I'm Ugly, You're Blind - Chapter 1
1
“Thank you for saving me, miss. I will repay you someday.”
My hand paused around the medicine bowl.
“No need. Once your eyes are better, just leave.”
The man before me, with white cloth covering his eyes, was someone I had carried home three days earlier.
He had been unconscious for all three days. Only now, after he woke, did I learn who he was.
Wei Wuya. The novel’s male lead, destined to rule the world.
I had transmigrated here a few months ago and realized this was a novel I had read.
The only character who seemed to fit my identity was a miraculous healer mentioned in passing.
When that healer refused to obey Wei Wuya, he killed them with a single stroke of his sword.
Three days ago, I had brought this man home because saving a life earned good karma.
And because he was handsome.
It had never occurred to me that he was the male lead.
The bowl suddenly felt hotter in my hands. But I had already saved him. At worst, I would send him away as soon as possible.
I handed him the medicine. Blind and unable to move easily, he could not manage it, so I sat down and fed him.
Afterward, I began preparing the medicine for his eyes.
A gentle voice sounded beside me.
“Miss, why do you live alone in these woods?”
“I’m ugly. Busy streets aren’t for me.”
That was the truth. The original owner of this body had moved here because people kept mocking her.
“And your family?”
I removed the cloth over his eyes and applied the medicine.
“I’m on my own.”
Wei Wuya sat perfectly still. Once I finished, he asked, “When did you come here?”
If I failed to recognize such obvious probing, I really would be an idiot. I pulled the bandage tight and tied a firm knot.
“If you don’t want treatment, leave now.”
…
After a long silence, he spoke.
“My apologies.”
“Being too suspicious isn’t good for your recovery.”
I left that remark behind and hurried out.
Not because I was tough.
Because I was afraid of being stabbed.

A stream ran behind the house. When I first arrived in this world, I had been lying in it.
I was already panicking. Then I saw my face reflected in the water and nearly lost my soul.
I stirred the stream with a hand. The face rippled. A large dark patch covered its left side, the result of a childhood injury. For years, the body’s original owner had searched for a way to become beautiful, but some medicinal ingredients were hard to find.
After sitting there a while, I picked vegetables from the garden and cooked. I divided the food into two portions and brought one to Wei Wuya.
He frowned as he ate, but did not spit it out.
“Is it that bad?”
He shook his head.
“Acceptable.”
That evening, after changing his dressings, I reached the door before he called me back.
“Miss, I still don’t know your name.”
I stopped.
“Liu Li. My name is Liu Li.”
He nodded.
“Miss Liu, is there nothing you wish to ask me?”
I knew the answers whether I asked or not, which was why I hadn’t. But since he brought it up…
“Your name? Where do you live? Are your parents alive? How many siblings? Married or not?”
His lips lifted. A little amusement entered his voice.
“Wu Ya. I live in Changping. Both parents are well. There are three of us siblings. I am unmarried.”
My mouth twitched. Except for the last answer, every word was a lie.
“All right. I understand. Get some rest.”
I left and closed the door behind me.
If he didn’t want to tell me, why bother bringing it up?
I did not understand.
