Chapter 115

“But Hua Hua ate bread for both meals today.” Ye Susheng sounded a little guilty. At noon, Hua Hua had only eaten a single grilled fish.

Even though Hua Suihe didn’t say it outright, Ye Susheng could tell her appetite was pretty much gone. She’d only managed one slice of bread and most of a bottle of water, and she already looked like she was calling it full.

Sure enough, Hua Suihe wrapped up the portion of bread she hadn’t finished, and still answered her, “It’s fine. Bread fills me up too.”

A flash of inspiration struck Hua Suihe, and she added, “But yeah, I really don’t have much of an appetite. I’m kind of sick of it.”

Ye Susheng thought she’d changed her mind. Holding her hand, she tried to pull her up. “I’ll take Hua Hua home right now. I’ll make you a late-night snack.”

“Eh-” Hua Suihe resisted a little and didn’t stand. She met Ye Susheng’s puzzled look and said, “I don’t want to go home tonight.”

Hua Suihe voiced what she’d been thinking. “How about Ye Zi goes back to the street and buys some late-night snacks to bring over? Ye Zi’s wife is fast-I’ll wait here for you to come back.”

Ye Susheng clearly fell silent for a beat. Her red eyes rolled as she stared at Hua Suihe, then she refused outright. “No.”

Hua Suihe’s eyes widened. “Why?”

“Something’s off.” Ye Susheng’s tone was firm. She crouched down in front of Hua Suihe again, hands resting on Hua Suihe’s legs, staring straight into her eyes.

Under that gaze, Hua Suihe felt a little guilty, but she kept the conversation going. “What’s off? What are you thinking?”

“Wifey Hua Hua has never ordered me to buy things. Whether we’re shopping, strolling a night market, or eating snacks, Hua Hua always insists on going with me-not sending me off alone.”

“Mm…” Hua Suihe pretended to ponder deeply. “Could it be… I’ve become a bad person?”

“Sigh-” Hua Suihe let out an exaggerated sigh and said in a very ‘understanding’ tone, “It’s okay. Then I just won’t eat. It’ll be the same if we go back tomorrow and eat then.”

“That’s not what I meant!” Ye Susheng grew anxious. She couldn’t stand the look of Hua Hua being disappointed in her, and immediately changed her stance. “I’ll go buy it. Whatever Hua Hua wants, I’ll bring it all back.”

A hint of mischief flashed through Hua Suihe’s eyes. She cleared her throat and started ordering. “Get some skewers, and fried rice noodles. Braised snacks are fine too. I really need something heavy and strongly flavored to kick-start my appetite. For milk tea, strawberry white chocolate, please~”

If Ye Susheng placed the order on her phone and went straight to pick it up, the round trip would take at least ten minutes-more than enough.

“That’s all. Sorry to trouble you, Ye Zi’s wife.” Hua Suihe cupped her face, bent down, and kissed her on the forehead. “Go and come right back~”

Ye Susheng swept her gaze around the area and didn’t spot anything suspicious. She warned seriously, “Hua Hua, don’t run off. The wilderness is dangerous. I’ll be back soon. You have to wait right here for me, okay?”

Hua Suihe nodded to show she understood, and urged her, “Go on, go on.”

Ye Susheng gave her a long, deep look, then lowered her eyes and left.

Once she was sure Ye Susheng was gone, Hua Suihe began calling for Gu Gu, who was hanging out in the livestream chat. Only after Gu Gu typed a string of question marks did Hua Suihe continue.

“Gu Gu, help me buy some fireworks. Not a lot-ten is enough.”

[Gu Gu: Late-night snacks, my ass. You’re clearly setting up something romantic. You woman who keeps shoving PDA down our throats-I’m not granting your wish.]

[Wuqi tipped Romantic Fireworks ×10.]

[Gu Gu: Wuqi, you… you Wuqi!]

Hua Suihe clicked her tongue and complained, “Aren’t you two still not made up? It’s already been over twenty-four hours.”
[Gu Gu: We’re not making up. Kick her out of the stream, now.]

Hua Suihe shrugged helplessly. “You think I’m still streaming from my computer at home? I don’t have any permissions here; I can’t just kick people whenever I want.”

[Gu Gu: If she’s here, I’m leaving.]

Hua Suihe’s eyes widened in shock. “Wait, hold on, my lady! What does your fight have to do with me?” she asked, incredulous.

[Wuqi: She’s just throwing a tantrum. She won’t actually leave your stream.]

Hua Suihe wasn’t truly afraid of her leaving, but she was worried that their conflict had lasted over twenty-four hours without being resolved. She genuinely cared about Gu Gu’s feelings.

“You two should hurry up and make up. What’s the issue anyway? Old married couples shouldn’t let their moods sour overnight.”

Once Hua Suihe said that, both of them stopped typing.

The lack of a private messaging feature was such a hassle; there were things she couldn’t exactly ask in front of a live audience.

Forget it. Hua Suihe gave up on being a mediator. If she didn’t finish setting up the fireworks soon, Ye Susheng would be back.

[Actually, Gu Gu and Wuqi are kind of a cute ship too.]

[The person above isn’t even hiding it anymore, calling her ‘Wuqi’ already?]

[If only their lives had cameras too, I’d be happy to just be a viewer of their life story.]

[What is Hua Hua doing? Is she making a heart shape?]

Hua Suihe was worried Ye Susheng would move too fast, so as she walked in a heart-shaped circle, she placed a firework at rough intervals. The final result didn’t look too bad.

Remembering how the fireworks had ignited on their own last time without her even redeeming them, she stayed cautious. Even when she saw a firework that was slightly crooked, she didn’t dare go over to adjust it, fearing there might be some hidden ‘troublemakers’ lurking.

Hearing a faint sound, Hua Suihe assumed Ye Susheng was back. She turned around with a bright smile, but the words of welcome died in her throat.

It wasn’t Ye Susheng. It looked like a person, but it was too dark to make out their features clearly.

The figure saw Hua Suihe and approached silently, stopping only when she turned around.

[It’s Wen Mo.]

[Why is he acting like a ghost, making no sound at all? What is he doing?]

[Even though I know Boss Wen isn’t that kind of person, Hua Hua needs to be on guard!]

[I’m so scared of another sneak attack. Boss Wen, you better live up to the quality of a male lead.]

After a brief standoff, Wen Mo spoke first. “Miss Hua, we meet again.”

Hua Suihe pulled back her hood to block the wind and squinted to identify him. She then nodded. “What a coincidence. You’re here too.”

“It’s no coincidence. I came here specifically for you.” Wen Mo had been observing from a distance for a while. He had waited until Ye Susheng disappeared and stayed away for several minutes before approaching.

“I saw that Ye Susheng wasn’t here, so I came over,” Wen Mo said candidly and directly. “I sought you out because I wanted to talk. Do you really understand Ye Susheng?”

Hua Suihe looked at him with utter confusion. “Of course I do. Why? Are you going to badmouth my wife right to my face?”

Wen Mo choked on his words, momentarily speechless at her train of thought. He pressed on, “Then do you know what Ye Susheng and Thriller signify? You’re a human, so why…”

Hua Suihe interrupted him impatiently. “Of course I’m a human. Isn’t that obvious?”

“Stop with the cryptic nonsense. My wife is coming back soon. If you don’t have anything else to say, then leave. Don’t ruin our time alone together.”

Wen Mo hadn’t expected her to be such an impenetrable wall. Feeling frustrated, he managed to squeeze out three words: “You simpleton.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, his figure vanished without a trace.
