I Share the Same Face with a Monster - Chapter 8
Chapter 22
Sometimes, honesty is more terrifying than lying.
I didn’t sleep that night.
After daybreak, I locked the bathroom door.
Sister Lin came to see me and said there was an audition for a film.
The director had specifically asked for me.
The role was a female star who went insane from being watched by the entire world.
It sounded like an insult.
It also sounded like it had been waiting for me.
I turned it down.
For the first time, Sister Lin lost her temper with me.
“Xu Zhiyi, snap out of it.”
“This role could finally let you break free from being just a pretty face.”
“You can’t rely on your looks forever.”
I laughed.
“Now that I’m not relying on them, why are you the one panicking?”
Sister Lin had no reply.
She looked at me.
“What on earth has gotten into you lately?”
I said, “I don’t want to lend my face out anymore.”
It sounded like a metaphor.
Only I knew it wasn’t.
Chapter 23
In the end, I still went to the audition.
Not because of Sister Lin.
Because I saw a name on the director list.
Chen Guan.
He was a famous maverick director in the industry.
He was also the man who had pinched my chin seven years ago and said, “This face was born to be looked at.”
I wanted to see him.
The audition was held in an old studio.
The walls were covered with finalized styling photos of actresses.
Every face was beautiful.
And every face looked so much alike.
When Chen Guan saw me, he smiled in satisfaction.
“Zhiyi, long time no see.”
I said, “Director Chen.”
He asked me to perform a scene.
The scene was the heroine destroying herself in front of the camera.
When I got the script, my fingertips went cold.
The first line read:
They loved my face.
So I gave my face to the monster.
Chapter 24
I looked up at Chen Guan.
He was still smiling.
“What is it?”
“Are you uncomfortable?”
I asked, “Who wrote this script?”
“I did.”
“Have you seen the monster?”
Chen Guan’s smile faded a little.
“An actor needs a rich imagination.”
I tightened my grip on the script.
There was a touch-up mirror in the corner of the studio.
I didn’t dare look at it.
But the mirror lit up on its own.
The black cloth hadn’t covered it.
Zhou Yan was standing inside.
He was fainter than last time.
On his blank face, the faint suggestion of features had begun to surface.
They looked like mine.
A chill ran down my back.
Chen Guan followed my gaze to the mirror.
His smile vanished completely.
“So you really did bring it with you.”
I asked, “You know Zhou Yan?”
Chen Guan froze.
“It has a name now?”
