“She was saying it to the zombies.”

Everyone sucked in a breath.

Surrounded by layer upon layer of fog, the revelation felt even more sinister.

“Remember the glass building?”

“Chen Lang, Qin Wu—only the three of us went over to investigate. Do you remember what we saw?”

Qin Wu nodded. “Of course. It was packed with zombies, but luckily they were all asleep.”

“What else?” I asked.

“Fog,” Chen Lang said. “It was full of fog, like the inside of a smokestack.”

“Exactly. The fog inside was so dense that it put the zombies directly to sleep.”

“That proves the fog can restrict their movement.”

“And just now, fog appeared the moment we pressed red. When the zombies came out of the container and encountered it, their movements and reactions immediately became slow and dull.”

“The game was deliberately designed to release zombies after we turned on the red light. It was meant to make us think red signaled danger and green signaled safety.”

“But once green is on and the fog no longer restrains them, the zombies can move freely and become extremely aggressive. That is the truly dangerous choice.”

“Red means stop: when red is on, the zombies stop moving. Green means go: when green is on, they keep moving.”

“That is what the female zombie meant.”

When I finished, every player pinched his thigh in silent alarm.

If we had not still been in danger, they would probably have cried out.

“Now I get it!”

“No wonder you said green was a trap!”

“I never imagined that was what the signal lamp did!”

Chen Lang boasted with unconcealed pride, “In the last game, my senior fought nineteen people alone and came from behind to win the championship. He may be useless in a fight, but his brain is razor-sharp!”

I rolled my eyes. I honestly could not tell whether the brat was praising or insulting me.

“Wait. Where did the female zombie go?”

Han Zhong’s sudden question brought me up short.

I hurriedly looked around.

Fog boiled on every side, as though we had fallen into the furnace of some ancient immortal alchemist.

There was no trace of her.

A sense of foreboding rose sharply in me. The trail of clues surrounding the female zombie seemed to have broken off.

Her story could not be over. Too many questions remained.

Why had she been the only person to escape the factory? If she escaped, why had she turned anyway?

How did she know the fog restrained the zombies?

And, most importantly, if she had already turned, why could she still speak? Why had she retained human language?

My instincts told me there was far more to this female zombie than met the eye.

Then our earpieces sounded.
