I'm Ugly, You're Blind - Chapter 5

That night, I tossed and turned, thinking about meeting Wei Wuya.
He had seemed like a completely different person.
On the mountain, a gentle, handsome gentleman.
Today, a block of ice so cold I scarcely dared look.
The only thing unchanged was that he was still very good-looking.
A sound reached my ear.
I rose to investigate. The closed window beside me was rattling faintly.
Song Lanting hadn’t mentioned that his house was haunted!
My hair stood on end. Unfortunately, I had a contrary streak. I got out of bed, determined to see what it was.
The moment I opened the window, a glowing pearl appeared before my face.
I nearly ascended straight to paradise.
The person opposite held a finger to his lips.
“Shh.”
Wei Wuya leaned against the window frame, holding what appeared to be a luminous pearl.
Its glow softened his face. His dark eyes were deep, his expression faintly amused.
Standing in the darkness, I instinctively wanted to cover my left cheek.
But I had no veil.
I quietly stepped back, hiding myself in the night.
After a while, he spoke.
“Miss Liu. It’s been a long time.”
“When did you start knowing me?”
The question came out for no reason I could explain.
He lowered the pearl, taking its hazy light with it. His shoulders moved slightly.
Was he laughing?
Though the night was dim, I could feel his gaze on me.
“I have a talent for making enemies. I didn’t want to bring trouble to you, so I didn’t greet you earlier.”
I remained silent.
“When did you come to Yuezhou?”
“Today. Aren’t you from Changping, Young Master Wu? What brings you here?”
I was curious what story he’d invent this time.
“I recently moved to Yuezhou.”
Then he shifted and rested an elbow on the sill, bringing us a little closer.
“Oh, and I’ve changed my name. I’m called Wei Wuya now.”
I was surprised.
This time, he had given me his real name.
Everyone believed the lord of Yuezhou was called Lu Ya. Apart from Duan Yanche, no one knew he was Wei Wuya. Even the heroine only learned it late in the story.
I understood him less and less.
Was he trying to recruit me?
That explanation didn’t quite work either.
Fine. If I couldn’t figure it out, I’d leave it for now.
A little amusement entered my voice.
“Then I’ll call you Young Master Wei from now on.”
His hand moved from behind his back, bringing the pearl forward again. He gently set it on the sill.
Instinctively, I stepped back farther.
“I came at this late hour to bring you a gift. Do you like it?”
He meant the enormous, brilliant pearl.
I answered honestly.
“Very much.”
He tapped it with a finger.
“You’ve stepped back three times. I thought you disliked it.”
Embarrassment washed over me. What I had thought were tiny, unnoticed movements had been perfectly clear to him.
Wait.
He could see clearly!
I suddenly remembered that he had trained in martial arts since childhood and possessed remarkable hearing. His eyesight was probably exceptional too.
All my hiding had likely been pointless from the start.
“I…”
I opened my mouth, found nothing to say, and swallowed the words again.
He studied me for a moment.
“I’ve been fortunate today. I got to see your true face.”
Then he vanished.
Nothing remained before me but the glowing pearl.
I held it in my palm.
So beautiful.
Leaning out the window, I looked around. There was no moon tonight.
No wonder Wei Wuya had seemed especially radiant.
By this point in the plot, Yin Ruxue had appeared. The clever, beautiful daughter of a famous wealthy merchant in Yuezhou, she should already be helping the male lead devise plans to win the realm.
So what did Wei Wuya want with me?
To use me?
Or repay me?
Enough. Thinking too much would only make me miserable.
Better to sleep.
