The door opened!

The funeral hall was too wide and empty to hide in. What was I supposed to do, crawl into my own urn?!

Then it occurred to me that it was probably just the night guard making his rounds. He didn’t know what I looked like, anyway. I reached out and turned my black-and-white memorial portrait facedown so the poor old man wouldn’t get scared to death.

The newcomer staggered in and fumbled on the lights. The sight of him nearly killed me.

Would someone please explain why Pei Jing was here?!

Why had he doubled back?!

Pei Jing was infuriatingly handsome. His upturned eyes fixed straight on me before, with a thud, he collapsed at my feet.

I swallowed. Only then did I catch the reek of alcohol rolling off him.

He’d had a lot to drink.

By all rights, I should have kicked him while he was down—literally—and punched him a few times for good measure.

But who wanted to pick a fight with a drunk…?

I helped him over to the wall and sat him down. Guilt got the better of me, so I poured him some water and held it to his lips.

He was barely conscious, but there was nothing weak about the grip he clamped around my wrist.

He pulled me close. His eyes were red, and when he spoke, his voice floated out so softly it was as though he feared anything louder might blow me away.

“It isn’t the seventh-day mourning rite yet. Why did you come back?”

I pursed my lips and said nothing. It wasn’t like I was actually dead…

When I didn’t answer, he asked in an aggrieved little voice, “Did you come back because there’s someone you couldn’t bear to leave?”

“Because I’m hungry.”

He was clearly wasted. How much had he drunk? At this rate, he’d ruin his stomach.

And his stomach had always been bad…

I sighed, fished his phone out of his pocket, held it up to his face, and pried open one eyelid to unlock it. Then I ordered some medicine.

Afterward, I deleted the payment record and delivery address.

Maybe I’d gotten too close. Pei Jing’s scorching breath washed across my face.

He blinked, struggling for a little clarity. “Hungry?”

He cupped my face and asked again, “You’re hungry?”

I nodded.

If this idiot hadn’t confessed his love to my urn, I wouldn’t be homeless right now!

Then—

Then he kissed me.

One hand locked around the small of my back. For a drunk, he was terrifyingly strong. I couldn’t push him off at all.

“Mmph… mmph!”

My brain blanked for a second. The moment I recovered, I tensed my forearm and slammed it into his chest.

I hit him hard enough to numb my own wrist.

He hadn’t changed out of the maid outfit. The skin exposed by its cutouts was frighteningly hot, and my palm was braced right against his chest.

It felt so good that, in a moment of weakness, I gave it a squeeze.

Pei Jing got annoyed and bit my lower lip. “Pay attention. You shouldn’t get distracted while you’re eating.”

Eating?

Who was eating?

Me?

Pei Jing, was your brain broken? You were the one eating me!

He kept kissing me and crying at the same time. His tears dripped all over my face, salty against my lips.

I couldn’t get him off me, so I had no choice but to let him gnaw away.

He pinned me to the wall. Cold stone at my back, a maid outfit cut open across the chest in front of me, and me sitting on the hem of Pei Jing’s miniskirt—with those cat ears in full view every time I opened my eyes.

He had no technique, only feeling. He sucked my lips numb and still refused to let go.

“Th-that’s enough…”

“Not enough.” Pei Jing looked deadly serious beneath his cat ears. “I have lots of yang energy. You can have it all.”

“Get lost! You get drunk and start lusting after ghosts? What kind of animal are you?”

I covered his mouth with my hand, so he kissed my palm instead. It tickled.

Then his miniskirt shifted.

Oh no.

What a pervert. He wouldn’t even spare a ghost!

Pei Jing refused to release me. He held my waist tight and whispered coaxingly into my ear, “I really do have lots of yang energy. Won’t you feed on me? Don’t go looking for anyone else. You can’t.”

“Don’t worry. Of all the people I could choose, I’d never choose—”

He stopped me by biting my earlobe, hard.

“No. Ah-Xiang has to eat until he’s full—until he’s stuffed—so he won’t look for anyone else!”

I sucked in a breath at the pain. His fingers tightened around my wrist.

“Let go!”

“Touch it. It’s beating for you…”

Touch what?!

I didn’t understand!

I didn’t want to touch it!
