Hua Suihe was sitting in the reading room, engrossed in a romance novel, so absorbed that she was almost oblivious to everything else. It wasn’t until her stomach growled loudly, drawing too much attention from those around her, that she finally lifted her head from the sea of knowledge.

A clock hung on the wall – it was already one in the afternoon.

She still had half of the thick book left. She slipped a bookmark between the pages and closed the book.

It was one o’clock now; Ye Susheng should be getting off work, right? There should be a lunch break, but she hadn’t come to find her yet.

Ye Susheng had said her job was to organize books, classify them by barcode and such.

That kind of work was basically manual labor. How could anyone keep working non-stop?

The library was indeed huge, divided into several sections, with even four or five elevators.

Ye Susheng had told her not to wander around, worried it would be hard to meet up.

But now she was hungry.

If Ye Susheng didn’t have time to cook, she could go to the cafeteria, but skipping a meal was absolutely out of the question.

If she left directly, Ye Susheng wouldn’t be able to find her when she came back, and if she went looking for her, she might not find her either.

Hua Suihe lay on the table with a troubled expression, until a book was placed upright in front of her eyes.

She followed the hand up with her gaze and saw a familiar face.

She slowly straightened up. “Yi Shuang?”

A warning sign was posted on the wall: Please keep quiet. No talking or chatting.

Her voice sounded especially abrupt in the silent reading room, so everyone’s eyes focused on them, their gazes practically brimming with anger.

Under such stares, Hua Suihe gradually felt guilty and didn’t dare make another sound.

Yi Shuang raised her eyebrows slightly; Hua Suihe hadn’t followed the library rules, yet remained unscathed.

Hua Suihe hadn’t appeared in the players’ sights recently, so Water Cube was telling everyone she was dead.

In reality, she was living far better than he was.

Yi Shuang gestured for Hua Suihe to follow her out. Only when they reached a place where talking was allowed did she speak:

“Hua Suihe, I have something I’d like your help with.”

Hua Suihe shrank back a little. “You come here just to ask for my help?”

“There’s payment.”

Payment? That meant it wasn’t simple. Hua Suihe shook her head firmly. “No, I’m not that desperate.”

She’d just received her weekly wages after class yesterday – enough to get by.

“I just want you to help me buy a book. I asked the administrator, but she said she doesn’t sell to students.” Yi Shuang raised the book in her hand, about the size of a dictionary.

“I’d like you to ask for me. If you can’t buy it, that’s fine. If you can, I’ll pay you the book’s price as a thank-you.”

Hua Suihe frowned and took the dictionary-sized book from her. The title was ‘Origin of Horror.’ She thought it was a horror novel, but upon opening it, the writing was as dense as a popular science book about the origin of the universe – her head started to ache.

She closed the book. “Why do you want to buy this?”

“I’m quite interested in it.”

Hua Suihe pursed her lips. “Alright, I’ll ask for you. If it’s for sale, you pay for it.”

She hadn’t even had time to enjoy her paycheck yet.

Yi Shuang chuckled and nodded. “Of course.”

Hua Suihe took the book to the front desk and told the administrator she wanted to buy it. The administrator agreed immediately, took the book, scanned the code, and checked the price.

“This book costs fifty-six thousand yuan. Will you pay by scan or cash?”

Fifty-six thousand?!

Fifty-six thousand!

For a book the size of an Oxford dictionary.

Hua Suihe turned to look at Yi Shuang. “Are you sure you want it?”

Yi Shuang wasn’t surprised at all by the price. She swiftly opened the payment code on her watch, and with a ding, the money was transferred.
Yi Shuang took the book, looked at Hua Suihe with sincere eyes, and said, “Thank you. Can I pay you by scanning your code?”

Hua Suihe: …

Fifty-six thousand. That’s fifty-six thousand.

But she didn’t have any electronic devices.

Hua Suihe closed her eyes in despair, her voice weak: “Can you scan my face instead?”

Yi Shuang was taken aback for a moment, guessing she might not have a device. “Sorry, I don’t have any cash on me. I’m not trying to avoid paying. When it’s convenient for you, I’ll pay you then, is that okay?”

Missing out on a windfall, Hua Suihe sighed regretfully. “It’s fine, it was just a small favor. Forget about the payment.”

She couldn’t bring herself to shamelessly ask someone for fifty-six thousand right away.

“Isn’t Su Sheng with you?”

“She went up to the fourth floor and hasn’t come down.”

Yi Shuang asked, “Aren’t you going up to find her?”

“She told me to wait for her on the first floor.”

Yi Shuang offered a sincere suggestion: “The fourth floor isn’t open. If you’re worried, you can just call out to her. It’s so empty here, she should be able to hear you.”

“Why hasn’t anyone come back yet?”

Gua Gua and Water Cube arrived at the designated meeting spot, waiting for the other players who had gone to search for clues in different areas. But they waited for a long time, and no one else showed up.

Water Cube stated the obvious: “They might not be coming back.”

Gua Gua’s face changed dramatically. She and Water Cube hadn’t encountered anything strange-no people, no objects. It had been too safe, so for a moment she forgot this was a place that could eat people alive.

Water Cube gripped a dagger in his hand. Gua Gua glanced down at it and found it oddly familiar.

She seemed to remember seeing Yi Shuang with an identical one in the dorm. Thinking of this, she asked, “Cube, where did you get your dagger?”

Water Cube pulled it closer to his side. “Exchanged it at the points shop.”

“Oh, right.” There were too many items in the shop. Hearing his explanation, Gua Gua didn’t think much more of it.

“We can’t wait any longer,” Water Cube said, looking a bit anxious. “It’s just the two of us now, and we haven’t found any clues. Let’s check out the restroom.”

Gua Gua was still scared. “Isn’t it too risky for just the two of us to go?”

“Don’t you trust me?” Water Cube’s expression was a bit impatient, but he suppressed his emotions and softened his tone. “With me here, nothing will happen.”

Sensing his bad mood, Gua Gua hesitated. “Alright…”

At that moment, Su Sheng, who was hiding in the restroom mirror waiting for someone, was exuding such a dense killing intent that it filled the entire mirror, turning it pitch black.

Su Sheng’s hand reached out from the mirror, fiddling with the faucet on the sink.

She pulled it out and put it back in.

Very impatient.

At this hour, Hua Hua must be hungry.

If Hua Hua couldn’t wait for her, she’d definitely be anxious.

Right now, Su Sheng wished she could rush out and kill the remaining two players, but the rules bound her.

The missing girl had been eaten by the mirror here, so Su Sheng couldn’t leave. She could only wait, waiting for the people from the new library to be lured into the old library.

Hearing footsteps, Su Sheng lifted her eyelids, finally perked up, and crawled out of the mirror.

She transformed into the appearance of that girl, stood by the sink, and carefully washed her hands under the running water.

After saying goodbye to Yi Shuang, Hua Suihe returned to the second-floor reading room, but Su Sheng still hadn’t come back to find her.

She pondered for a moment, then decisively went out to press the elevator button.

She would go to the fourth floor to look for Ye Susheng, call out a couple of times, and if no one answered, she’d come back to wait. Either way, it wouldn’t take much time.
