Chapter 2

This gun was the oldest weapon in my warehouse. In an interstellar plane, it would be laughably obsolete.

Even in an ordinary mortal world, it would have long since been phased out.

But in the cultivation world, the sound of the trigger being pulled startled everyone present.

Bang-

Birds scattered in every direction.

Before Su Qinqin could fully react, the bullet had already punched through her left arm. Blood gushed out in a crimson stream.

A tiny scorched hole was left in the protective armor she wore.

The protective armor Master had given her was utterly incapable of withstanding bullets fired at such high velocity.

She stood stunned for a moment. Only after the shock wore off did she let out a pained groan, clutching her arm as she collapsed to the ground, cold sweat pouring down her face.

Below the arena, Eldest Senior Brother, who had been playing dead this whole time, suddenly flew up onto the stage. He gently gathered Su Qinqin half into his arms, anxiously checking her wound. Then he turned back, brow furrowed, and roared at me,

“Ye Qingqing, you actually used a hidden weapon to hurt someone? Kneel down and apologize to Little Junior Sister this instant!”

The overwhelming pressure of a Golden Core powerhouse came crashing down on me. My knees buckled uncontrollably, and with a thud, I dropped to the ground.

The bones throughout my body creaked and groaned, as if they were about to snap under the force.

Through gritted teeth, I forced out,

“So if Junior Sister loses, it’s me using a hidden weapon to hurt her. But if I win, wouldn’t that mean Little Junior Sister used a hidden weapon to hurt me?”

The disgust on Ming Yuan’s face became even more obvious.

“Ye Qingqing, with that pitiful cultivation of yours, who could you possibly defeat? Little Junior Sister only wanted the Jade Lingzhi in your possession, yet you kept making excuses. You don’t have even the slightest bearing of a senior sister.”

The Jade Lingzhi Ming Yuan spoke of was the spirit herb I had gone through untold hardship to retrieve from a bitterly cold land.

I had narrowly escaped death countless times, nearly ending up in a demon beast’s jaws more than once, before finally bringing this spirit herb back to the sect to heal my damaged spiritual root.

In the cultivation world, once one’s spiritual root was damaged, advancing even half a step in cultivation became exceedingly difficult. One was practically reduced to a cripple.

Yet I never expected that the moment I returned to the sect, Little Junior Sister would learn that I had brought back the Jade Lingzhi and immediately start pestering Master for it.

And she only wanted to use the Jade Lingzhi to consolidate her cultivation.

Of course I was unwilling.

According to sect rules, if one was unwilling to hand something over, they could settle it with a match in the arena. The winner would have the right to take a spiritual item from the loser.

Master was so afraid that the Charismatic Little Junior Sister might suffer the slightest mishap that he did not hesitate to take out his own bonded sword to help Little Junior Sister obtain the Jade Lingzhi from me.

Even for today’s match, every disciple in the sect had secretly accused me of being petty. It was only one lingzhi, yet I was unwilling to give it to my own junior sister of the same sect.

I stared into Ming Yuan’s contemptuous eyes and said, each word clear and distinct,

“Eldest Senior Brother, have you forgotten? My spiritual root was injured by a demon beast because I was covering your escape, along with our junior brothers and sisters.”

Half a month ago in a secret realm, Little Junior Sister had accidentally lured over a demon beast. We were no match for it, and just as everyone was about to be buried in its belly,

I, who was only at the Foundation Establishment stage, volunteered to draw the demon beast away so my fellow disciples could survive.

The demon beast chased me for a full day and night, yet not a single fellow disciple came to save me.

At the final moment, I staked everything on taking the demon beast down with me. By sheer luck, I survived, but my dantian was contaminated by the demon beast’s venom, damaging my spiritual root.

For an instant, Ming Yuan looked stunned. But he quickly recovered, and the loathing on his face deepened.

“Ye Qingqing, it was clearly because your cultivation was lacking. Are you trying to blame your damaged spiritual root on your fellow senior and junior disciples now?”

The junior brothers who had escaped death back then all began denouncing me one after another.

“Exactly. You’re the one with low cultivation. You couldn’t even kill a demon beast, and now you want to blame us?”

“Little Junior Sister was the good one. On the way back to the sect, she kept encouraging us and telling us not to be nervous.”

“Little Junior Sister even took out her spirit cranes for us to ride.”

Still kneeling where I was, I let out a cold laugh.

As expected of the Charismatic Little Junior Sister. I had clearly risked my life to lure away the demon beast, yet in my junior brothers’ eyes, the person they relied on most to turn danger into safety was actually the very Little Junior Sister who had lured the demon beast out in the first place.

Perhaps my laugh enraged Ming Yuan. With a look of disgust, he waved his hand at me.

A streak of spiritual energy burst from his fingertips and shot viciously toward my chest.

The pressure of a Golden Core cultivator still pinned me in place. I could not move a muscle.

Watching the scene unfold, the System said with satisfaction,

“That’s the flavor. You’re a stepping stone, trampled on every which way, and when the grand finale comes-ah-”

Noisy!

I swung my hand and slapped the System in my sea of consciousness, sending it flying.

The spiritual energy was forced to stop half a zhang from my chest. A string of character code blocked it, then threw it right back at its original owner.

Before the disgust on Ming Yuan’s face could even turn into terror, he was struck by his own rebounding spiritual energy and sent flying over a dozen zhang away.

Su Qinqin, whom he had been holding in his arms, suffered the same fate and got flung along with him for no reason.

Only after rolling three or five times across the ground did they finally come to a wretched stop.
