I Met My Online Boyfriend—He Was the Horror Instance Boss - Chapter 2
Still, if he had met plenty of people like me,
then Xie Jue was probably the kind of employer who offered jobs to people with disabilities.
God, how thoughtful.
Once we made our relationship official, he stopped sending me only pictures of Cookie. He started sending pictures of himself too.
God, how hot.
How was I supposed to resist that?
Say no to temptation? More like say *not enough*.
For some reason, though, he only ever photographed his upper body.
After thinking it over for a long time, I tactfully suggested
that maybe he could work his legs occasionally too.
Only once did he vanish for a long time. When he came back, he refused to send me any photos.
Something felt wrong, so for the first time, I video-called him.
That was how I discovered he’d been hurt.
I asked why he was smiling. Didn’t it hurt?
“It does,” he said.
“But something wonderful is about to happen.”
He smiled again and murmured, “Something very, very wonderful.”
Later, when I thought back to that conversation, I asked if the wonderful thing had happened.
Instead of answering as usual, he asked about my hand.
I video-called him and showed off my latest myoelectric prosthesis.
“Cool, right?”
He stared for a long time before finally saying, “Cool.”
For some reason, he sounded as if the word had been ground out through clenched teeth.
Cookie raced around behind him, looking furious too.
Then Xie Jue transferred a huge sum of money to me and told me that was the wonderful thing.
I’d had more than enough of only being able to look at him without touching.
But every time I brought up meeting in person, he found an excuse to put it off.
Not until our fourth anniversary did he finally relent and agree.
Me: [I wish I could meet you and Cookie this very second.]
The next second, my surroundings changed. I found myself standing in an old-fashioned corridor.
Beneath my feet, several dark red and black stains marred the burgundy carpet.
I froze on the spot.
W-Where was I?!
Live comments flew across my vision.
[Another newcomer?]
[She’s screwed if she drew this instance’s boss.]
[Speak of the devil—the boss is right behind her. We’re about to meet the first player to learn their score for this instance.]
My phone buzzed. Xie Jue had sent me a message.
[Baby, turn around.]
He had no idea what hellhole I’d landed in, yet he was still thinking about meeting up!
I burst into tears and sent him a voice message as I ran.
“I’ll talk to you later! Some monster’s chasing me—it’s terrifying!”
Another message came from him. […You think it’s terrifying?]
I’d already said we’d talk later. Why was he still texting me?
I lost my temper and gave him the shortest possible answer. “Obviously!”
Of course it was terrifying when getting caught meant dying. Slow feet, no life!
Perhaps he heard the anger in my voice, because Xie Jue finally stopped replying.
I couldn’t resist glancing back at the supposedly terrifying instance boss.
He was too far away for me to make out much, but I could vaguely see that he didn’t have legs below the waist.
He had tentacles.
Strangely, he didn’t chase after me.
Instead, he remained where he was, looking utterly dejected.
After a moment’s thought, I understood completely.
The duck had flown right out of his mouth. Of course he was disappointed.
