Marry the NPC with Money, Wife Comes Knocking - Chapter 110
Chapter 110
After taking the medicine, all the Anomalies clutched their oversized heads in a daze. The dozen or so of them huddled together instinctively, their life force completely hidden at this moment.
Their reaction made Hua Suihe and Ye Susheng look like bandits coming to rob them.
Facing this group of people who didn’t even dare to lift their heads, Hua Suihe didn’t dare to step forward and start a conversation recklessly. She whispered to Ye Susheng beside her, “Why are they so afraid of us?”
Ye Susheng said matter-of-factly, “Maybe they’ve never seen outsiders before. They’re just timid.”
After withdrawing her Spiritual Pressure, under normal circumstances, there would always be someone unable to resist their curiosity who would steal a glance. Now, these Big-headed Monsters kept their eyes glued to the ground, their posture so submissive and timid that they were the most pathetic race she had ever seen.
This desert was vast, and the original inhabitants had never been to the world outside. It was the same after they became Anomalies; they had always lived in isolation. Likely because they lacked internet access, they had no idea that their process of Anomalization was actually Thriller Contamination.
Ye Susheng wasn’t interested in them; she only wanted to take Hua Suihe to catch fish. “Hua Hua, let’s go.”
Hearing that they were leaving, one relatively elderly Black Big-head shuffled out slowly. He didn’t dare to look up at them, his voice raspy and trembling. “Hospitable… we are hospitable… welcoming…”
His voice choked up several times before he stopped talking, afraid that if he spoke any more, he would just keep repeating the word “hospitable.”
Hua Suihe caught his meaning and asked out of curiosity, “Do outsiders usually come here?”
Everyone immediately shook their heads.
Hua Suihe covered her mouth and whispered to Ye Susheng, “Wife, we came here to play, but seeing original inhabitants in a place like this is actually quite amazing.”
“Aren’t you curious about their culture? Let’s have a brief chat.”
Ye Susheng didn’t dare to shake her head; she could tell that Hua Hua was quite interested in this group of Black Big-heads.
Hua Suihe was good at talking to strangers. With her easygoing personality and gentle tone, she chatted with the old man who had stepped out. Eventually, the old man overcame his inner fear, and his speech became slightly more fluent.
From him, she learned that they were originally a tribe of a hundred people. But one night five years ago, while everyone was fast asleep, sand buried more than half of the tribe-specifically the sand dunes behind these houses. After being buried, only fifteen people remained in the entire tribe.
Hua Suihe hadn’t expected such a serious accident to have happened only a few years ago. She had thought the tribe had migrated and that the ruins of history had been covered by wind and sand over many years.
The truth was heavy, and Hua Suihe felt as if a giant boulder was weighing on her heart. Her gaze swept over the men, women, young, and old before her, and a strong sense of dissonance suddenly arose. “Then why didn’t you move away?”
“Weren’t you afraid after such a huge accident? Why didn’t you leave?” She wasn’t interrogating them, just genuinely confused. Logically speaking, when a natural disaster strikes, survivors should flee. They had just kept living here-weren’t they afraid they would be the ones buried next time?
As soon as Hua Suihe asked the question, the Anomalies, who had been plunged into sadness by the memories, froze for a moment, as if they were about to grow a brain.
That’s right, why didn’t they move?
The old man slowly shook his head and gave an absurd answer: “It’s fine. We won’t die.”
Hua Suihe: …
She suddenly felt a headache coming on. So they stayed here entirely based on a surge of blind confidence?
Not a single neighbor refuted the old man’s words. It was simply mind-blowing. Hua Suihe was speechless.
Out of kindness, Hua Suihe still wanted to try and persuade them. “The sand hasn’t buried this part yet, but there’s no guarantee an accident like that won’t happen again. It would be safer to move away.”
Ye Susheng stood by Hua Suihe’s side without responding. She knew Hua Hua had misunderstood; when the Anomalies said they wouldn’t die, it was because their bodies had already been reconstructed by the Thriller. Even if they were buried in the dirt, they had the ability to dig themselves out. For them, it was no longer a disaster.
The old man’s gaze swept across his kin-the old, the weak, the sick, and the disabled-as he let out a helpless sigh. “Our lineage… we no longer have a way to produce descendants.”
Hearing this topic, Hua Suihe alertly pressed closer to Ye Susheng’s side. Her mind immediately jumped to cases of human trafficking and forced marriages.
“Young ladies, how did you come to be here?”
Everyone looked at the two of them with curious eyes. However, when they met Hua Suihe’s suddenly joyless gaze and saw Ye Susheng’s cold expression, they quickly withdrew their stares. They even took three steps back in fear, their bodies trembling.
Seeing them in this state, Hua Suihe felt that even suspecting them was unnecessary.
Ye Susheng acted as if she hadn’t heard them speak at all, focusing entirely on fiddling with Hua Suihe’s palm.
“We were chasing the Oasis for fun,” Hua Suihe explained simply. Sensing Ye Susheng’s boredom, she moved to end the conversation. “We’ve bothered you for long enough. We want to look around some more, so we’ll be going now.”
“Want to eat?”
A sensible little boy ran into his house like a streak of lightning. Before long, he ran back clutching a piece of dried fish larger than himself. He held it out to Hua Suihe, speaking in a childish voice: “Eat.”
Hua Suihe let out a surprised “Wow” and declined with a smile. “Thank you, little one, but we don’t know how to eat dried fish. It’s so big that it would be hard for us to carry, so we’ll pass.”
The child had a large head and tiny limbs. His round eyes were full of confusion. Then, right in front of Hua Suihe, he opened his mouth and bit off half the dried fish, stuffing it inside.
A piece larger than his own head was shoved directly into his mouth.
Hua Suihe was dumbfounded. Before she could even try to stop him, she watched him chew and swallow it in a few bites. He then held up the remaining half toward her. “Eat like this.”
Hua Suihe: “You… huh?”
Ye Susheng realized what had happened a beat late and racked her brain to smooth things over. “Hua Hua, this kid…”
Hua Suihe finished the sentence: “…has incredible teeth.”
When he opened his mouth wide, he looked like an exaggerated cartoon character-a dark-skinned, big-headed doll. He was actually quite cute.
Hua Suihe didn’t take his fish. Life was clearly not easy for them; everyone was skin and bones, so she didn’t have the heart to take their stored food.
The viewers in the livestream had donated a bunch of food packs. Hua Suihe took out a large portion to give to them. After distributing the food, she and Ye Susheng said their goodbyes and headed back toward the depths of the Oasis.
Finally away from that crowd of ugly creatures, Ye Susheng’s mood instantly improved, and she returned to her lively self. “Hua Hua, Hua Hua, I can catch fish! We can catch fresh fish to eat!”
“Alright.”
Standing by the lakeshore, Ye Susheng had her fishing gear ready, intending to spear a couple of fish.
Hua Suihe helped her roll up her sleeves and casually mentioned, “Ye Zi, are you not used to chatting with strangers?”
Ye Susheng obediently held out her arms for her. Hearing the question, she said without a second thought, “I don’t like chatting.”
“I only want to talk to Hua Hua. I don’t like strangers.”
“Then, has Ye Zi ever made friends before?”
To Ye Susheng, “friend” was just a noun she often heard from Hua Hua’s mouth. “I don’t need friends.”
