Mad Dog - Chapter 2
Xie Wuyan moved.
Like a bolt of black lightning, he shot forward in an instant.
No one had time to react.
By the time they came to their senses, all they heard was a piercing scream—
and the crisp crack of bone being bitten through.
Blood gushed out, staining the white tablecloth on the dais red.
The bloated councilman clutched his throat, eyes bulging like brass bells, then toppled over stiffly.
The entire room erupted.
Alarms blared across the training grounds at once.
Xie Wuyan stood in the middle of the pool of blood, crimson still clinging to the corner of his mouth.
He turned and looked at me through the crowd in chaos.
Some of the violence had ebbed from his eyes. In its place was an urgent hunger for praise.
He looked like a big dog who had just brought back its prey and could not wait to claim credit from its master.
I remained where I was and gave him a tender smile.
Then, in full view of everyone, I slowly opened my arms.
“Wuyan, come here.”
“Come to me.”
He immediately broke into a run, shoving his way through the panicked crowd toward me.
The reek of blood on him was overpowering.
But he carefully kept clear of me, not letting a speck of filth touch me.
He dropped to one knee before me like a devout knight.
Burying his head against my chest, he greedily drew in the mental scent that could soothe him—a scent that belonged to me alone.
The trembling in his body gradually subsided.
I held him and stroked the back of his neck again and again.
Meeting Meng Guofeng’s shocked, furious gaze, I let just the right amount of grief and innocence show on my face.
“I’m sorry, General.”
“I… I couldn’t control him.”
“He seemed to hate that councilman…”
My voice trembled faintly, as if it were porcelain on the verge of shattering.
Meng Guofeng looked at Xie Wuyan, docile as a cat in my arms, then at the mangled corpse nearby.
His mouth opened, but in the end, no words came out.
What could he possibly say?
Xie Wuyan was the Alliance’s strongest weapon, but he was also its most unstable bomb.
And I, Ji Shuyan, was the only fuse keeping it from exploding.
They did not dare touch me.
Still less did they dare touch my dog.
Once we returned to our private lounge, I closed the door.
Every outside gaze was shut away.
Xie Wuyan, who had been perfectly docile only moments ago, immediately lifted his head.
He looked at me with those pitch-black eyes, tiny sparks of light glittering within them.
Then he extended his tongue and cautiously licked my palm.
Warm and wet.
Tinged with the metallic scent of blood.
I did not pull my hand away.
I even curled my fingers indulgently, brushing them against the tip of his tongue.
“Good boy.”
I praised him.
His eyes shone brighter.
I could almost see a tail whipping behind him like a cyclone.
He pressed his cheek into my palm and nuzzled it affectionately, acting spoiled.
Who would have imagined that the vicious fiend who had bitten through a man’s throat moments ago could look like this now?
This was my creation.
My perfect masterpiece.
