I Share the Same Face with a Monster - Chapter 6
Chapter 16
She threw a glass of wine in my face.
I didn’t dodge.
The wine ran down my face.
The private room at the club was very quiet.
Several people from the brands were there.
None of them tried to stop her.
They were watching.
Watching two masks get torn away, wondering which face was worth more.
I raised a hand and wiped my chin.
Su Man said in a low voice, “Xu Zhiyi, stop pretending.”
“Isn’t that face all you have?”
“Without it, what are you?”
All of a sudden, I had no answer.
What was I?
In that instant, I truly didn’t know.
There was a decorative mirror on the wall of the private room.
In the mirror, Zhou Yan stood behind me.
He asked, “Do you want me?”
His voice was soft enough that only I could hear it.
I closed my eyes.
“I do.”
In the mirror, he reached out.
Cold fingertips pressed against my face.
Chapter 17
That night, Zhou Yan didn’t argue on my behalf.
Wearing my face, he walked up to Su Man.
He picked up the wine from the table.
Then slowly poured it over his own head.
Red wine streamed down through my hair, along my neck, over my collarbones.
Everyone froze.
Su Man froze too.
Zhou Yan spoke in my voice. “Look carefully.”
“This face can be wet, dirty, humiliated, and it will still be mine.”
He lifted his eyes and looked at every single person in the room.
“But if you keep staring.”
“I’ll gouge out your eyes.”
It wasn’t exactly a threat.
Because one of the brand managers actually screamed and clapped a hand over his eye.
His eyeball hadn’t fallen out.
But two lines of blood were running from the corners of his eyes.
The room erupted into chaos.
From somewhere deep inside my body, I watched Zhou Yan turn and leave.
His steps were steady.
As if this body, this face, all of it had belonged to him from the very beginning.
Chapter 18
This time, the price was shame.
After I woke up, I realized I could no longer feel ashamed because of wardrobe-malfunction photos, smear posts, or vicious comments.
Sister Lin was so anxious she was nearly losing her mind.
“The club’s surveillance from last night was deleted, but those brand people were all scared out of their wits.”
“Xu Zhiyi, what the hell is going on with you?”
I looked at her.
“They won’t say anything.”
“How do you know?”
Because they were afraid.
I didn’t say that out loud.
No revelations appeared online.
Su Man also went quiet.
It was as if nothing had happened.
But I knew Zhou Yan had crossed a line.
I rushed into the bathroom.
“You almost blinded that man.”
Zhou Yan appeared in the mirror.
“He kept looking at you.”
“I’m a celebrity.”
“So?”
“Being looked at is my job.”
Zhou Yan tilted his head slightly.
“You hated it.”
I paused.
“Hating it doesn’t mean you can hurt people.”
