He Said I'm Not a Beta - Chapter 1
Chapter 1
My name is Su Yiqiao, and I am a Beta.
At least for the past twenty-five years, that is what everyone believed.
I have no Gland reactions, no Estrus Period, and I am not affected by any Alpha’s Pheromone.
I have been dealing with Alphas since university. After joining Shengchuan Bio, I worked my way up to become the CEO Assistant.
I have accompanied groups of Alphas-who are naturally high-pressure, ill-tempered, and liable to snap at any moment due to Pheromone fluctuations-through meetings, contract signings, mergers, and acquisitions.
Privately, everyone says that Su Yiqiao is the most useful Beta in the city.
Calm, precise, concise, and flawless.
Like a surgical pen that never veers off course.
And the boss I serve, Shao Chengyan, is the most powerful Alpha in this city.
At twenty-eight, he is the one in control of Shengchuan Bio-a top-tier Alpha with a top-tier face and a top-tier temperament that makes him incredibly difficult to serve.
His Pheromone is Bitter Cedar, and the pressure it carries is intense.
Most of the time, if his expression darkens even slightly, no one in the entire conference room dares to breathe too loud.
Yet, this man-who is practically unstoppable-suffers from an extremely rare condition: Estrus Period Disorder.
When it hits, he loses control, turns volatile, his vision goes red, and even an Inhibitor may not be able to hold him down.
I know about it because three years ago, when he first had an episode during a meeting of the board of directors, I was the one who pulled the Blast Door, evacuated everyone, and then got the doctor and the Inhibitor inside.
From that day on, every record of his susceptibility period, his dosing schedule, his doctor appointments, and even the parameters for the air purification equipment before each meeting have all been arranged by my own hands.
I know every one of his boundaries.
And I understand one thing best of all.
He never allows any Omega to get close to him.
It’s not cleanliness. It’s not dislike. It’s danger.
Inside Shengchuan, there are countless versions of why.
Some say President Shao is allergic to Omegas. Others say that in his youth he went through a vicious induction, and the moment he catches even a slightly sweet Pheromone, he’ll stress-react straight into losing control.
In any case, his surroundings are clean to an almost excessive degree.
The Secretariat is all Betas. If a visiting client includes an Omega, the meeting room even gets moved to another floor in advance.
That evening, as usual, I delivered the revised draft of the overseas acquisition to the CEO’s Office.
The door was locked from the inside. I knocked three times and heard his voice, pressed low: “Come in.”
The instant I pushed the door open, I knew something was wrong.
The office air filters were running at maximum, but Bitter Cedar still saturated the room like a blizzard forced indoors.
Cold. Heavy. Aggressive enough it almost stung my nose.
Shao Chengyan stood with his back to me at the floor-to-ceiling windows. One button at his collar had been yanked open; his knuckles were braced on the sill, veins standing out.
“Put it down. Get out,” he said.
I took two steps. I’d just set the folder on the desk when he suddenly turned around-his eyes frighteningly red.
In that moment, his gaze nailed me in place like a blade.
“Su Yiqiao.” His voice was ragged. “Why do you have an Omega’s Pheromone on you?”
I went rigid. My first thought was that he’d burned his brain out with a fever.
“Impossible. I’m a Beta.”
The next second, he almost completely lost control-striding over and slamming me against the wall.
My back crashed into the bookcase. I let out a muffled groan.
But what was worse was how close he was.
His scorching breath brushed my ear, like it could burn straight through me.
“Don’t move.”
When he said those two words, it sounded like he was ordering me-and like he was desperately ordering himself.
I tried to push him away, only to realize I had barely any strength.
It wasn’t Pheromone suppression. It was a strange, unprecedented softness, rising little by little from deep in my lower abdomen-so unfamiliar it made my scalp prickle with fear.
He lowered his head, his nose brushing the side of my neck.
The next second, it shifted down sharply, as if he were confirming something.
Then he actually bit down on the softest spot on the left side of my lower abdomen.
I sucked in a breath from the pain, my whole body going numb.
“Shao Chengyan!”
He jerked back and released me, as if he’d been burned.
The frenzy in his eyes ebbed, turning into near-shocked confusion.
“You don’t have an external Gland.”
He stared at me. The damp mark his bite left on my skin burned hot.
“But your Pheromone… your Compatibility rate with mine might be 99.9%. Su Yiqiao, leave immediately. While I haven’t completely lost control yet.”
That was the first time he spoke to me without using an order as his tone.
And it was the first time I truly realized-there might be a secret hidden in me, one far bigger than my job.
