Chapter 3

Inside the classroom, after everyone had taken their seats, the homeroom teacher tapped on the blackboard.

“Five new transfer students have joined our class this semester. Let’s give them a welcome.”

After a scattering of sparse applause, the teacher continued, “There are three School Rules that must be followed.

“First, do not be late.

“Second, no puppy love.

“Third, do not cheat.”

The Players looked at each other in confusion.

These three School Rules were too normal-so normal they felt completely out of place in this horrific dungeon.

One new Player, who hadn’t been paying close attention, was struck in the forehead by a piece of chalk thrown by the teacher.

The light piece of chalk acted like a bullet, easily piercing through the Player’s hard skull.

Another Player, unable to answer a question, was tapped on the head by the teacher with a lesson plan.

That lesson plan seemed to weigh a thousand pounds. The Player’s head split in half like a ripe watermelon, and one could faintly see the brain matter flowing out.

With two deaths in quick succession, the Players’ nerves grew even more taut.

In this school, simply disobeying a teacher’s instruction meant immediate death.

So, what kind of terrifying punishment would one face for a more serious violation of the School Rules?

After the second period of the morning ended, the teacher packed up the lesson plan.

“Next is the opening ceremony. The Student Council President will deliver a speech for the honor students.

“Everyone, gather at the playground. Be careful not to be late.”

I followed closely behind the students as they walked out. Zhu Jiao stepped forward.

“Oh my, isn’t this our beautiful new Player?”

Even though I was being cautious enough, I still hadn’t expected this.

The difference between high-end Players and new Players, aside from having more experience, was that they possessed reward items from clearing previous dungeons.

[Item Name: Immobilization Technique]
[Item Grade: C-rank]
[Item Description: Renders the target unable to move. Effective duration: 15 minutes.]

My body felt as if it had frozen solid, pinned to the spot.

“Zhu Jiao, what are you doing?!”

Zhu Jiao ran a hand through her long, curly hair, a charming smile on her face.

“I’m curious to see what happens when someone breaks the School Rules.

“Why don’t you go first and try it out?”

Fifteen minutes later, the item’s effect wore off, and I immediately rushed toward the playground.

The opening ceremony had already begun.

The students were lined up in neat formations, facing the rostrum.

The moment I stepped onto the playground…

Everyone turned their heads in unison, staring straight at me, their faces veiled in shadow.

My body shuddered violently as a chill surged up my spine.

The homeroom teacher’s mouth curled into a grin, revealing bone-white teeth.

“Student, you are late.

“Violators of the School Rules must stand before the rostrum and deliver a self-reflection in front of the entire school’s faculty and students.”

As if bound by invisible threads, I was dragged onto the rostrum, unable to resist.

The pot-bellied principal placed a self-reflection script in my hand, his expression eerie and malicious.

“Read this self-reflection into the microphone, word for word.”

The principal turned to the other side of the rostrum, his tone unexpectedly carrying a hint of subservience.

“Is it alright if she does her self-reflection first before you give the honor student speech?”

I followed the principal’s gaze.

Standing on the other side of the rostrum was a tall, slender figure also wearing the school uniform.

His face was shrouded in shadow, making it impossible to see his features clearly.

He was very tall, with an exceptionally graceful build-broad shoulders and a straight back. Even the plain school uniform looked remarkably good on him.

My breath hitched as a figure from my memory clawed its way out of the earth.

His silhouette was identical to that of my childhood friend, Xie Qingye.

But Xie Qingye had died a long time ago.

How could he possibly be here?

The principal tapped the microphone and said impatiently, “What are you dazing off for?

“Read it, quickly!”

I had no other choice.

A powerful intuition told me that if I didn’t do as the principal said, I would certainly die.

I gripped the self-reflection script tightly and opened my mouth, my voice echoing across the vast playground.

“Hello everyone, I am Song Zhi from Class 1, Grade 12.”

As I saw the text beneath, my pupils suddenly contracted.

It read:

[I have violated the School Rules; my limbs shall become the school’s desks and chairs.

[I have violated the School Rules; my blood shall become the nourishment for my juniors.

[I have violated the School Rules; my flesh voluntarily becomes the raw ingredients for the cafeteria.]
