My Enemy Is Irresistible - Chapter 1

A beautiful new male attendant had arrived at the Dragon Palace.

In the Crystal Palace, he bowed gracefully before Mother.

“A-Xiao pays his respects, Your Majesty.”

Such elegant movements. Such a lovely voice.

By the time I arrived, curious sea folk had packed the Crystal Palace, inside and out.

“How can a man be so beautiful? Every feature is perfect.”

“He might even rival the Crown Princess.”

His loose robes exposed half a shoulder, pale and luminous as jade.

My sisters were staring too.

Dragons had always had a weakness for pretty faces.

My sixth younger sister, never one for self-restraint, was so excited her dragon tail nearly flipped into the sky.

“Mother, please give him to me!”

“Sixth Sister, you only took someone in last month! Surely it’s my turn!”

I lounged in my seat, watching them scramble for him.

Then, to my surprise, Mother turned to me.

“Wu, as I recall, you still have no one to attend you in your palace.

“Why don’t I assign him to you?”

I descended the jade steps and tipped up his chin with a finger.

The beauty glanced up, then gently nuzzled the back of my hand.

He really was exquisitely lovely. That little movement sent another stir through the crowd.

Had I not already awakened to the truth and learned how bloodthirsty and belligerent he was, I might have been fooled by that delicate flower of a face.

I turned and bowed to Mother on her throne.

“Then I shall gladly accept.”

I was supposed to be the lovesick supporting woman in a novel for male readers.

Before I met the hero, I was the proudest dragon crown princess in the Western Sea.

After I met him, I willingly played nice with the ten women in his harem.

When the villain, Xuan Ming, the merfolk God of War, used the world-ending calamity to attack him, I even threw myself in front of the blade. My soul was destroyed, and I became the lost love he could never forget.

Oh, spare me.

Ever since awakening, I had been utterly baffled by the woman I was in that plot.

Why stop being a perfectly good dragon just to make a doormat of myself?

At my acceptance, an eerie silence fell over the Crystal Palace and the crowd outside.

Even Mother, who had just made the offer, looked surprised.

In the original story, I followed the emotionless path of the sword. No beauty could stir me.

Then I met the hero, and all that restraint went straight out the window.

But I had no intention of saving myself for him now.

Merfolk were already famous for their beauty. In time, Xuan Ming’s looks would be renowned throughout the Three Realms.

He had infiltrated the dragons as a spy. Naturally, I would feel safer keeping him close.

I lowered my gaze and studied his face.

It was hard to connect this fragile beauty with the future God of War who would kill any god standing in his way.

I stroked his slender white neck with an intimate touch.

All the while, I was picturing him skinning me and tearing out my sinews one day.

The merfolk crown prince certainly lived up to his title. Even his skin was finer and softer than that of other races.

If I squeezed, would it bruise?

“This attendant is truly lovely.

“And I am old enough to learn something of the pleasures of the bedchamber.”

The beauty lowered his head, color blooming in both cheeks.

But I noticed his hands secretly tightening at his sides.

I had a maid take Xuan Ming back to my bedchamber to wash and change, then headed toward my palace under everyone’s envious gaze.

If the plot was unfolding on schedule, now that the merfolk crown prince had arrived undercover, the hero would soon appear too.

When I returned, I walked straight to the study, much to my maids’ surprise.

I had no time to think about bedroom pleasures.

I needed to investigate what had happened to the merfolk—the very thing that would eventually drive Xuan Ming to slaughter the dragons of the Western Sea.

But just as I was about to shut the door, a beauty in red silk squeezed through the gap and flung himself into my arms.

“Please, Your Highness. Be good to me.”

Fine, soft hair brushed my cheek.

His thin red silk outlined broad shoulders and a narrow waist.

Xuan Ming lifted both arms and looped them around my neck.

Warm breath fell against my skin.

“My name is A-Xiao. From now on, I belong to Your Highness.”

I rarely paid much attention to scents. When my sisters went on about warm, fragrant beauties soft as jade, I never understood the appeal.

Now, with that warm fragrance all around me, I finally understood the mortal saying:

Die beneath the peonies, and even as a ghost you’ll be a happy lover.

I steadied myself and pressed a finger to his forehead.

Slowly, firmly, I pushed him away.

“I accepted you because I could hardly refuse Mother’s kindness in front of everyone.

“If you want to leave, I will let you go.”

I tugged his fallen gauze back into place, covering every bit of his exposed shoulder.

Then, silently reciting a calming incantation, I turned to leave.

Someone caught my sleeve. Behind me, he gazed up, biting his lower lip.

“Did A-Xiao do something wrong? Have I angered Your Highness?”

For all my years on the emotionless path, that look still made my heart stumble.

Who would have thought the proud merfolk crown prince could take to seduction so naturally?

One moment of carelessness, and he had nearly caught me.

I bit the tip of my tongue hard. The pain cleared my head at once.

“I have things to do.

“I’ll leave you for tonight.”

I hurried out of the bedchamber and was just about to congratulate myself on a narrow escape when someone took my hand.

He bent before me and pressed a reverent kiss to its back.

Then he lifted his eyes, as though he meant to steal my very soul.

“Good night, Your Highness.”
