But on the day Li Yun transferred to our school, everything changed.

She looked down at me from above.

“You’re Gu Zhou’s childhood sweetheart?”

I nodded.

She looked at me with open mockery.

“Stop lying to yourself. He only likes you now because I haven’t shown up yet. I am his destined female lead.”

Out of kindness, I warned her, “Stay away from him. He isn’t someone you can afford to provoke.”

She gave a cold laugh.

“Of course you can’t handle a man like him. But I’m not like you.”

After she appeared, Gu Zhou quickly grew sick of me and fell for her instead.

And so, every day after school, I became the one kneeling on the ground.

Li Yun had someone stuff a toad into my mouth, then clapped and laughed happily as she watched the terror and pain on my face.

Gu Zhou stood beside her, considerately tucking the hair the wind had blown loose behind her ear.

“Is it fun?”

That was a gentleness I had never seen from him before.

She basked in his affection and shot me a smug, sidelong look.

As if she were showing off.

But I turned my back and couldn’t help laughing.

Chapter 8

She still didn’t know, did she?

The more Gu Zhou liked someone, the better he treated her, the more brutally he would torment her later.

But back then, once she successfully completed her conquest, she disappeared. She never got to see Gu Zhou’s true face.

At the time, Gu Zhou had practically gone mad.

Not for any other reason, but because he had laid out such heavy bait and yet never received the reward he had craved for so long.

And marrying me had been one of his moves from the very beginning.

A move to force Li Yun to come back.

Li Yun looked down on and despised me, this so-called childhood sweetheart, more than anyone.

How could she possibly tolerate me marrying Gu Zhou and replacing her as the female lead of this world?

Chapter 9

Before long, Gu Zhou brought Li Yun back to the Gu residence.

I wasn’t surprised at all, because I had previously overheard a conversation between Li Yun and the system.

“Host, you already received a reward of five million for completing your last conquest mission. Are you sure you want to accept another mission?”

“Of course. As long as I take everything Su Qingyu has, I can stay in this world, right? What’s so great about going back to the real world? Here, I’m the one and only female lead.”

“But if the mission fails, you will be erased.”

She laughed.

“For a mission this simple, failing should be harder than succeeding.”

Li Yun moved into the Gu Family’s home as if she owned the place.

Gu Zhou knelt before Father Gu and Gu’s Mother and said he wanted to marry her.

At first, Father Gu and Gu’s Mother refused firmly. Gu’s Mother cried as she objected.

“During that car accident back then, Qingyu’s mother pushed me away and traded her life for mine. And this girl has stayed by your side for five years. If you want to bring this woman into our family, don’t even think about it!”

But later, her tone gradually softened.
