For the next three days, I raised hell and tried every trick I knew to change Jiang Shechuan’s mind.

Naturally, none worked.

In a fit of rage, I declared a hunger strike.

When a servant knocked, I clamped a chocolate bar between my teeth and shouted, “I won’t eat! Tell Jiang Shechuan that if he insists on being stubborn, I’ll starve myself to death!”

Was Jiang Shechuan the sort of man who could be threatened so easily?

Ten minutes later, an Alpha tore the lock off my bedroom door by force.

In a reenactment of my childhood, Jiang Shechuan hauled me onto his lap and held a spoon to my mouth.

“Eat.”

I sealed my lips and shook my head desperately.

Lunatic. How old was I, and he was still holding me down to feed me?

“If you won’t eat,” he said, looking at me coolly, “would you prefer to be fed through a tube?”

That was absolutely a threat.

A tube that long could stab me to death.

Jiang Shechuan straightened my chin and brought the spoon back to my lips.

“Last chance. Refuse again, and I’ll have a feeding tube prepared.”

A wise person knew when to surrender. With tears in my eyes, I opened my mouth.

He dragged one meal out for more than half an hour. Trapped in his arms with nowhere to go, I could only open my mouth and swallow like an idiot.

What a vicious man. He was torturing me on purpose!

After placing the last grain of rice in my mouth, Jiang Shechuan finally set down the tray.

“Are you full?”

I refused to answer.

He acted incapable of reading my expression. “Will you try another hunger strike?”

Who had driven me to it?

My eyes reddened with rage. “Jiang Shechuan, are you even human? You bully your own little sister.”

He lifted a hand and brushed the skin at the corner of my eye.

“I’m not bullying you. This is for your own good.”

I hated that phrase more than anything.

“For my own good, for my own good—if that were true, why can’t you respect what I think? Is this really for me, or are you satisfying your need to control everything?”

My ingratitude didn’t anger him. Jiang Shechuan was always the calm, mature older brother.

“Because you aren’t mature enough. You act without considering the consequences and force yourself down unnecessary detours.”

“I know you want to remain at Military University, but Xie Jin, you have presented as a Beta. No matter how you avoid it, that fact is settled.”

“Even if I don’t withdraw you, you’ll only waste another two or three months. You may even injure yourself because your body can’t endure the training.”

After a pause, his tone softened.

“Xie Jin, I’m only worried about you.”

For one instant, Jiang Shechuan displayed a tenderness I had never seen.

That brief softness gave me an unrealistic spark of hope.

“Would it be all right as long as I’m not a Beta?” I asked quietly.

He seemed not to hear. “What did you say?”

I gritted my teeth and gambled everything.

“I already have a way to differentiate again. They say that immediately after the first differentiation, nourishing the scent gland with a top-tier Alpha’s pheromones can stimulate secondary differentiation.”

I poured out everything Cen Qi had told me, never noticing Jiang Shechuan’s face turn stormy.

Afraid he still wouldn’t relent, I added, “My gland has been nourished for a long time already… I can feel it changing. I’ll definitely undergo secondary differentiation before the end-of-term physical!”
