Marry the NPC with Money, Wife Comes Knocking - Chapter 71
Chapter 71
Hua Suihe cautiously extended her foot. Just as her heel was about to touch the water, Ye Susheng noticed her intention and, without a word, bent down to pick her up in a princess carry. The black mist considerately pulled Hua Hua’s skirt into place to prevent the wind from blowing it into disarray.
Terrified, Hua Suihe wrapped her arms around Ye Susheng’s neck, putting all her weight on her to keep from falling.
Hua Suihe urged in a low voice, “Put me down.”
The black mist coiled around the umbrella handle, freeing itself from Ye Susheng’s hand to hold the umbrella and provide shade for them.
Fearing she might be bewitched by the Corpse River again, Ye Susheng carried her back. “Don’t be naughty, Hua Hua. We’ll go play somewhere else.”
Hua Suihe was constantly worried about falling. After all, Ye Susheng was wearing stiletto heels. This was the first time she had been carried so far in a princess carry by Ye Susheng, and her heart was racing.
But Ye Susheng’s steps were steady, showing no signs of fatigue. If they hadn’t already reached the shore and Hua Suihe hadn’t insisted so much, Ye Susheng would have been happy to keep carrying Hua Hua forever.
Once back on solid ground, Hua Suihe quickly tidied her messy hair, while Ye Susheng helped smooth out her slightly wrinkled skirt.
“Do you still want to play in the water, Hua Hua? I’ll take you somewhere else; that water is clean.” There was a man-made hot spring she could take Hua Hua to enjoy.
The villagers sitting under the trees stared at them unabashedly. There was no malice, just pure gossip.
Hua Suihe took Ye Susheng’s hand and walked closer to them. “Hello, are you all from Xishi Village?”
This group wasn’t just old men and women; there were also young men and women, as well as boys and girls who looked younger than her. Hua Suihe found it hard to tell if there were any players among them.
As it turned out, they all answered in unison that they were villagers of Xishi Village.
So far, the only players Hua Suihe had encountered were Yi Shuang and Fang Ge. The village was only so big, with houses packed together, but the players didn’t seem to like going out. They were such shut-ins.
One woman was very enthusiastic. “You two ladies are from outside the mountains. We rarely get visitors in Xishi Village. If you have time, come over to my place. I’ll prepare some hearty dishes for you.”
Other villagers chimed in. “That’s right, that’s right! It’s been a long time since we’ve had a lively gathering. We’ll prepare some good food in a few days so everyone can get together!”
“You two are a couple, aren’t you? You look so good together.”
“Miss,” an older woman stepped forward, rubbing her hands together sheepishly. She spoke to Hua Suihe. “Miss, I must have scared you when I knocked on your door yesterday, right? It was all a misunderstanding, all a misunderstanding. Ye Susheng already settled it. You’ve paid the rent for this month, so you can stay for now. It was my fault; I apologize to you.”
Hua Suihe realized who she was and waved her hands dismissively. “It’s fine, it’s fine. I’m just glad it was a misunderstanding.”
Seeing how kind and generous Hua Suihe was, the woman immediately beamed. “Look at me, making such a mess of things. Once I get home, I’ll cook up something delicious and invite you both over for dinner.”
Hua Suihe remarked sincerely, “Ma’am, you certainly have a lot of properties.”
She had knocked on Hua Suihe’s door claiming it was hers, then did the same at the neighbor’s house. She was practically a local landlord.
An awkward smile flickered across the woman’s face. “Oh, well, it’s nothing, really.”
The two of them chatted back and forth, and Ye Susheng, standing beside Hua Suihe, was completely ignored.
This woman was quite thick-skinned; even as the black mist turned transparent and pressed against her forehead, she got so excited during the conversation that she almost reached out to grab Hua Suihe’s hand.
Fortunately, Hua Suihe turned to look at the silent Ye Susheng just in time. “Ye Zi? You said you’d take me to play in the water. Shall we head out?”
Ye Susheng’s face immediately brightened with a radiant smile. “Okay, okay~”
Hua Suihe waved goodbye to everyone before walking away hand-in-hand with Ye Susheng.
[Actually, the rural Anomalies are quite simple-hearted. Even in such a dangerous situation, they can show such a naive side.]
[It’s the first time I’ve seen an Anomaly so oblivious that they didn’t even notice the black mist poking them in the forehead. It’s strangely hilarious.]
[Ye Susheng is such a jealous little girl. She doesn’t even dare to kill in front of Hua Hua. She’s throwing threatening glares at the blind; the poor kid must be suffocating from holding it in.]
[Holy crap, crap, crap! That river!!]
By this time, Hua Suihe had already walked far away. She didn’t notice the bullet chat, focused entirely on chatting with Ye Susheng.
Behind them, the river water had stopped flowing. Densely packed corpses lay flat in the water, the surface just barely covering their bodies. The corpses were perfectly preserved, with names carved into their foreheads.
The villagers on the riverbank continued their unfinished conversation.
“Do you remember where your old man is lying?”
“With so many people, how would I dare identify him without going down to look? All I know is he’s on the left side of the bridge.”
“I can’t remember others, but I remember my own. He only just lay down recently.”
“It’s a pity for my old man; he didn’t live to see these good times. We can still come out of the river, but they only kept their skins. They can’t come back.”
“I believe the power of the Thriller will bring them back. We just need to wait, wait…”
*
Ye Susheng led Hua Suihe to a residence. This vacant courtyard wasn’t in the same alleyway; it was a detached property that covered a large area and featured ancient-style architecture.
It was a very noble-looking estate, completely out of place in the backward village.
Ye Susheng pulled Hua Suihe toward the open gate.
Hua Suihe’s steps were a bit hesitant. “Whose house is this?”
“No one lives here,” Ye Susheng said firmly, pulling her forward. “Don’t worry, Hua Hua. The Yu Sheng Troupe has the right to use it; it’s been rented out.”
Hearing Ye Susheng say this, Hua Suihe finally felt safe enough to follow her.
The courtyard was free of fallen leaves and dust, clearly well-maintained. Hua Suihe followed Ye Susheng as they wound their way to the backyard. Behind a rockery, there was a large, steaming hot spring pool with a screen nearby for hanging clothes.
“We’re here!”
At the first sight of the hot spring, Hua Suihe’s mind began to wander into impure territory. “Are you sure you brought me here just to play in the water?”
Now that she had brought her here, Ye Susheng was exceptionally candid. “I brought Hua Hua here for a bath~”
Ye Susheng explained, “The marks on Hua Hua’s body don’t look good. Those medicines aren’t very effective, but the hot spring is better than medicine. They’ll disappear after a soak.”
Hua Suihe crouched down and saw small fish swimming in the water. She immediately thought of the healing fish trope. In the real world, it might just be a concept without much magic, but this was a game world.
This meant that as long as there was a setting for it, it would work perfectly.
Hua Suihe was incredibly tempted.
If the marks disappeared, she wouldn’t have to wear a silk scarf to cover them up; she could wear sexy camisoles without any burden.
But…
They had just done it last night. If they did it again now, she might not be able to take it…
Hua Suihe looked up at Ye Susheng and, as expected, read the hint in her eyes.
“Hua Hua~” Ye Susheng crouched beside her. “Shall I help Hua Hua undress?”
The Carnal Version Susheng was impossible to satisfy.
