Thinking of everything that had just happened in the bathroom sent a chill through my entire body.

But if he was the boss…

Then my odds of winning were one hundred percent.

At that thought, joy outweighed fear.

I had casually left the iron chain the shopkeeper gave me in the entryway.

I glanced at it but didn’t pick it up.

I would take the gamble.

After all, I had already died once.

It didn’t matter if he was disobedient.

Dogs were never obedient when you first brought them home.

If he wasn’t obedient, I would make him so.

I trimmed Jiang Ge’s hair to his ears. Paired with that face, it made him look clean-cut and handsome.

The moment he left the bathroom, Jiang Ge spotted the room’s only bed.

He strode over and threw himself onto the soft mattress.

I grabbed two corners of the blanket and snapped it, flipping Jiang Ge straight off the bed.

“Your bed is over there.”

Jiang Ge looked displeased.

But when he saw that the pallet on the floor was just as soft as the bed, he stopped dwelling on it.

He touched the fluffy bedding and asked, “Mine?”

“Yes. Yours.”

Something about that evidently delighted him. His expression brightened visibly, and he soon lay down hugging the blanket.

I reached beneath my pillow and confirmed the short blade was in place before closing my eyes.

The room fell silent, and drowsiness swept over me.

Rustling sounds gradually grew louder.

Jiang Ge sat up and shook out his hands and feet.

His limbs felt light without shackles binding them. This person hadn’t restrained him with chains even heavier and colder than the last set, as everyone else had.

Jiang Ge tilted his head toward the figure already fast asleep on the bed.

Stepping softly, he braced both hands on either side of the man and sniffed him carefully.

A distinctive scent.

Jiang Ge didn’t dislike it. On the contrary, he found it interesting.

No one had ever dared give him such freedom of movement.

Back when he had not yet grown strong, they had always used every possible method to force him into submission.

The thought of those sharp, icy instruments made his teeth itch.

He hated being treated that way.

The instruments of torture, the fists and feet that struck him, the drugs they forced down his throat…

Jiang Ge loathed every last one.

But he had disposed of all those people.

As for why he had stayed in that shop… it was merely because Jiang Ge had nowhere else to go.

Originally, he had planned to toss this man to the starving beasts, then return to the shopkeeper’s place and go back to sleep.

Now, however, he had changed his mind.

On the day the tournament began, over a hundred players crowded into the hall to draw numbers.

Among all those beasts, Jiang Ge was the freest.

Nothing restrained him. He moved freely before them.

They kept glancing at him, more or less envy in their eyes.

Jiang Ge was immensely pleased with himself. The corners of his mouth had not dropped once since he entered the hall.

His performance in the arena was outstanding as well.

He moved so quickly that by the time anyone reacted, the match was already decided.

As Jiang Ge left the arena, I immediately showered him with mindless praise and validation.

Jiang Ge truly responded to kindness rather than force.

Just a few gentle words and compliments were enough to send his tail soaring to the sky.

He said nothing, but the corners of his mouth, which he was forcing down, betrayed his current mood.

“It was weak,” Jiang Ge replied casually.

“You’re strong.” I looked toward the arena. “No one else could win as easily as you.”

Jiang Ge lifted his chin even higher. Clearly, he loved hearing that.

Probably because he was the boss, those beasts were incapable of resisting Jiang Ge. As if cowed by his presence, their faces filled with terror and they lost the ability to fight.

I was completely satisfied with Jiang Ge’s abilities, so naturally I didn’t stint on praise or rewards.

Sometimes, I even patted his shoulder or stroked his head to encourage him.

Jiang Ge thoroughly enjoyed the contact. After dispatching his opponent in a few moves, he would run to my side for praise.

I thought things would continue smoothly like this.

But Jiang Ge seemed to develop a few problems.

He had begun pushing his luck.

Jiang Ge demanded that whenever he wanted it, no matter the time, I had to stroke his head. He demanded that I bathe him and let him sleep in the same bed…

I turned a blind eye, treating it all as his reward for winning.

As time passed, Jiang Ge grew increasingly excessive.

Beyond making those demands, he started stealing my clothes.

First my coat and trousers, then even my undershirts…

Whenever I questioned him, he put on an innocent face and played dumb.

But something else was what I found most intolerable.

One night, the sound of Jiang Ge rummaging through my things woke me.

In the darkness, he pulled something out of the wardrobe.

He held it in his hands and examined it, then walked into the bathroom.

I quietly got up and approached the bathroom door.

Low, stifled breathing came through it.

Through the gap left by the door, Jiang Ge’s dazed, flushed face sprang into view.

And what he was holding…

My breath caught. Heat crept up from my collarbones and spread to the tips of my ears.

My foot stumbled, and the force of my shoulder brushing the door pushed it inward.

With a creak, Jiang Ge’s gaze met mine in midair.

My lips parted and closed, but no words came. I simply turned and left, surrendering the entire space to Jiang Ge.

But Jiang Ge took my silence as an invitation.
