Chapter 149

“It… got up?!” Pei Ying’s gaze went slightly blank as he looked behind them. His eyes rose inch by inch, reflecting the giant robot rising from the ground.

Hua Suihe and Ye Susheng turned at the sound. The rusted, copper-colored, dented mechanical head was lifting higher, revealing a neck, arms, and half a torso.

Ye Susheng’s pupils contracted. She instantly teleported Hua Suihe to a safe position. The robot was far too massive; as it pulled itself out of the ground, the earth around it caved in. The spot where they had been standing split open into a huge fissure in seconds.

It was no smaller than a giant shopping mall, and as tall as a thirty- or forty-story building. If they had not seen it with their own eyes, who would believe that a building buried underground had come alive?

Xia Moyi and Pei Ying used items to run outward. They were not far enough away, and only reached the other players after several consecutive flashes.

The players who had escaped had just put some distance between themselves and Ye Susheng and were finally breathing a sigh of relief, only to see the Safe Zone turn into a living robot. Terrified, they scattered in every direction. A giant monster like this could stamp all of them into the ground with a single footprint. Even an Anomaly was safer than it was.

Because of its enormous size, the robot looked clumsy and heavy. Its head had just been bombed and battered, leaving a huge dent that made it look almost ridiculous.

Xia Moyi spat the dirt out of her mouth and stared at the colossal thing in horror. “Isn’t this way too overpowered? Has Shanhu lost her mind?”

“She implanted a special energy source into the control room. This Safe Zone was originally a large-scale man-made robot. She brought the machinery back to life.”

“But once the energy runs out, the Safe Zone will lose its defensive capabilities. It won’t be able to repair itself anymore, either. It’ll just become ordinary scrap metal. And it’s been buried underground for so long-once the robot loses its defenses, rusted fixtures could cause it to collapse and fall apart.” Pei Ying’s emotions were a tangled mess. He had never imagined they would go this far just to catch Hua Suihe.

If there were still players inside, they would definitely be smashed into meat patties when the machine broke apart.

People who loudly proclaimed that human life came before all else were treating life with such indifference. It sent a chill through him. All these years, everything he had given to this Agency now felt like a joke.

The robot locked onto Hua Suihe’s direction and raised its heavy leg, walking toward them. A single footprint could destroy two football fields.

The entire robot had now emerged aboveground, its towering body blotting out the sky, but its movements were ponderous and clumsy.

Ye Susheng took Hua Suihe and shuttled rapidly through space, always keeping a safe distance from the robot.

“Something’s not right.” Because she knew the enemy’s target was Hua Hua, Ye Susheng remained on high alert and did not dare approach the robot recklessly. Yet this big guy, aside from dragging its heavy body after them, had not made any damaging attacks at all.

Facing an unknown danger, Ye Susheng stayed tense, her mind filled with only one thought: taking Hua Hua away. “Hua Hua, I’ll take you home.”

Hua Suihe noticed her condition. Seeing her eyes clearly shifting into a state of Anomalization, the red of her pupils gradually spreading while the whites slowly vanished, she quickly rubbed the back of Ye Susheng’s neck and coaxed her again and again, “It’s okay, it’s okay. Don’t be nervous. It’s okay, Ye Zi’s wife.”

The Safe Zone had originally been buried on the border between the Thriller and human territories. Now it had crossed into the territory polluted by Thriller Contamination. There were some humans inside the Safe Zone who were not players. Without the protection of player status, their bodies immediately began to show signs of Anomalization from the contamination, and they started slaughtering the players who had not yet left.
Hua Suihe sank into her embrace and felt her body trembling, as if she were suffering from a stress response. Hua Hua soothed her in a soft, gentle voice. “The Safe Zone has fallen. It’s okay, Ye Zi. The dungeon is about to end. Don’t panic. We can leave normally. Be good, baby.”

Shanhu drove the robot toward Thriller’s territory, keeping her eyes fixed on the distance between herself and Hua Suihe, and had overlooked this point.

But it was no major issue. What happened to the Safe Zone had nothing to do with her. Those low-level Anomaly inside it couldn’t stir up much trouble anyway. But since the dungeon was about to end, she could no longer close the distance at such a leisurely pace.

With the Safe Zone fallen, the revelry belonging to the Anomaly had begun. As if celebrating their victory, during the dungeon’s settlement period, they treated players as prey and started a hunting game.

Only players who successfully survived the half-hour settlement period could live through a failed dungeon without spending points to exchange for a revival card.

Ye Susheng’s condition was extremely unstable. Hua Suihe stopped her from forcibly taking her away before the dungeon ended, lest it worsen the strain on her body. Those low-level Anomaly didn’t dare come forward and offend them either. For this half hour, all they had to do was keep their distance from that big guy.

The black mist had already taken the initiative to wrap itself into a black cocoon, completely enclosing the two of them inside. Even so, Ye Susheng had lost confidence in her own black mist.

If she had been in her normal state, Ye Susheng would have scoffed at a tiny human. Even a colossal machine would have been nothing more than scrap metal to her. She would never have been this timid and shrinking.

But now her form was unstable. She couldn’t afford the slightest mishap. The faintest stir of wind or grass was enough to make her as jumpy as a startled bird.

Hua Suihe looked toward the robot in the distance, her brows knitting together unconsciously as she remembered what Xia Moyi had just told her.

They wanted to study her? Did that mean they knew she was an outsider?

She would definitely pay that Agency a visit, but absolutely not in a way that put herself at a disadvantage.

[That aging robot is more bot-like than an actual bot. It doesn’t even have a gun.]

[They even revived this antique just to catch Hua Hua? That’s some dedication.]

[The dungeon’s ending, so the livestream is about to close. I don’t want to say goodbye to Hua Hua. I love watching Hua Hua’s daily life so much. Petition to livestream her daily life outside the dungeon too.]

[Why don’t you ask if Ye Susheng agrees?]

[Holy crap, the aging robot exploded!]

Hua Suihe’s pupils constricted. The robot in the distance exploded in an instant, the blast deafening. Even under the protection of the black mist, she could still feel the shockwave from the explosion.

A scorching wave of heat surged toward them through the air, and machine parts scattered everywhere, large and small. Scrap metal rained down across the entire area.

There were also red, drifting filaments in the air. Like living things, they floated toward the black mist and clung to it.

The black mist reacted as if it were allergic to the substance, instinctively shrinking back into its main body. As a result, the black protective shell rapidly disintegrated.

Ye Susheng went blank along with it, as if she had lost the ability to move.

“Ye Zi?”

Mechanical Bugs glowing with blue light burst out from underground and charged toward Hua Suihe with lightning speed.

At that exact moment, the world’s time froze.

The ugly Mechanical Bugs stopped in midair in a surrounding formation. The wind stilled. Even the floating debris froze in place.

“Hua Hua, Hua Hua…”

“No one can take her away. Hua Hua… my Hua Hua…”
