Chapter 166

Yi Shuang VS Fang Ge (Final)

The two of them stepped out of the bar, leaving behind the air thick with the smell of smoke and alcohol. Without the pounding DJ music, the atmosphere between them turned a little delicate.

Fang Ge took out her phone and asked in an easy tone, “Feeling better? I can call you a car.”

Yi Shuang’s gaze settled on her face. When it met Fang Ge’s questioning look, she guiltily looked away and answered in a low voice, “I’m much better.”

Fang Ge brought up her phone. “Then I’ll call you a car. You should go home and rest.”

Anxious, Yi Shuang raised her hand and covered Fang Ge’s phone, blocking the screen. When she spoke, her voice carried a few extra notes of earnestness. “We haven’t seen each other in so long. I want to spend a little time with you.”

Fang Ge froze slightly, then dazedly put her phone back into her pocket. She hadn’t expected Yi Shuang to actually take the initiative and say she wanted to spend time with her.

A little flustered, Fang Ge tucked the loose strands of hair at her forehead behind her ear and pretended to be calm. “Then I’ll walk with you for a bit.”

Even as she spoke, she had already started walking.

Fang Ge’s outfit today was completely different from how she had looked in the dungeon before. She wore a rose-red camisole with white denim short shorts. Her milk-tea-colored, big wavy curls were tied into twin ponytails, and hoop earrings hung from her earlobes. It was a very hot-girl look.

Yi Shuang lowered her head and glanced at herself. She was still in a black short-sleeved shirt with brown cargo pants, her blunt-cut black hair falling to her shoulders. She had no extra accessories on her and hadn’t dressed up at all.

Fang Ge walked a few steps before realizing Yi Shuang hadn’t followed. She turned back and saw Yi Shuang staring blankly at her. Fang Ge spoke, interrupting her thoughts. “Sister Shuang, what’s wrong?”

“Ahem… Mm, nothing.” Yi Shuang walked forward and caught up with her in just a few steps, matching her pace as they continued on.

Yi Shuang suddenly asked, “That… little girl just now said she was pursuing you. Is that true?”

Fang Ge was stunned for two seconds before she realized what Yi Shuang was asking. Awkwardly, she rubbed her neck. “Yeah. Why are you asking about that…”

That had been a setup arranged by her good friend Bai Yanshan. She had probably been trying to help her get Yi Shuang’s attention. Did that count as a success now?

Perhaps because she felt a little guilty, Fang Ge sped up. Yi Shuang suddenly grabbed her wrist, forcing her to stop.

They were standing by the side of the road. The traffic light beside them had turned red, and cars drove past one after another through the crosswalk.

“It’s red.”

Fang Ge rocked up onto her toes where she stood and laughed awkwardly. “I didn’t notice.”

Yi Shuang stared at her profile, knowing she was avoiding her gaze. Yi Shuang felt all tangled up inside, and for some reason, her tone carried a hint of jealousy. “Are you planning to accept her?”

“Huh?” Fang Ge looked up at her. The denial nearly slipped out of her mouth, but then she realized something and thought, Is she jealous?

When she didn’t get an answer from Fang Ge, Yi Shuang’s eyes darkened slightly. Suddenly, it felt unbearable. She asked again, “Do you… really want to date her?”

“Why are you so concerned about my love life?” Fang Ge was sure of it now. Yi Shuang was jealous.

But the person who had always rejected her-what right did she have to be jealous?

Was it Fang Ge that Yi Shuang couldn’t let go of, or was it love?

Yi Shuang parted her lips, her gaze dimming. “I’m sorry. Although…”

Fang Ge cut her off. “The light’s green. Let’s cross first.”

For the thirty seconds it took to cross the street, neither of them said a word. They walked over that stretch of zebra crossing and stopped beneath a streetlamp by the road.

Fang Ge was sick of hearing Yi Shuang always use unrelated words to block her and evade the issue at critical moments. This time was the same.

She quickened her steps, only wanting to walk ahead alone, using that to show her resistance.

Yi Shuang followed behind her, staring at her seemingly angry back. She wanted to call out to her, wanted to make her wait for her. The urge was so strong it pushed the words out of her mouth.

“Fang Ge.”

“I know I’m in the wrong, but I really do care.”

Fang Ge stopped at her words, frozen in place.

“I know I’m awful. I push you away, but I still crave you.”
“Even now, there’s still a part of me that wants to ask you to wait for me.”

To ask her not to walk so fast. Or not to leave.

“I don’t know what love is supposed to look like. I don’t know how to face a relationship or make one work. All this time, I watched you like me and never gave you any response.”

Yi Shuang stepped in front of her, blocking her path as if she could stop her from leaving, wanting Fang Ge’s eyes to hold only her again.

“I’m selfish. I’m despicable. I don’t know if this is love. You’re free, and you have the right to choose to like someone else, but it makes me uncomfortable. I care. A lot.”

When Yi Shuang finished, uncontainable nerves showed in her eyes. She stared fixedly into Fang Ge’s, trying to catch the response she longed for most.

But Fang Ge felt a tightness in her chest.

For Yi Shuang, being able to say all this out loud was already tremendous progress.

But Fang Ge had been the one taking the initiative for far too long. She was tired. Only now did she finally hear some faint echo in return, and that echo seemed so insignificant, still nowhere near the sincerity and passion she wanted most.

Fang Ge took a step back, her emotions so calm they were almost cold. “Yi Shuang, you still can’t confirm how you feel about me. Do you like me, or do you like that I love you?”

“What I want is a clear yes from you… or a clear no. I want you to say you like me, that you love me, and that’s why you want to be with me. Otherwise, reject me. Push me away. Stay away from me. That’s the kind of answer a relationship deserves.”

“Let’s… take some more time to cool off.” Maybe if they cooled off long enough, this relationship between them would fade completely, sink into the past, and Fang Ge would accept it.

Worst case… she would find someone else to love. It wasn’t as if she could never get over an unrequited love.

Fang Ge looked away from her and walked around her.

Yi Shuang stood rooted to the spot, as if nails had been driven through her feet. She could feel Fang Ge’s anger in her words, so she didn’t dare stop her again.

Did she like Fang Ge?

Or did she like Fang Ge’s love for her?

She liked her…

After parting from Fang Ge, they didn’t see each other for many days in a row. Yi Shuang took the initiative to message her on Green Bubble every day, chatting about little fragments of daily life. Yi Shuang had become the one reaching out first.

All at once, she understood that feeling-the torment of waiting for the other person to reply.

She did like Fang Ge, and she wanted Fang Ge to love her too. She wanted Fang Ge’s love. No one else would do. She only wanted Fang Ge’s love.

She started looking up little dating tips online, doing her homework seriously and learning how a relationship should officially begin.

She prepared thoroughly.

Then came Hua Suihe and Ye Susheng’s wedding.

In her plan, she would catch the bouquet at the wedding, symbolizing the passing on of a beautiful love.

After that, she would carefully prepare a date, a bouquet of flowers, a ring-a relationship beginning after all her careful preparations.

She hadn’t expected Fang Ge to get drunk at the wedding. Crying, Fang Ge accused her, “You’re always like this. You accept my flirting, but you won’t accept me… If you keep this up, I’m going to stop liking you.”

In that moment, Yi Shuang panicked so badly that she immediately carried her away.

She stayed crouched by her side, waiting for the instant she sobered up, and confessed at once, “Fang Ge, I love you.”

Looking at Fang Ge’s dazed face, Yi Shuang said earnestly, “I want to be with you. I don’t know when I started liking you, but by the time I realized it, I couldn’t leave you anymore. I love you, Fang Ge.”

“Could you… give me a chance?”

At Ye-Hua’s wedding.

There was no carefully prepared date, no flowers or ring like she had imagined. Everything was so rushed, but she couldn’t hold back anymore. She was afraid Fang Ge would really let go of her and stop wanting her.

Fortunately, they hadn’t lost each other yet.

Fang Ge threw herself into Yi Shuang’s arms and burst into tears.

“You jerk! Do you know how long I’ve been waiting for you to say that? Wuuuu…”

Yes. She really was a jerk. From now on, this jerk would spend the rest of her life making it up to her, repaying every debt she owed.
