does my wife like silver? That’s wonderful then. I am an only child; all my family property will be given to my wife in the future. Do you like that, wife?”

Huo Langxing winked at me. I took the hint and nodded. “I like it, I like it!”

Huo Langxing pulled me away, leaving the two women behind, gnashing their teeth in anger.

Only after we had walked a long distance did I breathe a sigh of relief.

Huo Langxing noticed the change in me. “You didn’t do anything wrong, so why were you so flustered?”
