Snowy, whom I had left to guard the house, had been waiting by the door.

The moment it opened, he caught the scent of blood and looked up sharply.

When he realized the blood smell came from me, panic seized him. He circled me anxiously, trying to find where I had been hurt.

I hurried to reassure him and revealed the kitten wrapped in my coat.

“I’m not the one who’s hurt. This little kitten is.”

Only then did Snowy calm down.

But once he saw the kitten’s face, a faint flash of surprise crossed his eyes.

“Sorry, Snowy. We probably won’t get hot pot tonight.” I pulled out the household first-aid kit. “Once this little one is stable, Big Sister will cook you some meat, okay?”

The first-aid kit was poorly stocked. I searched with my optical computer for ages, yet could not find a single veterinary hospital.

It struck me as odd, but the kitten was in critical condition. I had to set my doubts aside.

With nowhere else to take it, I performed the emergency treatment myself.

Most of the injuries were on the kitten’s abdomen, where the bleeding was worst. Fortunately, none of its internal organs had ruptured.

After stitching the deepest wounds and administering antibiotics, its condition improved.

Its breathing finally steadied. I exhaled and wiped the cold sweat from my forehead.

Only when I turned to sit down and drink some water did I realize Snowy had stayed beside me the entire time.

Afraid of distracting me, he had not moved an inch.

He was so considerate it made my heart ache.

I quickly hugged him around the neck. “I’m sorry, baby. Big Sister hasn’t even made your dinner yet.”

Not only had he missed the promised celebration, I had nearly let him go hungry.

I felt terribly guilty. After dinner, I pulled the gift I had bought for him out of the shopping bag.

“It isn’t expensive, but it’s cute, right?”

I had bought Snowy a small square blanket patterned with bones.

“Your fur may be thick, baby, but bedtime still deserves a little ceremony.”

Snowy looked at the excessively childish blanket. His furry face remained expressionless, giving no clue whether he liked it.

But when bedtime came, he honestly carried the blanket over to me in his mouth.

After checking that I was properly tucked in, Snowy lay down neatly on his new blanket.

I secretly opened one eye.

Aw. So he did like it.

The kitten woke far sooner than I expected.

I had wrapped it in bandages and secured it to a makeshift bed the night before, afraid it would move and tear its wounds open.

Small as the kitten was, it had somehow bitten through every bandage.

By the time I noticed, the tiny mummy was attempting to escape through the window.

Naturally, I caught it and returned it to bed.

Heaven knew how something the size of a booger had managed to pry open a window.

The captured criminal meowed furiously at me.

I did not speak cat, but the language sounded filthy.

I tried reasoning with it. “Big Sister saved you. You can’t repay kindness with betrayal.”

The kitten wrinkled its nose, turned away, and pointed its backside at me. It had clearly decided its beauty excused all crimes.

Once I wiped the blood from its fur, the kitten’s natural beauty emerged.

It resembled a golden-shaded cat, though its coat was brighter and more radiant.

With golden fur and golden eyes, it looked like a little angel fallen into the mortal world… while possessing the temperament of a tiny demon.

I had never met a more troublesome cat.

It refused to let me inspect its wounds. It fought injections and would not swallow medicine.

The moment it saw a chance, it tried to leap out the window.

I had begun to lose my temper. Then I remembered that such fierce distrust of humans probably meant it had been abused.

My anger vanished.

It was only frightened. What could a cat possibly have done wrong?

“You seem lively enough now, so if you really hate the medicine, you can skip it for the moment,” I conceded helplessly. “But if you start feeling worse, you can’t be this stubborn anymore. Understand?”

Jiaojiao ignored me and kept his backside pointed my way.

Oh, Jiaojiao was the name I had privately given this proud little cat.

Male or female, he would be neutered once he grew up anyway, so what difference did it make?

Jiaojiao abruptly shuddered with his back still turned.

He looked over his shoulder, eyes full of suspicion.

I gave him a flawless smile. “What is it? Have you changed your mind about taking the medicine?”

At the word *medicine*, Jiaojiao whipped his head away.

Hah. Cats.

I hoped he would act just as tough when the time came to have his balls removed.
