Hua Suihe turned off the lights and climbed into bed. She had just lain down and closed her eyes when she heard clattering noises from upstairs.

In fact, during the few nights she had slept here, there were always such disturbing sounds coming from upstairs, and every time she had to wait until the noise died down before she could fall asleep.

It seemed that tonight would also be noisy for a long time. Hua Suihe suspected that the upstairs tenant was a small vendor, preparing ingredients at night, so there were sounds of chopping, and occasionally the clang of stainless steel pots and bowls.

She was quite curious-wasn’t there anyone else who complained? Although she never checked the time, at the very least the noise would go on until midnight.

As a result, she wasn’t getting enough sleep at night.

Tonight was the third time. Hua Suihe opened her eyes; she felt that things couldn’t go on like this day after day, especially since she still had to stay for another month.

So she decided to go and communicate with the upstairs tenant.

Hua Suihe got out of bed, fumbled for the switch to turn on the light, found her flashlight, grabbed her keys, turned on the flashlight and went out the door.

The hallway was pitch dark, and none of the other rooms had their lights on. Come to think of it, she had never bumped into a neighbor before, although Ye Susheng had told her there were a few households on this floor.

Hua Suihe closed the door behind her, regretting not having put on a jacket. A gust of wind blew past and she shivered from the cold.

She shone the flashlight as she walked up the stairs. The flashlight beam wavered, illuminating a black shadow cast at her feet. She looked back-no one was there.

Hua Suihe pursed her lips. Walking alone at night could really set one’s imagination running wild.

She continued upward, found the room directly above her own, and knocked on the door.

She had barely knocked once when the door opened a crack. The room inside was dark, and the noisy sounds came to an abrupt stop.

“Hello, I’m your downstairs neighbor. Could you come out and talk for a moment?”

There was no response from inside.

Hua Suihe waited for a while, then knocked again on the half-open door, “Hello, could you come out and talk for a moment?”

The door opened fully.

But the room was still pitch black. Hua Suihe shone her flashlight inside and saw a messy arrangement.

Hua Suihe reached out to feel along the wall by the doorframe, found the light switch, turned it on, but nothing happened.

She pressed it a couple more times, still nothing.

“I haven’t paid the electricity bill. The power’s been cut off,” a female voice suddenly said, and a girl’s figure appeared in the flashlight’s beam.

Hua Suihe withdrew her hand. “I see.”

The woman was dressed in white, her hair freshly washed and uncombed, a mess that covered half her face. Hua Suihe angled the flashlight beam lower and saw that she was holding a large kitchen knife, blood dripping from it.

Hua Suihe instinctively took two steps back, retreating to a safe distance, but then remembered there were people living nearby, and she mustered up her courage.

“Um, I wanted to ask what you’re busy with so late at night?” Hua Suihe kept her eyes on the knife in the woman’s hand and quickly added, “I’m not accusing you-it’s just that the noise at night is really loud, and as I live downstairs, it’s affecting my sleep a bit.”

The woman in white didn’t move. She replied slowly, “I’m chopping meat, chopping bones.”

Hua Suihe stared at the knife in her hand, feeling an inexplicable chill from her answer. She changed her wording to something more pleasant: “I… understand, you’re probably preparing ingredients, right?”

The woman didn’t reply, as if she was acknowledging her statement.

“Do you think you could do these tasks during the day? And besides, since you haven’t paid the electricity bill, it can’t be easy to do this at night without lights.”

If she could, she almost wanted to generously offer to pay this month’s electricity bill for her.

But now she was no longer the rich little Hua Suihe, so she couldn’t say that.

Hua Suihe gripped the flashlight tightly in her hand, feeling unsure. After all, if this woman refused, there was nothing she could do. Mainly, she didn’t have the courage to argue with someone holding a dangerous weapon, and if the woman got emotional and accidentally hurt her, she’d be finished.
The woman’s voice was still slow and unhurried. “Okay.”

“Sorry.”

“Did I disturb you?”

She spoke, one phrase at a time.

Hua Suihe’s heart finally settled down, and she showed a grateful smile. “Thank you for your understanding. Wishing you happiness every day~”

It wasn’t until she walked down the stairs that the sound of a door closing came from behind her.

In the pitch-dark room, the woman brushed aside the hair covering her face, revealing a face splattered with blood.

A twisted skeleton shadow rose from the floor. “She wished you happiness every day.”

The woman wiped the fresh blood from her knife onto her white dress, her tone slow. “You followed her.”

“You want to eat her.”

“Hmph.” The skeleton shadow stretched out a bit. “She couldn’t sleep because of your noise, and I live next to her, and I can’t sleep because she smells so sweet.”

The woman’s pale hand, with blood-red nails, grabbed its shoulder. With a swift movement of her knife, the shadow let out a shrill, miserable scream and was completely dissipated.

“Giving in to greedy desires.”

“Die.”

After Hua Suihe returned to her room, she indeed no longer heard the noise from upstairs. Feeling at ease, she no longer even felt so cold.

She snuggled back into her covers, feeling content.

The next day, she told Ye Susheng about the incident.

Su Sheng was very surprised, shocked that she actually dared to confront the neighbor in the dark, and told her that if something like this happened again, she should let her know, so the two of them could go together-it would be safer.

“Mm, I know.” Hua Suihe regretted it the moment she saw the other person holding a knife. Luckily, the woman did not attack her.

After breakfast, Hua Suihe decided to go to the library with Ye Susheng.

With no phone to play with, her partner not by her side, and nothing else to do, she might as well go to the library and read.

“Hua Hua wants to go to the library too?”

“But the library is currently being reorganized. Some sections haven’t had their bookshelves sorted yet, so for now, only the second-floor reading room is open.”

“That’s fine, I’ll just stay in the reading room.”

Su Sheng helped her hang a work badge around her neck. “You have to swipe your ID to enter.”

“I have work at the library, so I don’t have time to keep Hua Hua company…”

Hua Suihe pushed her toward the door, urging, “Okay, okay, let’s go. If we don’t hurry, Su Sheng will be late.”

The library was grand and imposing, covering a large area, and appeared to have six floors in total.

Su Sheng explained that currently only the second floor was open to students, as the books on other floors hadn’t been shelved yet and those areas weren’t open to the public.

Su Sheng led Hua Suihe to the second-floor reading room, helped her pick out a few books she liked, and told her not to leave, in case she couldn’t find her when she returned. After repeatedly stressing this, she finally left to return to her post.

Su Sheng entered the elevator and pressed the button for the fourth floor.

“Are we really going to take part in this?” At this point, some people wanted to back out. The SSS rating meant there was a very high chance that no one would survive.

Water Cube looked at Gua Gua, his expression gentle. “Would you be willing to stay with me?”

Gua Gua clutched at her clothes and answered resolutely, “I’m willing.”

Some of the people who had regained their senses left; twenty people remained.
